Letter: Vote Democrat

I am not a native Kansan, but I can imagine many native Kansans feel rather frustrated.

They may be thinking, My dad voted Republican, my grandpa voted Republican, and probably my great-grandfather voted Republican. It would be so easy to follow after them and not have to think about it. But this time, it is different.

Gov. Sam Brownback and his administration are attempting to control our everyday life: their secrecy, their deprivation of our freedoms, their distorted interpretation of our religious affiliations and of different gender relationships.

The governor is talking about how much money he has devoted to education, but it took a Kansas Supreme Court ruling to increase funding for education. Kansas universities have suffered from decreased financial support from the state.

KanCare, Brownbacks reinvention of Medicaid, is delaying payment to hospitals and providers and may cause small rural hospitals to close their doors.

Our states monetary reserves have been greatly depleted because of tax cuts in Brownbacks misguided attempt to create jobs.

If all these problems were not enough, Brownback has tried to pack the courts with like-minded judges attempting to rid the state of its nonpolitical appointment of the judiciary.

Kansas must rid itself of this self-serving governor and Legislature and regain its respected status. To vote Republican is voting against the economic interests of most of us most of the time. Its a shot in the foot.

BARTLETT W. RAMSEY, Topeka
