Former VP Mike Pence will attend 2023 Roast and Ride event in Des Moines – KGAN TV

DES MOINES, Iowa

Iowa US Senator Joni Ernst announced Monday former Vice President Mike Pence will be at her Roast and Ride event this June.

"The roast and ride is the one opportunity we have see them all (GOP candidates) on that center stage talking to those Iowa voters and like I said inspiring them to participate in the 2024 caucuses," Sen. Ernst said.

The annual event will be held June 3 and will consist of a motorcycle ride and a Roast and Ride rally.

Im excited to welcome Mike Pence to Roast and Ride this year! As a fellow motorcycle fan, Mike will also be joining me on my Ride to benefit Iowa's Freedom Foundation, said Joni Ernst. Even though Joe Biden and the national Democrats ditched Iowa, Republicans are maintaining our FIRST in the nation status. My annual Roast and Ride is THE event to be at in 2023! Its the perfect opportunity to engage directly with Iowans from all corners of the state.

Pence is the second special guest to be announced following former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Wherever Joni Ernst asks me to be, I will be. As proud parents of a Marine pilot, Karen and I understand the importance of giving back to organizations like Cedar Rapids own Freedom Foundation, an incredible veterans support charity," said Vice President Mike Pence. "I am honored that Joni has once again asked me to join her annual Roast and Ride and look forward to being back with the people of Iowa soon!

Sen. Ernst said she has invited all 2024 GOP presidential candidates and hopefuls. In an interview Monday with Iowa's News Now, Sen. Ernst said she will be announcing other special guests in the next few days.

The Roast and Ride will likely be the first time Iowans will get to see most, if not all of the GOP candidates in the same place.

Sen. Ernst says this allows Iowans a chance to get to know the candidates, see how they interact with one another, and hear their political points of view.

With caucus season right around the corner, the event also gives candidates a chance to recruit and build their volunteer base in Iowa.

"It's not just a matter of winning votes but getting people that are going to be willing to volunteer for you and go out and try to encourage others in their precinct to vote for you too," Hagle said.

The annual event began in 2015 and since then, high profile GOP leaders have attended the event from Former President Donald Trump to former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad.

Each year, Sen. Ernst donates proceeds from the event to a Veterans organization. This year she has chosen the Freedom Foundation in Cedar Rapids.
