Make tomorrow today: Take your workforce into the future – HR News

Posted on Sep 20, 2022

The futures digital, and thanks to the pandemic, that futures here sooner than many expected, leaving several industries struggling to catch up.

But when hiring costs can range from 50% of an employees salary for entry-level roles to as much as 150% for skilled workers and managers, investing in training existing workforces could pay dividends. Accredited online learning from world-class training provider, ILX, could help ease your workforces journey into the new dawn of digital.

The impact of Covid-19 on industry

Covid-19 accelerated digital transformation, leaving customers and service end-users few options but digital engagement, and forcing businesses to adapt to survive. The pandemic impacted almost every facet of the working world, including:

And now, as the world gets back on its feet, organisations are facing staff shortages, supply chain disruption, inflation, and uncertainty.

But, with challenges come opportunities. And by training your workforce to adapt to the new world of industry, your business can face the future with confidence.

The most in-demand skills in 2022

Dealing with the after-effects of the pandemic has forced many businesses to reprioritise the skills they look for in their workforce. The skills rated most highly by organisations are:

Given the unprecedented matrix of challenges businesses face, the demand for management and leadership should come as no surprise. Dealing with these crises requires having the right vision, setting effective strategies, making the right decisions, setting the right examples, and communicating the right messages at the right time.

Learning and Development is key to post-pandemic success

New ways of working and the adoption of remote-hybrid employment have been key drivers in an increased demand for learning and development.

With staff shortages affecting every industry, training is seen as a key differentiator (80%) in attracting top talent. And with the shift into hybrid and remote work models, and the increased uptake of AI technology, organisations are investing in training their IT and product development functions, as a priority.

Organisations must keep up with the pace of AI adoption

The capabilities of AI are already stretching beyond what many could have predicted. But taking advantage of the efficiencies and benefits it can offer is dependent on organisations and their workforces keeping up with the speed of advancement.

The reality is that artificial intelligence (AI) is at work already it impacts how we search, how we shop and even how we meet people. Here at ILX, we believe that demystifying AI is key. People have always feared what they dont understand, and this revolution is no different.

Timing will be a factor, but in all cases, making AI accessible is key to getting the workforce of the future engaged. Russell Kenrick, Managing Director of ILX Group,

AI to make some low-skilled roles redundant

Managing Director of ILX Group, Russell Kenrick, explains how re-skilling professionals can help combat the AI skills gap, and allow room for lower-skill workers to upskill.

The upskilling (or reskilling) debate is about the roles that are leaving vs the roles that are needed for the future. The real elephant in the room, is the roles that are going (due to AI today) are largely lower-skill roles. Unfair I know, but were seeing AI replace shop workers, waiters, receptionists and office admin and its a long journey for some of those workers to fill the skill gaps like data scientists, digital marketing experts and IT professionals. But its possible.

Where it gets even scarier, is when we see more AI and automation within what we call professional roles, such as sales, customer services, and business support roles like HR, learning, finance, legal, IT Service desks, etc. Its the reskilling of these people that will drive growth in AI roles because the workflow is more complex.

He gives advice on which AI to opt for:

When implementing AI, we recommend the use of Agile methods to get the best results it requires rapid feedback loops and lots of experimentation.

Data science skills will help your workforce better understand its customers

The shift to online buying isnt just a challenge for organisations, its also a massive opportunity to gather data and use it to analyse and understand your customers like never before. Organisations that analyse data to better understand customer behaviour outperform their peers by 85%.

However, a national shortage of technical IT staff means that training is essential.

Digital MarketingKeeping your business competitive in a shifting global landscape requires acknowledging where skillsets need an update.

Managing Director of the ILX Group, Russell Kenrick, explains what it takes to create high-performing sales and marketing teams:

Sales and marketing are in transition, driven by technological advances and accelerated by the global pandemic. The traditional skills associated with sales and marketing no longer guarantee success. To be successful today, professionals in these functions need to marry traditional content and communication skills with data analytics, data-driven decision making, digital marketing skills, such as SEO, PPC, CRM and social, and perhaps most importantly Agile project management. This last one is often overlooked, but more often than not, it is the difference between high-performance sales and marketing teams and the rest.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

MANCHESTER, N.H. Former Vice President Mike Pence will return next month to New Hampshire, sparking further speculation about the likelihood that Pence is gearing up for a White House run in 2024.

Penceon Aug. 17 will headline the New Hampshire Institute of Politics "Politics and Eggs." For two decades the St. Anselm College speaking series has been a must stop for presidential candidates and potential White House contenders visiting the first-in-the-nation presidential primary state.

"Theres a tremendous amount of interest in hearing from the former vice president. Im asked all the time, When are you having Vice President Pence to the institute?" New Hampshire Institute of Politics executive director Neil Leveque told Fox News.

Pence will also make other stops while in New Hampshire, including an event with GOP state lawmakers in the North Country.

