Iran Between Two Revolutions published in Persian – Tehran Times

TEHRAN Iran Between Two Revolutions by Ervand Abrahamian, an Iranian-American historian of the West Asia, has been published by the Ney publishing house in Tehran.

Originally published in 1982, the book has been rendered into Persian by Ahmad Golmohammadi and Mohammad-Ebrahim Fattahi.

Emphasizing the interaction between political organizations and social forces, Abrahamian discusses Iranian society and politics during the period between the Constitutional Revolution of 1905-1909 and the Islamic Revolution of 1977-1979.

Presented here is a study of the emergence of horizontal divisions, or socio-economic classes, in a country with strong vertical divisions based on ethnicity, religious ideology and regional particularism.

Abrahamian, who is widely regarded as one of the leading historians of modern Iran, focuses on the class and ethnic roots of the major radical movements in the modern era, particularly the Constitutional Movement of the 1900s, the communist Tudeh party of the 1940s, the nationalist struggle of the early 1950s, and the Islamic upsurgence of the 1970s.

In this examination of the social bases of Iranian politics, Abrahamian draws on archives of the British Foreign Office and India Office that have only recently been opened; newspaper, memoirs, and biographies published in Tehran between 1906 and 1980; proceedings of the Iranian Majles and Senate; interviews with retired and active politicians; and pamphlets, books and periodicals distributed by exiled groups in Europe and North America in the period between 1953 and 1980.

Abrahamian explores the impact of socio-economic change on the political structure, especially under the reigns of Reza Shah and Mohammad Reza Shah, and throws fresh light on the significance of the Tudeh party and the failures of the Shahs regime from 1953 to 1978.

Abrahamian is a distinguished professor of history at Baruch College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Iran to give crushing response to unauthorized aerial objects entering national airspace: Commander – Press TV

A senior Iranian military commander says the Islamic Republics Armed Forces will not allow any aerial objects to enter the countrys airspace without authorization, warning of a crushing response to such an intrusion.

Brigadier Ali Asadi, commander of Irans Western Air Defense Zone, made the remark in a ceremony held in the western province of Hamedan on Friday to commemorate the 43rdanniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the former US-backed Pahlavi regime in 1979.

Highlighting the role of the military division under his command over the years, Asadi said, The [Iranian] air defense will not allow any unauthorized aerial vehicleto enter the country's skies and will give a crushing response with great aplomb.

The senior Iranian commander also pointed that,The most important and fundamental factor in the victory of the Islamic Revolution was the uprising of the people who had faith in the thoughts of the founder of the Revolutionwho had no apprehensions other than the dignity of Iran and the Iranian nation and not being dependent on foreigners.

The high standing of Iran, especially the countrys Armed Forces, has been established with the support of the Iranian people and the commitment and patriotism of its youths.

The Iranian nation toppled the despotic regime of Pahlavi, which was fully supported by the United States, in the winter of 1979 after the shah regime was forced to allow the late founder of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to return from exile.

On the 43rd anniversary of the auspicious occasion, Irans Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) unveiled on Wednesday a new ballistic missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers (900 miles).

Theprecisionstrike ballisticmissile, dubbed Khaybar Shekan,is capable of striking its designated targets with pinpoint accuracy.

A Pentagon study has recently acknowledgedIrans missile power, saying its arsenal is larger than that of any other country in West Asia.

"Iran has an extensive missile development program, and the size and sophistication of its missile force continue to grow despite decades of counter-proliferation efforts aimed at curbing its advancement," it said.

Despite decades of sanctions imposed by Washington, Iran has madesignificant achievements in its ballistic missiles program.

Last month, an American political analyst said Irans missile program has disrupted the strategic military calculations of the United States in West Asia, altering the balance of power in a region where Washington has long sought to maintain a military edge.

The USfears Iran is upsetting the hitherto American-enforced regional balance of power whereby Washington and its allies were supposed to have a decisive military advantage over the Islamic Republic, Andrew Korybko, a Moscow-based American political commentator, told Press TV.

Irans missile program, he said, has increased the cost of a potential military confrontation for the United States. It has caused Americans to second-guess their policies and resort to unconventional means to destabilize Iran, including through proxy warfare against its regional partners, Korybko said.

Workshop on UNESCO-tagged forest held in northern Iran – Tehran Times

TEHRAN-A workshop has recently been held to introduce local communities and tourists to Irans UNESCO-registered Hyrcanian forests (also known as Caspian forests).

The event was held in Rudkhan Castle, a centuries-old military medieval fortress in Fuman, northern Gilan province on Thursday, the provincial tourism chief announced, CHTN reported on Friday.

The workshop was intended to increase awareness of the unique characteristics of Hyrcanian forests, the official added.

Spanning from the south of Azerbaijan to about 850 km eastward to the provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan, the Hyrcanian forests are witnesses of the ancient forests of the world since they have survived between 35 and 50 million years.

According to UNESCO, these forests are between 25 and 50 million years old. Their surface area was reduced during the Quaternary Period's dramatic climate changes and glaciations and expanded again when the temperatures stabilized.

UNESCO has documented the existence of over 3,200 vascular plants and 58 species of mammals, including the iconic Persian panther and endangered wild goat in the forest.

Due to its isolation, the areas now protected by UNESCO are home to many endangered and endemic plant species at a regional and local level.

In July 2019, the UN cultural body designated the vast woodland as a World Heritage site, making it the second such Iranian natural site after Lut Desert, which was granted the tag in 2016.

According to UNESCO, the forest contains the most significant natural habitats for in-situ conservation of biological diversity, including those containing threatened species of outstanding universal value from the point of view of science or conservation. It also contains superlative natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance.

Having an opulent tourist circuit with 26 UNESCO World Heritage sites Iran seeks to acquire a greater share of the global tourism industry by 2025.

Verizon Recasts Jim Carrey as ‘The Cable Guy’ for Super Bowl Fixed Wireless Ad – Next TV

Verizon is turning to a middling mid-1990s Jim Carrey comedy movie to spark sales of its hot news fixed wireless product, commissioning the actor to reanimate "Cable Guy" for a Super Bowl ad.

The 15-second spot, showcased at the 9:16 mark of the Verizon video below showcasing the wireless company's numerous Super Bowl-related marketing activities this coming Sunday, reveals a leery woman approaching her front door after a knock from a man who identifies himself simply as, "cable guy!"

"Your internet will never be the same," said Diego Scotti, executive VP and chief marketing officer at Verizon, introducing the spot on LinkedIn Monday.

Verizon reported an impressive 78,000 new signups or its new fixed wireless access (FWA) service in Q4, upping the customer base for the fledgling service to 228,000.

Verizon and T-Mobile are aggressively marketing FWA products in an effort to pull back some of cable's high-speed internet market share in the U.S., which currently stands at around 70%.

Verizon said it spent $80 million upgrading its network in and around Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., cite of last year's Super Bowl. It's unclear how much the wireless giant will spend in and around SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday. Prices for a 30-second spot on NBC are reportedly going for $6 million, up 9% over the 2021 game.

As for The Cable Guy, it was directed by Ben Stiller and starred Matthew Broderick as a heart-broken young man whose problems are further compounded when he gets a tech visit from his cable company. The movie scored an aggregated 53% among critics and grossed just over $100 million at the global box office.
