Sen. Rand Paul blasts Fauci as omicron cases are reported around US: He ’causes hysteria and creates fear’ – Fox News

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul sounded off on Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Biden administration for their response to the newly emerging omicron variant of COVID-19. On "America's Newsroom," Wednesday, Sen. Paul criticized Fauci for creating hysteria and fear, and noted that the scientist who discovered the variant called Biden's travel ban a "hysterical overreach."

OMICRON VARIANT SEEMS LESS SEVERE THAN EARLIER ONES, WHO OFFICIAL SAYS: LIVE UPDATES

SEN. RAND PAUL: Dr. Fauci routinely ignores the science and causes hysteria and creates fear. This is the opposite of what you really want as far as someone leading your public health effort. The Omicron variant, the doctor who discovered it, we should be proud of her. In South Africa, she dutifully reported it, discovered it was a new variant, and she wrote an op-ed yesterday as well. And in the op-ed, she said that so far, no one's been hospitalized in South Africa. So far, no one's died from this disease, and that it's a hysterical overreach to ban travel.

So you're banning travel, which will destroy economically tourism and travel and have great hardship for the world. But you're doing it for something that's not scientifically sound. It's not going to do anything to stop the spread of this variant. The variant's already out there. We also don't know yet: Will it be more deadly or less deadly? The initial reports, what we know so far is it looks like it will be less deadly. We'll know more in about two weeks, but that's when we would think we might want to make some decisions after we know the facts rather than before.

Sen. Paul hopeful omicron variant will produce less severe illness – WHOP

U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Bowling Green believes the omicron COVID-19 variant could come with a silver lining if it produces predominately less severe illness than the original and Delta variants.

Early reports from South Africa where the omicron variant was first discovered indicate it is much more contagious than previous variants while causing milder disease and Senator Paul says that would be good news.

While efforts continue to convince more Kentuckians and Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Senator Paul is pleased with how much of the most vulnerable populations have already taken the vaccine.

Meanwhile, as tension grow between Russia and the Ukraine and the western world worries of a possible invasion, Senator Paul says the U.S. and its allies could possibly alleviate those tensions by committing to not bring Ukraine or other Russian neighbors of interest into NATO.

Biden, Fauci assume the worst with omicron instead of making rational, scientific decisions – Fox News

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Thereisa saying among people in medical school that when you're learning about what to do in an emergency situation, before you take the pulse of the person you see laying still, take your own pulse.

The meaning of this saying was not to freak out, butto try to stay calm, and try to make rational decisions beforerushing to a potentially damaging reaction.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: FAUCI IS ACTING LIKE A 'MONARCH' WITH 'LEGISLATIVE, JUDICIAL AND EXECUTIVE POWER'

Apparently, Dr. Anthony Faucidoesnt rememberthissaying orlesson.

Once again, we find ourselves in a situationin which we have a new COVID variant.Ratherthan making rational, scientific decisions, Dr. Fauci and the Biden administration have jumped to assume theworst, andhave begunimplementing restrictions with the ever-looming threat of mandates.

We really dont know much about theomicron variant. It could have different mutations, different symptoms, and require different treatments. But rather than freaking out, we should take the next week or two to see what becomes ofit.

President Biden on the other hand, has alreadyfollowed suit with Dr. Fauci in foolishlyannouncingpublic health policy that is not based onany science.Mandating a COVID test within 24 hours of international travel, ignores the fact that rapid tests for patients without symptoms give false readings about half the time.

BIDEN JOKES THAT FAUCI IS PRESIDENT, SAYS HE SEES FAUCI MORE THAN FIRST LADY

Meanwhile, medical officials in South Africa, where the variant originated, have been shocked at theknee-jerkreaction from countries across the worldin imposing travel restrictionsand renewingmandates.

EvenDr. Angelique Coetzee, who discovered the new variant, has said countries, including the United States, are "panicking unnecessarily." Dr. Coetzeehasalso said,"the simple truthis:we dont know yet anywhere near enough aboutomicron to make such judgments or to impose such policies."

This is a prime example of big governmentthinking it must do something out of gut reaction, but in all likelihood, government will do the wrong thing. The ink on the travel ban has barely dried and reports are already coming in that theomicron variant is less deadly. In addition, the variant is nowin nearly40 countries, so a travel ban will have little effect.

We needtopause, learn more about theomicronvariant, and in the meantimenot imposetravel restrictions that will tank theU.S. andworld economies, ensue chaos, and frankly do nothing to change the course of this new variant.

