When it comes to 2016, Sen. Chuck Schumer is betting on Hillary Clinton but hes not quite ready to bet against Elizabeth Warren.

New Yorks senior Democratic senator is putting stock in the former Secretary of State, saying Sunday that he thinks its all but certain shell run for President in 2016.

Hillary hasn't told me, and I haven't dared ask her," Schumer said on CNN's "State of the Union." "But I'll bet she's running, I'll bet she'll be a great candidate, I'll bet she'll win by a large majority.

And then Democrats can help the middle class whose incomes have been declining for 15 years in a very united way, he added about Clinton, who has said shell decide whether shes running next year.

But Schumer also praised Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the liberal Massachusetts Democrat who many in the partys left wing desperately want to challenge Clinton for the nomination.

Elizabeth Warren is, even if people don't agree with her, constructive, Schumer said of his colleague. She's working hard to move things in her direction. And that's a good thing.

A potential Warren candidacy has gained traction in recent days, after news emerged that more than 300 former Obama campaign staffers pledged their support to the Bay Stater.

A cohort of former Obama aides signed a letter Friday urging Warren to run for President, praising the middle-class advocate for (standing) up for working families and take on the Wall Street banks and special interests.

Warren, however, has repeatedly said she will not run.
