If you think that your opponent has made a mistake, and that you can win something for nothing dont be too hasty! Your eagerness to get ahead on material may be your undoing.

Some players are adept at setting traps, playing apparently weak moves that conceal a sting in the tail.

1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 a6 6 Bg5 e6 7 f4 Qb6 (attacking the white b-pawn) 8 a3!?

This is not very constructive if Black continues quietly, but if his suspicions are not aroused and he goes 8 Qxb2? then with 9 Na4 the jaws of the trap close around his queen.
