Mayor Adams says migrant crisis is undermining NYCs economy

Mayor Eric Adams said the ongoing influx of asylum seekers is threatening the citys already fragile economy, and hinted at legal action against Republican-led Southern states.

This is undermining our economy and is undermining our attempt to recover in our cities that were already dealing with crises, from COVID to monkeypox, to crime, to housing, Adams, who has prioritized jump-starting the citys economy by relying on the businesses, said in his first wide-ranging interview on Spectrum News/NY1 since becoming mayor.

Adams remarks come as he faces continued criticism over his plan to temporarily house asylum seekers in tents that critics say are located in inaccessible areas prone to flooding. More than 16,000 migrants have arrived in New York City so far this year, according to estimates from the mayors office, which believes the vast majority have been bused to the city.

On Monday night, the mayor announced he was relocating the tent city from Orchard Beach in the Bronx to Randalls Island a day after video surfaced showing the location was flooded. On Wednesday evening, Adams said his administration was doing everything it could, but needed assistance from Washington.

I'm not going to pit everyday New Yorkers against migrants and I'm not going to take away resources that we have to really allocate for everyday New Yorkers, Adams said. This is a national problem, it needs national response, and that is why we call on Washington to respond to this on a national level.

Piling onto the criticism of the mayors tent city plan, the City Council offered its own solution in a press release on Wednesday, with Speaker Adrienne Adams proposing the city remove migrants from the tent locations and put them into 10 large-scale hotels. Among these hotels would be the Gramercy Park Hotel, which is set to permanently close.

Given its own flood risks in the middle of hurricane season and colder temperatures from exposure to the East River as winter approaches, Randalls Island is inconsistent with humanitarian relief, the speaker said in a statement.

The plan also calls for fast-tracking the transitioning of sheltered homeless individuals into permanent housing in order to free up capacity.

In response, the mayor said he was open to hearing the City Councils ideas, which he told anchor Errol Louis he hadnt seen yet.

I'm looking forward to sitting down with the Council and Councilwoman Adrienne Adams, our speaker, and come up with those solutions, Adams said.

The mayor suggested racism toward him and the mayors of two other cities Chicago and Washington D.C. might factor into Republican governors decisions to send migrants to the city.

I dont know if its Black mayors, or if its just going to Northern cities, but something is wrong, the mayor said. I mean, we have thousands of cities in this country. Why are we specifically targeting Washington, Chicago, and New York? Theres something wrong with that.

He also said Sylvia Hinds-Radix, the citys Corporation Counsel, has been reviewing every legal ground to ensure we protect New Yorkers from this assault on our city. He argued that the the crisis is keeping the city from moving in a direction that we believe it should go into.

Boston Tea Party (political party) – Wikipedia

Political party in United States

The Boston Tea Party (BTP) was a United States political party named after the event known as the Boston Tea Party of 1773.

The political party's ideology was libertarian. A group of former Libertarian Party (LP) members founded the party in 2006. They criticized the LP for its "abdication of political responsibilities", saying that "Americans deserve and desperately need a pro-freedom party that forcefully advocates libertarian solutions to the issues of today".[2]

The party effectively disbanded in July 2012.[3]

The Boston Tea Party supported reducing the size, scope and power of government at all levels and on all issues and opposed increasing the size, scope and power of government at any level for any purpose.[citation needed]

The party's 20082010 program the four points of Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty[4] advocated, among other things, the withdrawal of all American troops from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East; an immediate and complete end to warrantless searches and seizures, warrantless surveillance, and other practices that encroach on personal freedom; and an audit of the Federal Reserve.[5] The program was deliberately adopted from Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty.[6]

On December 2, 2009, the national committee passed a spoon in Support of Honest Money.[7] One week later Ron Paul introduced H.R. 4248: Free Competition in Currency Act of 2009, a bill 'To repeal the legal tender laws, to prohibit taxation on certain coins and bullion, and to repeal superfluous sections related to coinage.'[8][9]

