PHILADELPHIA>> Democrat Joe Sestak will walk 80 short of 500 miles in his military-grade boots for a second shot at ending up at the front door of the U.S. Senate chambers.

"I promise you, it's going to be a darn fine walk to earn the trust of Pennsylvanians," he said Wednesday before swapping out his white high-top Reebok sneakers for the boots he wore during his tour in Afghanistan.

Sestak stood in front of Independence Hall an appropriate backdrop to push forward his "We the People" campaign to announce the start of his second attempt at the Senate seat currently held by Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey. Modeling the famous lines of the U.S. Constitution as his slogan, he said he wants to mend a shortfall, or "trust deficit," between politicians and those that elected them.

He laced up his boots as "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers played in the background. He was joined by about 100 supporters to send him off on his 422-mile campaign walk to unseat Toomey.

Sestak, pushing for government accountability, said he wants to earn the trust of Pennsylvania "one step at a time."

The retired three-star admiral and one-term 7th Congressional District representative plans to walk from east to west across the state by the end of March. He trekked several blocks through the slushy streets of Philadelphia to the Vietnam War Memorial to gain support from war veterans.

Along his campaign trail, Sestak plans to meet with small business owners, senior citizens, law enforcement personnel and hunters, to name a few.
