Adam Vaughan to run for Liberals in Trinity-Spadina byelection: reports

Toronto Coun. Adam Vaughan is planning to run for the Liberals in the upcoming federal byelection in the downtown riding of Trinity-Spadina.

The riding was vacated by Olivia Chow when she resigned last month to run for Toronto mayor. Elections Canada hasnt announced the byelection date yet.

The federal Liberals have reportedly been courting Vaughan for several months now.

Ipsos Reid pollster John Wright said Vaughans high profile in the city and left-leaning politics will appeal to the voters in Trinity-Spadina.

It makes perfect sense. Hes going to be able to represent from not only an urban area but from a political left-of-centre area, Wright explained. Hes going to be a formidable candidate.

Vaughan is a bitter political rival of Mayor Rob Ford and his brother Coun. Doug Ford, who somewhat wished him well.

Well, I wish him luck in Ottawa but he wont be able to act as immature as he does in city hall.

If Vaughan wins the nomination, his main opponent would be NDP candidate Joe Cressy, a long-time Chow supporter. Cressy has already wished Vaughan luck on Twitter.