FLORIDA REPORTS LOWEST DAILY CORONAVIRUS CASES PER CAPITA IN NATION

Not to mention the fact that while we implement travel restrictions onU.S. citizens and other countries, our southern border remains wide openwith very little being done totest migrants who are being released by the thousands into our country. Apparently, President Bidens newCOVID-19 "strategy"only applies to law-abiding citizens, and not illegal aliens.

The default solution for big government types like President Biden and Dr. Fauci is always more rules, more regulation and less of your liberty.

Our responseshouldnt be a blanket decision for the whole world, on locking the economy down, locking the country up, and banning travel before we knowfor surewhether this is a more or less deadly variant.

Instead, ifthe governmentwants to do something productive for once, itcouldget out of the way of vaccine and drug development, and allow for new vaccines and drugs to come to marketquicker.

President Trump did it, and because of Operation Warp Speed, drug companies and researchers were able to develop the first COVID-19 vaccine in record time, saving countless lives.

For months, Ive urgedthe Biden administration to do the same thing, cut regulations and red tape toallowfor thequickdevelopment ofanew COVID vaccinethat respondsbetterto variants. While some companies are currently in trials, at no point has the Biden administration includingPresident Biden and Dr. Faucimade efforts to speed up the processof getting a new vaccineor treatmentsto market.

If anyone in that administration had anycompetenceat all they would be taking steps to adapt the COVID vaccine like they adapt the flu vaccine each year, and let Americans make their own individual decision on whether or not to be vaccinated.

Instead, theywill continue topreach about booster shots, yell about masks, threatenyou, theAmericanpeoplewith vaccine mandates, and blame all of their problems and failures on the never-ending pandemic.

It is by far time we fire Dr. Fauci, and for the Biden administration to come up with a reasonable, rational plan that follows actual science and acknowledges Americans individual rights and liberties.

Theres another COVID-related virus out there. This time, doctors are at risk – York Dispatch

The Miami Herald(TNS)| York Dispatch

Physicians answer questions on COVID-19 vaccine

Pennsylvania Department of Health Acting Physician General Dr. Denise Johnson and Dr. Paul Offit, the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia director of the Vaccine Education Center and professor of pediatrics, answer questions about vaccine safety.

York Dispatch

Theres another worrisome, COVID-related health care scare infecting politically connected doctors who have a bullhorn and a bully pulpit.

Unlike the coronavirus that emanated from China, or omicron, just discovered in South Africa, this virus comes from the land of MAGA.

Here comes the MEV the Midterm Election Variant! They NEED a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots Democrats will do anything to CHEAT during an election but were not going to let them!

ThatsTexas Republican U.S. Rep. Ronny Jacksonon Twitter, claiming that omicron is just a Democratic hoax in that partys quest to win elections at all costs even subverting democracy. (Hmm, where would they get an idea like that?)

More: First confirmed omicron case reported in Pennsylvania

More: 'Get my shot': Vaccine clinics see increasing demand amid omicron fears

More: Conditions inside York County Prison likely contributed to COVID outbreak, inmate says

More: WellSpan delays nonemergency procedures amid spiking COVID-19 cases

But Rep. Ronny Jackson is alsoDr.Ronny Jackson, former White House physician under President Trump and and! President Obama. He joins several high-profile, medically trained, supposedly science-hugging professionals who are out of their minds or just politically shrewd, and perverse.

Really?:Its an outlandish claim that makes Jacksons previous assertions, calling mask-wearing a personal choice and saying that he doesnt wear a mask all that often seem almost quaint.

But theyre not. They are part of a calculated ploy to keep the reins of power in Trump backers hands, no matter the cost, even one as high as 777,000 Americans dead.

Jackson joins the likes of Sen. Rand Paul also Dr. Rand Paul who has little use for infectious-disease expert Dr. Anthony Faucis credible medical guidance. In November 2020, Paul, R-Kentucky, urged Americans who had recovered from COVID-19 tothrow away their masks, go to restaurants, live again.

He claimed that they had become immune. Public-health experts said otherwise. But what can one expect from a politically blinded, self-certified ophthalmologist?

Horse medicine:Of course, Floridas Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo has endorsed hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 discredited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration preaches herd immunity as our way out of the pandemic and has pushed ivermectin, an anti-parasitic drug as a COVID-19 treatment.

