BCCI wakes up from slumber

Calcutta: After sleeping for so long, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally woken up. The Board, on Monday, said that it would issue periodic media releases regarding Yuvraj Singh's health status.

Yuvraj is presently undergoing treatment in Boston for cancer in the left lung region."The BCCI is in touch with Yuvraj's family members. They have been inundated with calls from the media over the past few days. His family values the affection and concern the media has for Yuvraj," the BCCI said in a media release.

The Board has also appealed to the media to respect the Yuvraj's privacy. But, appealing to the media now is hardly of any use. The BCCI, in fact, could have given a statement much earlier regarding Yuvraj's health.

Meanwhile, in a fine gesture, Sri Lanka Cricket has also wished Yuvraj a speedy recovery.

"The president and the members of the executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, along with Mahela Jayawardene, our national captain, and the rest of the national team, the staff at SLC and all cricketers in Sri Lanka convey their prayers and blessings to our dear friend Yuvraj Singh for a speedy recovery," SLC said in a media statement.

"Our prayers are with Yuvraj's family, we are optimistic that Yuvraj will recover fast and will be back with his colleagues representing his country once again. Get well soon Yuvraj. The cricket-loving public of Sri Lanka joins us in wishing you good health and the best of luck on your road to recovery," the statement added.

Late on Monday, Yuvraj tweeted: "Thank you to everyone who has been praying for my recovery... I love you all... God bless you..."
