Compare parties if you think Democrats have a problem | HeraldNet.com – The Daily Herald

Always amazed at the delusional nature of the conservative mind. Case in point a recent letter critical of Democrats in Washington state and the nation.

To call our president, governor and state senators RINOs (Republican in name only) indicates the lack of critical thinking.

The Democratic Party give us many beneficial legislative programs; womens right to vote, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Securities and Exchange Act, Rural Electrification Act, Peace Corps, unemployment benefits, Fair Labor Act, GI Bill, Federal Home Loan Program, eight-hour work day, national school lunch, Voting Rights Act, Head Start, Civil Rights Act, student loans, Family and Medical Leave Act to name a few.

Red States, those controlled by Republicans, have higher rates of; spousal abuse, obesity, smoking, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, bankruptcies, homicide/murders, infant mortality, maternal mortality, forcible rape, robbery-aggravated assault, school dropouts, divorce, contaminated air/water, opiate addiction, unskilled workers, parasitic infections, income-wealth inequality, covid deaths, unvaccinated people, federal subsidies, people on welfare, child poverty, homelessness, spousal murder, unemployment, death from auto accidents, people living on disability.

This can be varied with a google search. The above red state items can be checked in an article in The Hartmann Report: When Will Americans Again Believe in America?

When you add the Big Lie, attempt at an insurrection, voter suppression, threats of violence against citizens for not agreeing to their political ideology why would you vote for a Republican?

Granted there are issues with both parties, but the current cult of Trump and the Republican Party has gone off the rails. Current policy of Republicans is blocking any legislation the democratic party is trying to pass even if it helps its own constituents.

Former top Obama aide accuses Biden of ‘gaslighting’ Cuba: ‘Disappointed doesn’t begin to scratch the surface’ – Yahoo News

The former Obama White House official who negotiated the reopening of relations with Cuba is sharply criticizing President Bidens policies toward that country, saying his administration is gaslighting Havana by maintaining and even expanding harsh sanctions imposed by former President Trump.

Disappointed doesnt begin to scratch the surface of how I feel about the Biden-Cuba policy, said Ben Rhodes, who served as Obamas deputy national security adviser, in an interview for the Yahoo News Conspiracyland podcast. The Cuban government made an agreement with me based on the idea that they could trust that we would keep our agreement.

Granted it was Trump who initially reversed Obamas policy of normalizing relations with Cuba, he added. But then Biden doubles down on Trump policies, Rhodes said.

Why would any Cuban official ever, ever negotiate anything with America ever again after this? We had Trump in the most grotesque, callous way politicizing this. But then to have a Democratic administration legitimize what Trump did by continuing it its a gaslighting to those people in Cuba, you know?

Rhodess comments some of the strongest criticism yet of Biden from a senior Obama official were disputed by a White House national security spokesperson.

President Bidens policy toward Cuba is rooted in supporting the Cuban people and protecting human rights. Our approach to Cuba, just like any other country, takes into account various current political, economic, and security factors, the spokesperson said.

Over the past few years, conditions in Cuba and in the region have changed, and we have adapted our Cuba policy accordingly.

The U.S. and Cuba have been at odds since 1959, when Fidel Castro took control of the island nation and installed a communist government closely aligned with the Soviet Union. In the decades that followed, millions of Cuban refugees settled in the U.S., and Cuban Americans became a key voting bloc in states like Florida.

Story continues

The Obama administration normalized relations with Havana, an effort that was overseen by Rhodes and culminated in Obamas visit to Cuba in March 2016. The thaw was short-lived, however: When Trump entered office in 2017, he quickly reversed many of his predecessors policies toward Cuba, citing the emergence of Havana syndrome a collection of odd symptoms, such as dizziness, vertigo, headaches and in some cases brain injuries originally reported by some U.S. officials in Cuba and later by American diplomats and spies serving all over the world.

The new three-part podcast from Conspiracyland, entitled The Strange Story of Havana Syndrome, recounts in its first episode how the reports of Havana syndrome ailments set off a chain of events that led to a reversal of Obamas policy. After the initial reports of strange health symptoms surfaced in 2017, the Trump administration pulled most U.S. diplomats out of Cuba and accused the countrys government of launching targeted attacks against U.S. personnel charges that were widely reported in the news media but which U.S. officials no longer endorse, as the podcast reveals.

