Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard are continuing to work together to secure the border; stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and interdict transnational criminal behavior between ports of entry.

Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, the multi-agency effort has led to over 373,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 28,000 criminal arrests, with more than 25,000 felony charges reported. In the fight against fentanyl, Texas law enforcement has seized over 402 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this border mission.

Operation Lone Star continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration's refusal to secure the border. Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Joe Biden's open border policies.

With the ending of Title 42 on Thursday, President Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world, but Texas is deploying our new Texas Tactical Border Force, said Governor Abbott. "The Texas National Guard is loading Blackhawk helicopters and C-130s and deploying specially trained soldiers for the Texas Tactical Border Force, who will be deployed to hotspots all along the border to help intercept and repel large groups of migrants trying to enter Texas illegally.

On Thursday, Governor Abbott and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks spoke with Fox News in their first joint interview about the unprecedented surge of illegal immigrants President Biden is inviting into our country as Title 42 ends this week. The ending of Title 42 marks the latest effort by the Biden Administration to dismantle every effective border security measure enacted by the previous administration, which had reduced illegal border crossings to the lowest levels in decades before skyrocketing under President Biden.

If President Biden had not eliminated all of those policies, we would not be having the catastrophe we have today, said Governor Abbott. The border has been open under the Biden Administration, which is enticing people to come here illegally.

Until there are consequences for someone trying to enter this country illegally, [migrants] are going to continue to come, said Border Czar Banks, highlighting the situation he has observed as part ofhis border security duties. This is absolutely devastating the state and communities in Texas. We cannot continue to sit back and allow the federal government to let thousands and thousands of people into Texas and the rest of the United States.

Governor Abbott spoke with Fox News Sunday this week about the Biden Administrations complete refusal to enforce federal immigration laws that has created a national security crisis along Americas southern border. Noting the stark change of direction President Biden took on the nation's border security, Governor Abbott discussed how the previously effective policiesincluding Remain in Mexico, Title 42, ending catch-and-release, and building a border wallhad sent a message to the entire world that the border was closed.

Only when President Biden came into office and eliminated all those policies and laid down a welcome mat to the entire world that we suddenly have this chaos, said Governor Abbott. President Biden is sending 1,500 soldiers to the border to do paperwork. That is not going to secure the border. We need not 1,500 soldiers; we need 15,000 or 150,000 to secure the border because of the open border policies of the Biden Administration. This is a day late and tens of thousands of soldier too few.

Last December, there was a long line of migrants outside of El Paso trying to get in, said Governor Abbott. We set up a massive razor wire wall thats now 18 miles long. Overnight, the migrants stopped flowing at that location into El Paso. Weve seen this work, and were going to repeat it as often as possible up and down the border.

Were facing pressure [ahead of Title 42s end], but weve been facing pressure for the past two years since this crisis first started, said Lt. Olivarez. This is happening because the federal government took away every single policy and tool that was working. Were always looking for ways to expand operations. With Title 42 about to be lifted [Thursday night], we are here at ground zero.

Following Governor Abbotts deployment this week of the new Texas Tactical Border Force, specially trained Texas National Guard soldiers arrived at hotspots along the border to repel and turnback migrants attempting to enter Texas illegally.

Were increasing the size of our position by around six miles of 3-2-1 strand concertina wire, said Major Sean Storrud, commander, Task Force West, El Paso. These engineers are building over half-a-mile of 3-2-1 concertina wire barrier on a daily basis. Our goal is to cut off access to the United States from the Mexico side of the border. We have seen the effects where we have substantially reduced the number of migrants crossing into El Paso.

Texas National Guard Deploys Hundreds Of Additional Troops To Border Region

In response to the increasing number of illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border ahead of the Biden Administration's decision to end Title 42, on Tuesday the Texas National Guard deployed hundreds of additional soldiers and airmen to hotspots along the Texas-Mexico border. Governor Abbott this week ordered the deployment of additional soldiers to El Paso, who arrived via four C-130s.

Texas National Guard engineers in El Paso have been constructing miles of razor wire barriers to stem the influx of illegal immigrants into Texas communities.

