The solution is simple and you can make it happen. Congress can pass a law to make the current e-Verify background check system mandatory, with prison sentences for employers who flout the law. To make it fair to all of those undocumented folks who came here at the clear invitation of cheap-labor Republicans and Democrats who wanted their vote, we simply grant a one-time amnesty to all who have not committed crimes.

Ronald Reagan did this in the 1980s, but he came to regret it when no laws were passed to limit further illegal immigration. Mandatory e-Verify is a law that would do just that. And you need to look no further than Canada and Australia to see that such laws work very well.

Here is what you can do. When you receive requests for political donations from the Republican National Committee, the Democratic National Committee, Cory Gardner, Michael Bennet, Ken Buck and Jared Polis, just send the letter back to them with a note that you will contribute money when they pass a law to make e-Verify mandatory and grant amnesty. This will cost you nothing their return envelopes are postage-paid. And if you think you won't make a difference, remember that Bernie Sanders raised nearly a quarter of a billion dollars during his campaign from small donors.

We don't need an expensive wall and we don't need to break apart families of immigrants who came here with a wink and a nod from both Democratic and Republican legislators. Withhold your money and your legislators will listen.