Of course, the medication is not approved for such use. But many people took it anyway, including the version used for livestock, leading to a surge in poison-control-centers calls in the state.

Ladapo abhors mask mandates and refused to wear one while in the office of a state senator whos also a cancer patient. With bona fides like this, hes a cinch to be confirmed by the Floridas Republican-led Legislature. Plus, its Gov. Ron DeSantis will.

Were just not sure how this latest scourge can be contained, but voting for the science nerds next time could be the cure.

Saving Afghanistan Despite the Taliban by Masood Ahmed – Project Syndicate

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, the US and its allies have watched and waited to see how the group would govern before deciding whether to recognize their leadership and lift financial sanctions. But as critical programs run out of funding and the threat of mass starvation looms, this approach is no longer tenable.

WASHINGTON, DC The Afghan economy is in free fall. Public-sector employees teachers, health-care workers, bureaucrats, police are not being paid, the currency has lost a fifth of its value, and shortages of food, medicines, and everyday products are growing. Even when these items are available, many households cannot afford to buy them.

It was inevitable that the countrys takeover by the Taliban and the withdrawal of American and allied forces would leave most Afghans economically worse off and personally less free. Still, few anticipated the speed and scale of the humanitarian catastrophe now taking shape.

While the international community decides how to calibrate its response or if it should respond at all life in Afghanistan is becoming more difficult. Aid flows, which financed 75% of the countrys national budget before the Taliban seized power, have mostly dried up. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have halted their substantial funding. Afghanistans $7 billion of reserves in the United States have been frozen by President Joe Bidens administration. And fear of violating sanctions has stopped banks and businesses from engaging even in permitted activities.

In addition, education and health programs risk closure not because of decisions by the new government, but because they have no money. This, too reflects the international communitys indecision about how best to approach Afghanistan under the Taliban.

On one side, there are calls to respond urgently to the humanitarian crisis and continue to work to preserve the gains of the past two decades in human development, especially for women and girls. For this to happen, aid and trade need to keep flowing, and the international community must engage with the countrys new leaders. A small subset of this group would go further, arguing that the international community must accept the reality of the new government and work with it more broadly, just as it does with many other governments that represent objectionable policies and behavior.

On the other side are those who start from the premise that Afghanistan is now ruled by a party that has taken power by force. Moreover, the Talibans values and policies are fundamentally at odds with what the international community has promoted for the last two decades, and its early actions hold little promise of a smooth future relationship. For this camp, any action that helps bolster the popularity or effectiveness of the Talibans government, even as a collateral effect, crosses a red line.

Those who are reluctant to provide aid want to be sure that any funds given to Afghanistan are not diverted to general expenditures that strengthen the new government. They also want to ensure that easing access to funding is matched by positive actions from the Afghan leadership. These are valid points, but they will not convince the 23 million Afghans at risk of starvation as the harsh winter approaches.

As images of widespread hunger force Afghanistan back into the global spotlight, the calls to increase financial support will be hard to resist. Those calls will be stronger if even a small fraction of desperate Afghans vote with their feet and trigger a new, massive refugee crisis. For some perspective, consider that nearly a third of Syrias pre-civil war population of 20 million became refugees, with an additional third internally displaced. Afghanistans population is close to 40 million.

The consequences of an imploding Afghanistan, with or without Taliban leadership, will not be contained within the countrys insecure and porous borders. At a minimum, Afghanistans neighbors will feel the effects of its economic, security, and humanitarian crises and they are not well positioned to manage these challenges.

Careful, considered work to loosen financial restrictions needs to start now, taking into account some consequential trade-offs. Two actions could provide near-term, targeted relief.

First, the US Treasury needs to clarify the scope and operation of financial sanctions for humanitarian and development work and to broaden the range of permitted activities. The Treasury should apply to Afghanistan the lessons from its own review of sanctions programs, which calls for greater precision and better targeting to avoid unintended consequences for civilian populations.

Second, the international community should allow a limited, monitored release of Afghanistans frozen reserves to pay for essential imports of food, fuel, and medicine. Access could start small and be audited independently, with an option to terminate in the event of misuse.

Both of these proposals can be implemented relatively quickly, and both have recent precedents specifically, in relations with Venezuela and Yemen.

When faced with difficult choices, there is a natural tendency to delay. These targeted measures will, of course, attract criticism from both those who think they fall short and those who believe they go too far. But opting for a middle path now is unambiguously better than delaying a decision in the hope that a more attractive option will emerge.
