Eric Holder delivers eulogy for slain Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells

Attorney General Eric Holder says a deputy U.S. marshal who was killed in a shootout in Louisiana was a leader who carried on his family's legacy in law enforcement.

Holder delivered the eulogy Tuesday (March 17) forJosieWellsat a funeral service near Moss Point, Miss.

The 27-year-oldWellswas killed in a shootout last weeknear Baton Rouge, while he and other officers tried to arresta man suspected of killing two people outside a New Roads nightclub.

Holder read a message from President Barack Obama. Holder said thatWellsknew the risks and importance of his job and that he wore the badge proudly.

Wells' wife is pregnant with the couple's first child, a boy who'll be named for his father.

Wellswas the first deputy marshal killed in the line of duty in the U.S. since March 2011.