Until recently, the Biden administration had maintained many of the tight restrictions Trump had reimposed on Cuba and even expanded some sanctions still in place, targeting the chief of Cubas Interior Ministry over his role in cracking down on hundreds of Cubans who protested economic conditions last year. (It also refused to invite Cuba to last Junes Summit of the Americas conference in Los Angeles, hosted by Biden.)

Cubas communist government denounced Bidens moves, saying they had harshly punished the countrys economy during the COVID epidemic and contributed to shortages of food and medicine. There is no difference between Bidens and Trumps policy toward Cuba, Johana Ruth Tablada de la Torre, the deputy director for U.S. affairs at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, says in an interview for the Conspiracyland podcast, adding that what the U.S. is doing to Cuba is criminal.

Also interviewed in the Conspiracyland podcast is Brian Nichols, assistant secretary of state for western hemisphere affairs, who blamed the Cuban government for the countrys economic woes. Until the Cuban regime decides to embrace democracy and free markets, I think its gonna be nigh-on-impossible for them to improve the situation there he said.

Nichols was also asked about the Biden administrations refusal to invite Cuba to this years Summit of the Americas conference, a rebuke that prompted leaders of Mexico, Bolivia and Honduras to boycott the event.

The host has wide latitude to determine whom they will invite, said Nichols. Although Cuban leaders have been invited in the past, since that time, they have made no progress toward increasing their respect for democracy, human rights, or the rule of law. So, clearly, allowing them to participate did not prompt better behavior on their part.

Michelle Obama organization teams up with climate group to mobilize young voters – The Hill

Michelle Obamas national voting initiative is teaming up with a climate group in an effort to mobilize young voters on the issue of climate change ahead of the midterms, The Hill has learned.

Obamas initiative, When We All Vote, is joining environmental organization Climate Power on the effort, which will total at least $1 million.

About $200,000 of that will be spent on voter registration, while the rest is expected to be spent on advertising.

The effort is anticipated to specifically home in on the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats climate, tax and health care bill enacted last month.

With passage of the Inflation Reduction Acts historic investments in climate action, we have an unprecedented opportunity to motivate young people to turn out to the polls,Lori Lodes, Climate Powers executive director, said in a statement.

The voting effort will include a website that allows people to check their voter registration, find their polling place and pledge to vote this year.

Obama launched When We All Vote in 2018. The organization is a nonpartisan organization that aims to increase voter participation in elections, according to its website. "They will never reign over England": Meghan Markle Wants To Make "Barack and Michelle Obama-sized money" By Selling Royal Family…

Meghan McCain believes that Meghan Markle is attempting to take the crown by selling royal secrets. Its easy to pinpoint a lady, and it becomes a paid job if she is popular. The Duchess of Sussex seems to be heading into this category of being an easy target to spark controversies. And that is exactly what Meghan McCain seems to be attempting to express with her harsh and blunt views on Meghan Markle.

After the great tragedy of Princess Diana, the royals have kept themselves all the more secretive. Its next to impossible for a lady who left the title to hold any such information. Even if she aims for the crown, its because she has the potential to at least try. As an audience, we do not have that possibility. Therefore, views on topics of people with a much higher power are always to be taken with a grain of salt.

The royal author and biographer, Meghan McCain, recently revealed her thoughts about the Duchess of Sussex to the world. Within her latest piece for the Daily Mail, the author expressed how Meghan Markle has sparked her interest in the royal family. She wrote about how their relationship has created some strong thoughts about the situation they are in.

I never really held very strong thoughts about the Royals until Harry and Meghan splashed onto the scene. Since then, Ive recognized that there is much to appreciate especially the inspiring example set by the queen. But Ive also come to recognize something else: Meghan doesnt mind tearing the Royal family apart.

With that last sentence in mind, Meghan McCain starts to talk about Meghan Markle without the slightest hint of hesitation. The authors words are blunt and harsh as they clearly make an accusation of the Duchess of Sussex.

