School of Internet Marketing Instructor on Surviving the Google Penguin Update

Jersey City, New Jersey (PRWEB) July 02, 2013

The recent Penguin update by Google has been a cause for concern for many webmasters and website owners. As always, there is worry about the impact it will have on average websites. Jonathan Goodman, Professor at The School of Internet Marketing and President of Halyard Consulting discussed these concerns in a recent podcast. He explained what the update was about and how it could affect website owners.

"If they were obeying the rules,...everyone would kind of take this with a grain of salt instead of all...this conversation going into the fear and the threat of the Google algorithm." Jonathan Goodman

Goodman's basic message to listeners was that if you are doing what you should and not attempting to manipulate Google, you should have nothing to worry about with the latest Penguin update. He continued the discussion by stating Google's purpose in the update. Besides the generalized changes to prevent black hat SEO tactics, Google also created a Penguin Spam Report that people could use to submit information to inform Google when they are directed to a spam site in their searches.

He explained that Google algorithms change daily and that the update was an attempt to improve search results. Penguin 2.0 is actually the fourth update and focuses on improving detection of hacked sites to alert website owners when someone has hacked into their websites. Goodman recommended that site owners take the time to update their server and website to prevent hackers from being able to gain access. He also reassured listeners that the sky isn't falling and the best way to protect yourself is to educate yourself on authorship markup and Google Webmaster Tools; the update will affect approximately 2.3% of English queries.