The party's members adopted their 20102012 program at their online convention held in May 2010. Its five main points are 1) End the Wars of Aggression and withdraw US troops from around the world, 2) End the Federal Reserve Banking System, 3) End the War on Drugs, 4) End Abuses of Liberty such as the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act, 5) End the Immigration Fiasco by eliminating government restrictions on human migration.[10]

The 2010 Boston Tea Party convention passed resolutions: calling for an independent investigation into the events of September 11, 2001; opposing intervention in Colombia; in support of the "Liberty Amendment"; and renouncing government in all forms.[11] On July 5, 2010, the National Committee passed a resolution opposing "Top Two".[12] On August 8, 2010, the National Committee passed a resolution to join the Coalition Against War Spending.[13]On November 19, 2010, the Boston Tea Party National Committee passed resolutions; opposing the TSA, naked porno-scanners & enhanced pat-downs and supporting the 2nd & 9th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America.[14]On February 4, 2011, the Boston Tea Party National Committee passed a resolution of support for the Tunisian and Egyptian people as well as the "rights of all peoples wishing to alter or abolish their present form of government."[15]On March 1, 2011, the Boston Tea Party National Committee passed a resolution supporting War Crimes trials for every person that has violated the 'law of war'. The BTP National Committee also passed a resolution condemning government censorship and any press organization and/or members of the media that intentionally distort and/or misrepresent facts.[16]

The final program adopted on May 2, 2012 read: "1. Monetary policy reform: Repeal legal tender law, allow for free competition of currency, and prohibit federal and state taxes on precious metal coins and bullion.2. Real budgetary reform: Abolish all subsidies/entitlements, drastically cut military spending, cut salary of all federal employees (including elected and appointed officials) and liquidate all government assets other than necessary office buildings.3. Pass the Downsize DC agenda of Congressional reforms: Read the Bills Act, One Subject at a Time Act, Write the Laws Act, and Enumerated Powers Act.4. End the Wars Abroad: immediately cease all foreign intervention and bring home troops stationed abroad.5. End the Wars at home: war on drugs, war on poverty, war on civil liberties."[17]

The party was founded in objection to new policy changes by the Libertarian Party announced at its Oregon convention in 2006.[18]

In September 2008, the libertarian website LewRockwell.com posted an article by libertarian economist Walter Block. In it, Block proclaimed his preference for the Boston Tea Party's candidates over those of the LP.[19] Block and other libertarians expressed discomfort over the "unlibertarian" history of the LP's 2008 presidential candidate, Bob Barr, a former Republican congressman.[citation needed]

On the April 19, 2011, episode of Jeopardy! the BTP was a $2,000 clue in a category called "The Mad Tea Party".[20]

On July 22, 2012, Darryl Perry announced his resignation as chair of the party.[21] As there were only two remaining members of the BTP National Committee at that time, Perry's resignation effectively disbanded the party.[citation needed]

Charles Jay was the party's first presidential nominee. He received the BTP presidential nomination in the 2008 general election. He was on the ballot in Florida, Tennessee and Colorado[22] and was a write-in candidate in more than ten other states. Thomas L. Knapp was the party's vice presidential nominee.[23] Knapp was also a candidate for US Congress as a Libertarian Party candidate in the same election.[24] However, alternate running mates included Marilyn Chambers (Arkansas, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Utah), Barry Hess (Arizona), Dan Sallis, Jr. (Colorado), John Wayne Smith (Florida) and Thomas J. Marino (Washington).[25][26]

In the 2008 presidential election, Jay received 2,422 votes, putting him in 15th place.[27]

On December 23, 2011, after a two-day Presidential Nominating Convention which took place online and was open to all BTP members, Tiffany Briscoe of Maryland was chosen as the 2012 BTP presidential nominee on the first round of voting with 13 out of 20 votes.[28] Kimberly Johnson Barrick of Arizona was chosen as the vice presidential nominee on the 2nd round of voting.[29]

On March 6, 2012, the party membership removed Briscoe as the BTP presidential nominee, replacing her with NOTA.[30]

On March 20, 2012, the party membership passed a motion to hold a new presidential nominating convention, which began on March 30, 2012.[31] Jim Duensing of Nevada was nominated on the 4th round of balloting.[32] Barrick remained the VP nominee.