The visit will be Pences second to the Granite State this year, following a late May stop where the former vice president headlined the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Womens annual Lilac Luncheon and took part in a roundtable discussion with law enforcement members that was held at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. Pence also traveled to New Hampshire twice last year with visits in June and December.

The former vice presidents also made multiple stops the past year and a half in Iowa whose caucuses lead off the presidential nominating calendar and South Carolina which votes third in the GOP calendar and one in Nevada, which votes fourth in the Republican schedule.

When asked about a White House bid, Pence answers with his often-used line that after Novembers midterm elections are over, "well do as our family has always done. Well reflect and pray and consider where we might next serve."

2024 PRELUDE: PENCES' MOVES PREPARE FORMER VICE PRESIDENT FOR LIKELY 2024 RUN

If Pence does run in 2024, he may face off in a GOP field that also includes his onetime boss, former President Donald Trump, who for a year and a half has repeatedly teased making another presidential bid. The former president seemed to indicate in an interview published Thursday by New York Magazine that his 2024 decision is about when not if.

"I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after," Trump said in an interview published Thursday, seemingly referring to the midterm elections.

The comments, which grabbed plenty of attention, seemed to confirm previous reporting from a handful of news organizations, including Fox News, that the former president and his top political aides have been mulling the timing of when Trump should announce a 2024 bid. And Fox News confirmed a recent report from Politico that Trumps been discussing his 2024 plans with top donors at small dinners in recent months.

Regarding a Pence visit, longtime New Hampshire based Republican consultant Jim Merrill told Fox News that "this is the year that likely candidates want to lay the groundwork to build the foundation in the early primary and caucus states and Mike Pence has been a leader among the potential candidates in doing just that."

Merrill, a veteran of numerous GOP presidential campaigns, argued that "Pence is very clearly preparing a run for president. Hes doing so methodically and spending time in the right places to lay the groundwork what I think will be a well-received campaign for president."

Republican National Committee member from New Hampshire Chris Ager praised Pence as someone whos "been extremely helpful in fundraising for our local candidates and it's much appreciated."

And Ager said the former vice presidents visit "maintains our high level of relevance on the national scene and it's great for the candidates because they get to interact with smaller groups of people and get a real pulse of whats on the mind of average voters."

Liz Cheney says Mike Pence was ‘essentially the president’ on Jan. 6 – Business Insider

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney delivered a searing indictment of former President Donald Trump and members of the Republican Party on Monday in one of her first speeches since her primary defeat last month.

Cheney this week gave the Walter Berns Constitution Day lecture at AEI, a center-right economic think tank in Washington DC, warning that America's freedom is in a perilous position and urging the country to hold Trump accountable for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot.

Cheney, as the top Republican on the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection, has long been one of the few outspoken GOP critics of Trump a stance that ultimately cost her her congressional seat after Trump spent months propping up her Republican challenger.

But Cheney on Monday did not dwell on her political woes, opting instead to further rebuke Trump's actions, or lack thereof, on January 6, 2021.

"I hope you all heard the testimony in our select committee hearings of Pat Cipollone, corroborated by Cassidy Hutchinson and others on President Trump's White House staff," she said. "Testimony that President Trump was the only person who refused to respond to desperate calls for help, even from his own congressional allies. He refused to come to their aid."

Several witnesses, including Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the committee that they were puzzled by Trump's inaction as rioters stormed the US capitol on January 6.

In her speech on Monday, Cheney suggested that Trump's second-in-command, Mike Pence, stepped into his superior's role.

"If you watched our hearings closely, you understand that Vice President Mike Pence was essentially the president for most of that day," she said. "White House staff knew it, and so did every other Republican and Democratic leader in Washington."

After Trump assailed Pence on Twitter for refusing to reject Electoral College votes for President Joe Biden, rioters throughout the Capitol began chanting "hang Mike Pence." Hutchinson testified earlier this summer that Trump defended the insurrectionists' call for violence, saying that "Mike deserves it."

In his recent autobiography, "So Help Me God," Pence wrote that he was not afraid, during the events of January 6, but angry.

"I was angry at what I saw, how it desecrated the seat of our democracy and dishonored the patriotism of millions of our supporters, who would never do such a thing here or anywhere else," Pence wrote.

According to "The Divider," a new book by Peter Baker of The New York Times and Susan Glasser of The New Yorker, Trump has said he would not pick Pence to be his running mate if he launches a 2024 campaign.

"It would be totally inappropriate" to pick Pence as his running mate, Trump said, according to the book."Mike committed political suicide," the former told Glasser and Baker.

In her speech, Cheney also urged people to rewatch testimony from the committee's summer hearings and listen to what several of Trump's former officials said about the then-president's post-2020 actions while under oath.

"How could Trump's refusal to act, his betrayal or our Republic, of our Constitution, of our principles, come with no cost?" she said.