While the Biden Administration is sending 1,500 troops to the southern border for civilian and administrative work, the Governor this week deployed a specialized tactical unit of trained Texas National Guard soldiers to repel mass migration and respond to this Biden-made crisis.

The federal government is allowing the influx of mass migration these past two years, said Lt. Olivarez. Theyve had two years to put a plan into place, but they have not done so. They want to create amnesty for the large groups of illegal immigrants, which is not going to stem the flow across the border.

Earlier this week, DPS Lt. Olivarez provided an update to Fox News about the critical situation developing along the border as Title 42 ends, with large groups of migrants waiting to pour across the border into America. Over the past two years, the number [of illegal border crossings] have fluctuated between 7,000-8,000 a day, but just in the past few days, weve hit well over 10,000 encounters in a single day, said Lt. Olivarez. Its not just large groups of people coming across. We cannot lose focus on whats happening behind the scenes as well. People are trying to avoid capture, and drugs are coming across. The Mexican drug cartels are looking forward to the end of Title 42.

Texas National Guard Helps DPS Apprehend Illegal Immigrants On Private Land

Texas National Guard soldiers assisted DPS in the tracking and apprehension of illegal immigrants trespassing on private property. The illegal immigrants set off motion sensor cameras, which alerted DPS troopers and Texas National Guard soldiers.

The Operation Lone Star partners coordinate on border security missions, which includes troopers deploying drone teams to effectively locate illegal immigrants and sharing those coordinates with troopers and soldiers to catch and apprehend migrants crossing illegally.

DPS seized 38 lbs. of methamphetamine after a traffic stop on US-90 in Uvalde County last week. A trooper stopped an SUV, and several illegal immigrants bailed out and ran toward the brush. Two were apprehended with the assistance of Border Patrol, and authorities found their backpacks were filled with methamphetamine. The driver from Houston was arrested and faces criminal charges for human smuggling and engaging in organized crime.

DPS Trooper Disrupts Human Smuggling Attempt With Five Illegal Immigrants

A DPS trooper disrupted a human smuggling attempt in Val Verde County this week. A female driver from Ukraine and male passenger from Houston were arrested and face criminal charges for human smuggling after troopers found five illegal immigrants from Honduras inside the vehicle. The couple was attempting to smuggle them to San Antonio in exchange for $1,500 a person.

Unconfirmed reports in Irans press suggest the country may take delivery of the first batch of Su-35 Flanker-E fighter jets it ordered from Russia in the coming weeks.

In an article that has since been removed, Irans official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the jets, also known as Super Flankers, will soon arrive in Iran. In light of the articles deletion and past rumors that the aircraft began arriving in April, and statements, such as one affirming the jets would begin arriving in March, ultimately proving premature or outright false, one should take this news with a grain of salt.

Still, the arrival of the Super Flankers in the not-too-distant future will undoubtedly mark a milestone for Irans long-neglected air force, officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF). The IRIAF hasnt imported any new fighter jets in 33 years. But one has to go back 47 years to find a fighter procurement this significant for Tehran.

In 1976, Iran began receiving the first of 80 F-14A Tomcats it ordered from the United States in a historic deal. Tehran ultimately received 79 of them before the 1979 Islamic Revolution ended close ties between Washington and Tehran.

Despite a U.S. arms embargo and chronically unreliable TF30 engines, F-14As inherited by the IRIAF, and often flown by pilots previously imprisoned and tortured by the new Islamist regime, fought throughout Irans lengthy eight-year war with Saddam Husseins Iraq, downing many enemy jets.

Outfitted with the powerful AWG-9 radar and armed with the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix air-to-air missile, which could hit targets up to 100 miles away, the Tomcat was a formidable opponent and a true air superiority fighter.

While the fourth-generation fighter, truly cutting-edge for its day, served Iran well, time has ultimately taken its toll. Irans rivals have acquired more advanced and modern jets in the intervening decades.

Iran bought a fleet of MiG-29A Fulcrum fighters from the Soviet Union in 1990. However, its F-14s out-flew the much newer Fulcrums, which was one reason the IRIAF did not buy large numbers of those Soviet jets.