Their recent Spotify deal about their podcast took their fame and success to a new height. It even managed to beat the top most successful podcaster on Spotify, The Joe Rogan Experience. The couples popularity can easily be argued to be similar to the Kardashians. As most of their fame originates from their interviews, podcasts, and even their upcoming Netflix documentary.

They want to be A-list celebrities in America. They want to make Barack and Michelle Obama-sized money off podcasts and streaming deals. And possibly most significantly, they do not want to play second fiddle to anyone.

The lifestyle that the couple has chosen has led them down the path of earning similar to celebrities, who often attend interviews and make deals with the entertainment industry. From having a royal status and privilege to having fame and success which connects them back to their past is definitely a valid point to be noted. As no matter how the couple puts it across, their wealth and fame linger on their history of being royal members themselves.

To be blunt they want to be King Harry and Queen Meghan. No matter how many magazine covers Harry and Meghan grace, or interviews they give or bombshells they drop to Oprah, they will never reign over England.

Women are often accused of being home breakers, and the same has been the case with Meghan Markle. Back when she was a child, Markle wrote a letter to the then First lady, Hillary Clinton, addressing an advertisement that hurt her feelings when she was just 11 years old. The advertisement was about a dishwashing liquid that stated women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans to which two boys from her class said, this is where women belong, in the kitchen. She wrote a letter to the dishwash company as well as Hillary Clinton and highlighted this reaction. Soon after a few months, the commercials tagline was changed to PEOPLE all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.

This moment changed her life she says, but ever since she has set benchmarks. Be it a divorce or marriage into a royal family or again voicing over the wrongs in said royal family. The saying goes, behind every successful man there is a woman. However, in this case behind every successful woman, there is a progressive man just like her husband. Therefore, the author seems to be aiming at an easy target to spark flames where only smoke exists.

What Is a Libertarian? | The Advocates for Self-Government

The political arena is often characterized by left wing and right wing, originally derived from discourse after the French Revolution between fans or foes of the monarch. Fans sat on the right side of the French Assembly and foes sat on the left side. Over the years various labels have been attributed to these sides, with conservatives, reactionaries, and fascists on the right and progressives, socialists, communists, and radicals on the left. In the libertarian view, they all represent high degrees of governmental control for varying purposes.

In American politics, the Republican Party is associated with the right wing and the Democratic Party with the left wing. Until the year 2000, the color red used to be associated with the left wing because of red flag symbolism of the Communist Party and the Red Guard. Then the color red was redefined by the media as associated with rural American states, rednecks, and Republican party politics. The color blue became associated with the Democrats.

The word liberal originated as a libertarian term advocating all forms of freedom, as it is still used in Europe today as classical liberal. But in the U.S., the word liberal came to be associated with the left wing in the 20th Century. As the term became unpopular with voters, the left wing abandoned it for the progressive, a term that took root in the early 20th Century under the Progressive Party of Sen. Robert LaFollett and President Theodore Roosevelt.

Libertarians are neither right nor left, though they might occasionally identify with either side on particular issues. For instance, the right wing sometimes, though not consistently, favors less government control over business and the economy with lower taxes and less commercial regulation. The left wing frequently favors more government control and taxes on business and commercial regulation.

On the other hand, the left wing sometimes, though not consistently, favors less government control over personal lifestyle decisions. Conversely, the right wing frequently favors the imposition of more government controls on personal lifestyle behavior such as sex, drugs, and gambling.

In the absence of principle to guide their behavior, right-wing and left-wing advocates can be found vacillating on important issues. For instance, in the 19th Century gun control was opposed by many on the left and favored by many on the right. Then in the 20th Century, their relative positions on gun control flipped. Libertarians are consistent on the issue of self-defense by applying the NAP.

The right wing and left wing have both favored aggressive military interventions abroad. Most American wars in the 20th Century have begun under Democratic administrations while Republicans have enthusiastically supported them. The reverse occurred in 2001 with recent wars in the Middle East. Libertarians tend to support only strictly defensive military action and prefer behavior that keeps the nation out of foreign affairs.

By subscribing to the nonaggression principle (NAP), libertarians remain consistent in championing all forms of personal freedom, at home and abroad, at any given time or with any particular issue.