Mike Pence addresses the ‘freedom generation’ during Convocation Liberty News – Liberty University

Pence met with students on the floor of the Vines Center after Convocation.

In visiting the campus of Liberty University for the third time, 48th Vice President of the United States Mike Pence brought students at Wednesdays Convocation a timely reminder of Christians role in the world today: to be faith-focused leaders and outspoken Christ followers.

Pence has continually spurred Liberty students to remain steadfast in their faith while staying informed on the countrys current events and its future. He last visited campus to deliver the 46th Commencement address in 2019 and spoke in 2016 Convocation as then-Indiana governor and Republican vice presidential candidate.

Campus Pastor Jonathan Falwell set the tone for the morning by reminding students that a key goal of Convocation is to remind them of how their faith ought to influence their lives and careers following their time at Liberty.

Part of our Convocation purpose, what we do here, is to make sure that all of us understand that regardless of what we do in life, (our) faith is not something that we place on a shelf; it is something that you take with you wherever you might go, Falwell said. Today our guest is one who has been a model of that in his career.

After an introduction by Helms School of Government Dean Robert Hurt, Pence took the stage and established himself as a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican in that order. He shared his personal faith testimony, which began with a childhood and adolescent time in which he proclaimed to be a Christian but did not carry through with it in his daily life. That all changed when he began his college years, when he met young men who lived out their faith differently, and he was soon convicted by his passive, phony faith. Pence devoted his life and asked Christ to be his Lord and Savior at a Christian concert not long after.

I stood up and walked down (to the front), not out of a sense of intellectual agreement or persuasion, but more because my heart was broken with gratitude for what had been done for me on the cross and my life has never been the same, Pence said.

Citing his faith as being at the forefront through it all, Pence outlined his ascension in the political sphere that led to his four-year term as Vice President of the United States, and he celebrated the victories that the Trump administration saw in economics, taxes, immigration, military affairs, and in the appointments of 300 conservative judges to the courts, including three Supreme Court justices. It was due to those appointments that Pence was proud to commemorate the June 24 overturning of Roe v. Wade in a victory for the pro-life movement.

But the work to protect life at its start is not done, Pence emphasized.

Let me say to each and every one of you from my heart: in this historic moment, I urge you in this rising generation to continue to be champions for life, he said. We must not rest and we must not relent until we restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law in every state of the nation.

Pence said he came to Liberty University with a call to action for this generation. With many on the other side of the aisle pushing for Christian values to disappear from America, Pence encouraged students to defend their beliefs in a potential last stand.

Today I come to tell you to prepare your minds for action, he said. As the Bible says, To whom much is given, much will be required. Take time in these years of study to understand what made this country special and unique. You must be the freedom generation, because the truth is your generation may be the last line of defense for the Constitution of the United States.

I urge you to let the Constitution be your guide; understand it, study it, and learn it as Americans, because you may well in your life be called on in unique ways to defend it, he added.

It is not easy to be a Christian in America today, Pence explained, and he implored Liberty students to not back down.

We must, as the Bible says in Psalm 15, be prepared to keep our oath even when it hurts, he said. I want to challenge you here at this Liberty University Convocation: renew your commitment to become men and women of integrity. The nation (needs) you, maybe as never before. When the hard times come, when your convictions are tested, you will be in that moment the man or woman you have been preparing to be on every quiet day before.

He emphasized the importance of chasing life pursuits with faith at the center.

I say to this rising generation, particularly those who aspire to leadership in public or private life: use this time in your life to develop the qualities of the inner man and inner woman that will make you into the leaders that America needs, Pence said. Stand strong, grow in your understanding of your faith, take that quiet time every day to read what (God) has to say, and share your heart. Our nation and our world need your example of grace and truth more than ever before.

In the times of trouble, when their faith is being tested or outright criticized in America today, Christians need to remember that the Lord is with them. Pence referenced the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as he reminded students that there is another in the fire.

Remember that the foundation of America is freedom, but the foundation of freedom is faith, he said in closing. As you strengthen the foundation of faith in your life, you will strengthen the foundations of this last best hope of earth. Go with confidence, always remembering that where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Students said Pences message left them with hope and said his genuine passion for them shone through.

He did a great job explaining his perspective, worldview, and hope for the future in us as young leaders of faith to go out into the world and champion our values, said Jesse Hughes, a junior studying pre-law and history. It was very relatable, and the message and ideas that he was expounding were timeless in their relevance.

His character, virtue, kindness, and convictions really struck the heart of the Liberty student body, which is to be Champions for Christ and stand for truth in the public arena, said junior government student Daniel Hostetter, Libertys student body president. Pence displayed such a kindness and virtue today that shows his heart is to build the kingdom of God above all else. As someone who wants to go into public service, this was a great lesson to put Christ first above everything.

Following his time on the Convocation stage, Pence spoke with students from the Helms School of Government and School of Law in a special Q&A session.