The following year, Iraqi Air Force jets, including French-built Mirage F1s, flew to Iran to evade destruction by the juggernaut of the U.S.-led multinational coalition in the Persian Gulf War. Tehran confiscated them, putting most into service with the IRIAF. Iraqi Su-25 Frogfoot attack planes served in Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air arm and were later returned to Iraq in 2014 to help Baghdad combat the Islamic State group.

Iran previously contemplated buying the Su-30 Flanker from Russia. There have also been intermittent rumors since at least 2016 that Tehran wanted to co-produce that fighter aircraft.

Following Russias fateful February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Moscow and Tehran expanded their defense relationship to an unprecedented level. The latter supplied the former with hundreds of the single-use drones infamously used against Ukrainian cities. In return, Russia will provide Iran with at least two dozen Su-35s, most likely the ones initially built for export to Egypt in recent years in a deal Cairo is widely believed to have canceled.

Its unclear if Tehran will seek to import additional fighters or some co-production arrangement to assemble more in Iran. The Su-30 co-production rumor appeared again in early May, this time in Turkish media.

Su-35s in Russian service have proven lethal adversaries for their Ukrainian opponents. A well-known Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot recently told BBC that their biggest enemy is Russian Su-35 fighter jets.

While those super-maneuverable Russian jets are far more advanced than fighters in Ukraines current air force, which relies on early models of the Fulcrum and Flanker built in the 1980s, they are still limited in many ways. For example, the Su-35 is the only 4.5-generation aircraft that lacks an electronically scanned array radar (AESA) radar. That, along with many other potentially severe shortcomings, most likely means that the Su-35 will not enable Tehran to establish air superiority over the Persian Gulf, especially if it receives only 24. They will, on the other hand, bolster the IRIAFs aged fighter fleet and enhance Irans national air defense.

Whether they arrive in the coming weeks, months, or even in the next couple of years, the Su-35s will most likely become the most advanced fighter aircraft Iran has imported in the past half a century, something that, in and of itself, certainly is not insignificant.

Gov. Henry McMaster wasted little to no time reacting to US Title 42 expiring at Midnight Friday morning, issuing an executive order to SLED.

The Governor posted his letter to the chief of the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Mark Keel on Twitter Friday, ordering that airports notify the state of illegal immigrants within the airport at any point in time.

This comes in response to the end of Title 42, a COVID-19 public health emergency order that allowed border agents to prevent immigration at the U.S. - Mexico border on the grounds of medical concerns. Ultimately denying those seeking Asylum from entering the country.

It was put in place in March 2020, during the Trump Administration. President Biden originally planned to end the order in 2022, but a lawsuit kept in place until midnight on March 12.

The Governor pointed out in his letter concerns about the number of people expected to cross the border, ultimately issuing the request to SLED on Thursday.

DES MOINESIowa Attorney General Brenna Bird today announced new claims in her lawsuit against the Biden Administrations illegal immigration parole action. Those new claims challenge the Biden Administrations attempt to use immigration parole to release illegal immigrants into the country while record numbers flood the southern border.

The original lawsuit challenged the Biden Administrations immigration parole program, which allows 360,000 aliens from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to settle in the United States every year. The program effectively created a new visa program for otherwise illegal immigrantswithout any action from Congress.

On Tuesday, 48 hours before the expiration of the Title 42 border security policy, the Department of Homeland Security took actionto allow mass-parole for illegal aliens crossing the southern border. Historically, parolees were expected to appear for a hearing within sixty days of arrival. With the new expansion, known as Parole with Conditions, that 60 days can be extended indefinitely, effectively releasing illegal aliens into the heartland.

At a time where we have record numbers of illegal immigrants flooding our southern border, the Biden Administration decided to make things worse, said Attorney General Bird. Americans are dying from the drugs flowing into our communities. Women and children are being trafficked. But rather than secure our southern border, President Biden continues to weaken it. Thats why Im suing the Biden Administration over their illegal border actions and fighting to keep Iowans safe.

The Attorney Generals office is seeking an immediate temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to stop the new, unlawful policy from going into effect.

Attorney General Bird joined 12 other states in amendments to the Texas-led lawsuit.
