About Leclanch

Leclanch specializes in the production of tailor-made energy storage solutions. Leclanchs strategy is to expand its position as one of the leading lithium-ion cell producers and solution providers for renewable energy storage systems in Europe. Its initial strategic priorities are stationary home electrical energy storage applications and expansion into the stationary industrial and grid electricity storage markets. Through participation in research consortia focusing on off-road and automotive applications, Leclanch is positioned to take advantage of new market opportunities.

Through a unique, patented ceramic separator technology and focus on lithium-titanate technology, Leclanch manufactures large-format lithium-ion cells, optimized for safety and cycle-life, in a fully automated production process. At the end of the second quarter 2012, Leclanch started operations of its first production line with an installed annual capacity of up to 76 MWh in lithium-titanate cells.

Leclanch was founded in 1909 in Yverdon-les-Bains. Through the integration of a spin-off from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in 2006, the company evolved from a traditional battery manufacturer to become a leading developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion cells in Europe. Leclanch currently employs 120 staff and is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (LECN). The company has its headquarters in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland) and production facilities in Willsttt (Germany).

Alabama State Rep. Patricia Todd's use of the word "rogue" not viewed as negative by a few colleagues

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Several legislators, who were called upon today by a group to repudiate another legislator's use of the word "rogue" to describe two other colleagues, said they did not take the comment to be negative when they heard it.

"Ms. Todd is entitled to her opinions," said State Sen. Linda Coleman.

The Committee to Develop Birmingham this morning held a press conference to call upon five state legislators to repudiate a recent comment by Alabama State Rep. Patricia Todd, who is white, that referred to two African American legislators from Jefferson County as "rogue" delegation members.

Todd, who is white, used the word in a comment referring to State Reps. John Rogers and Mary Moore at a July 30 meeting regarding the state takeover of Birmingham city schools. Others legislators in that meeting were Sens. Linda Coleman and Priscilla Dunn and Reps. Merika Coleman, Rod Scott, and Juandalynn Givan, who also are African American.

Todd today apologized if the use of the word rogue offended anyone. But she said she meant it as a description of someone who goes outside the consensus of the group, which in that case was the group of legislators. "I meant it in terms of their behavior ... my statement was an adjective, not a noun," she said.

Todd had made the "rogue" comment in reference to previous comments by Rogers and Moore. ''We have two rogue members of the delegation who, unfortunately, people think are speaking on behalf of the entire delegation. We all get lumped together,'' Todd had said.

Scott said that if Todd said "rogue" then he doesn't think he took it as a negative. "If I heard I probably took it in the way she (Todd) interpreted it," he said.

However, Scott said, he would never call a colleague a rogue representative.

Givan said she didn't think Todd meant the word "rogue" in the way some have interpreted it.

She said she believe that Todd was saying what she and other legislators have all said "that we don't all speak for each other."

One Word That Defines a Great Personal Brand

Julia Allison, one of the Web's biggest self-promoters, explains how to define your brand before others do it for you.

Julia Allison

I was convinced that trying to build a personal brand, especially for the average small-business owner, is a waste of time. And I was admittedly kinda smug about it.

Then Julia Allison put me solidly in my place--in the nicest possible way, mind you.

Here's another in my series in which I pick a topic, connect with someone smarter than me, and we discuss. (There's a list of previous installments at the end of this article.)

This time, I talked to Julia Allison, Elle columnist, speaker on all things branding related, and star of the Bravo series Miss Advised. She was also profiled in Wired a few years ago for her personal branding savvy.

Jeff: If I say the average small-business owner shouldn't worry about personal branding, what would you say?

Julia: I would start by laughing.
