Toronto-Based Internet Marketing Company, Numero Uno Web Solutions, Releases Statement on Upcoming Changes to the Way …

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) June 14, 2013

Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-size business-to-consumer companies, is releasing an expert opinion on upcoming changes to the way Google will rank web sites poorly constructed for mobile users.

According to a recent report, more than a third (34%) of American adults own a tablet computer (iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc.)almost twice as many as the 18% who owned a tablet in 2012. On top of that, 56% of adults own a smartphone. At the same time, mobile browsers render web pages differently from desktop browsers; as a result, brands need to consider taking some steps to ensure their content operates seamlessly across all platforms: PCs, laptops, smartphones, and tablets. Its fair to say that smartphone and tablet users make up a significant and fast-growing segment of Internet users, says Nadia Iaboni, digital solutions manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions. This has not been lost on Google, the worlds most popular search engine. In an effort to improve the search experience of smartphone users, Google announced its plans to roll out several ranking changes in the near future, where sites with mobile experience issues wont rank as highly in Googles mobile or smartphone search results. To attract mobile users, says Iaboni, a brand needs to develop a mobile search strategy that is different from its PC strategy. One of the best strategies is to publish content that is mobile friendly.

In a statement on some of the more common smartphone misconfiguration mistakes Google will be penalizing, Iaboni says: To rank higher on Google smartphone search results, brands need to ensure their sites are optimized to work across multiple platforms. For example, many videos do not play on smartphone devices. This could be because sites are not optimized properly, or they use an outdated format. When it comes to ranking higher online, brands need to make sure their videos are playable; Google owns YouTube and isnt going to ignore the impact video has on its online community.

Another common mistake is that smartphone users, when trying to access a listed search web page, get an error message, says Iaboni. Even if the available content is not smartphone-friendly, its better to have something for users to look at than to show an error page.

Page loading speed on smartphones is also important. Google Analytics data show that the average web page takes over 10 seconds to load on mobile devices. To rank higher on Google mobile or smartphone search results, the content that is immediately visible on a smartphone screen should ideally render in less than one second.

When it comes to ranking higher on Googles mobile search results, its better to be proactive than reactive. Thats because some web sites never fully recover their rankings after search engines refine the way their algorithms crawl the Internet," Iaboni concludes. "To ensure web sites are fully optimized for mobile users, its imperative that smaller businesses hire an Internet marketing firm that knows how to design a tailored SEO campaign that is optimized for use across all platforms.