Ultimately, the BTP did not run a candidate in the general election as the party disbanded in July 2012.[33]

Biden told Al Sharpton he will seek 2024 re-election: report

President Biden told Rev. Al Sharpton that he will run for re-election in 2024 during a visit to the White House that was reportedly recounted by the clergyman to his staffers.

Sharpton shared the revelation with employees of his National Action Network after meeting with the commander-in-chief earlier this month, NBC News reported on Monday.

Im going to do it again, Biden told Sharpton as they posed for a photograph in the Roosevelt Room, a National Action Network official recounted Sharpton saying.

Biden, 79, met with leaders of civil rights organizations on Sept. 2, including Sharpton, the White House said in a readout from that meeting.

The group discussed their shared commitment to advancing legislation protecting voting rights and to combating hate-fueled violence, the readout said.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The Post.

Biden has not announced officially whether he would seek a second term, and has brushed off questions that seek to get him to tip his hand.

Look, my intention, as I said to begin with, is that I would run again. But its just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen, Biden said during an interview last month on CBS News 60 Minutes.

Its much too early to make that kind of decision. Im a great respecter of fate. And so, what Im doing is Im doing my job. Im gonna do that job, he said. And within the timeframe that makes sense after this next election cycle here, going into next year, make a judgment on what to do.

That interview aired two weeks after Biden hosted Sharpton in the White House.

"Look, my intention, as I said, that began with is that I would run again. But its just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen."

2 migrant buses arrive outside Vice President Kamala Harris’ Naval …

WASHINGTON Two migrant buses from Del Rio, Texas, arrived near Vice President Kamala Harris' residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., Thursday morning.

Over 100 people who were picked up in Eagle Pass, Texas, were sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The group includes migrants from Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia and Mexico. Multiple migrants, asked by Fox News Digital, said they think the border is open, contrary to what Harris said Sunday during an interview.

This latest convoy of buses arrived just hours after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis followed through on his similar promise to drop off illegal immigrants in progressive states, sending two planes full of migrants to Marthas Vineyard on Wednesday.

A representative from a non-governmental organization called Sanctuary DMV showed up and told the migrants they would be going to a local church.

Carla Bustillos of Sanctuary DMV said they were "at Union Station since 6 in the morning waiting" and "just heard 20 minutes ago that the drop-off was this one."

"Weve already set up a church and a location a safe location for them to tell us where they need to go next, where they have relatives," she continued.

The ongoing relocation of incoming illegal border-crossers has become a popular method of protest for southern states overrun with migrants that are feeling ignored by President Biden's administration.

"I was surprised to see [the press] here before we could get here. So the press knew the location before we did, some of the volunteers its very frustrating," Bustillos said. "Were gonna make it happen, but it takes a lot of resources, a lot of effort."

DC MAYOR MURIEL BOWSER DECLARES EMERGENCY OVER MIGRANT BUSES FROM TEXAS, ARIZONA

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency last week over the buses of migrants' continued arrival in the city from Texas and Arizona.

ILLINOIS CALLS UP NATIONAL GUARD TO HANDLE MIGRANTS, CHICAGO WANTS FEDERAL MONEY DIVERTED FROM TEXAS

Brianne Nadeau, a member of the Council of the District of Columbia, blamed the governors of Texas and Arizona for the city's public migrant emergency.

Speaking in a situational update on migrant support alongside Bowser, she said Thursday that the city's systems were not set up to serve the migrants that continue to arrive in the city from the southern states.

"So, it's been said, but it's worth reiterating, that the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis. And, the federal government has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia," she told reporters. "So we, along with our regional partners, we'll do what we've always done. We'll rise to the occasion."
