Hillary Clinton Campaigns for Grimes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) -- With less than three weeks to go in the election, United States senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes called in Hillary Clinton to campaign for her.

The two women along with several prominent Kentucky democrats fired up the crowd of about 4,500 in downtown Louisville.

They all said it was time for a change after 30 years of Sen. Mitch McConnell and talked about a need to raise the minimum wage as well as equal pay for women.

"Isn't just amazing that it's 2014 and we are still debating whether women deserve equal pay for equal work. That is not preferential treatment, that is fairness and common sense, and the women of Kentucky deserve to have somebody who knows that and will fight for it," said Hillary Clinton.

Clinton, Governor Steve Beshear and others also talked about the need to keep affordable health care in Kentucky and touted what Kynect has done insuring more than 500,000 Kentuckians.

The event was all for Grimes to try and take down the 30 year incumbent republican Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell.

"My name may be on the ballot, but your backs have to be in this with me if we are going to make history. Eric Cantor won't be the only republican leader going down this year. We need your time. We need your talents. We need you phoning your neighbors and going door to door. Mitch McConnell can buy the air waves, but can he buy Kentucky? Let me hear you say no," said Alison Lundergan Grimes, democratic candidate for United States Senate.

"She, with her energy, with her intelligence, her commitment, will make a difference in your lives. There is no limit to what you can achieve together. I have believed that my whole life. I believe that's what we're put on this earth to do, to make it better for our children and yes, our grandchildren. I know Alison believes that as well. That's what this election is about, get out there, knock on every door, e-mail and text everybody you know. Make it possible for everyone to know what the stakes are. Let's put another crack in that glass ceiling, and elect this incredible young woman to the United States Senate," said Clinton.

Clinton is widely expected to run for President in 2016 and she received several shouts of that tonight from people like Gov. Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway.

The McConnell campaign released a statement to WBKO about the event, "The only possible reason why Alison Lundergan Grimes would throw a party for Hillary Clinton but refuse to admit she voted for Barack Obama is that she thinks we're all too stupid to figure out they have the exact same policy views."
