M'sian opposition alliance firm on 'Allah' stance

Petaling Jaya (The Star/ANN) - Opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat's stand on the use of the word "Allah" remains unchanged despite its key constituent Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) Syura Council's decision that the word cannot be used to describe God in any non-Muslim publications.

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said he had read the Syura Council's statement and understood its concerns but for now, Pakatan's stand remains the same as the views given by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang on the matter.

"We have not revised our stand following the Syura Council's decision on this matter.

"It can be brought up for discussion but so far, there's none," Anwar said in a press conference yesterday.

On January 8, Hadi said that the word "Allah" is not restricted only to Muslims as Christians and Jews are also allowed to use it, but the name should not be used in a wrong and irresponsible manner that could jeopardise racial and religious harmony.

This was the common stand taken by PAS, Democratic Action Party (DAP) and People's Justice Party (PKR), on the matter, following a lengthy discussion between Hadi, Anwar and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

The PAS president's statement echoed DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's Christmas message in which he said that non-Muslims should be allowed to use the word "Allah" in the Malay version of the Bible.

However, a week after Hadi publicly voiced the view, PAS' Syura Council decided that the word "Allah" cannot be used to describe God, stating while the word was universal and had been used by pre-Islamic Arabs, it could not be used as the translation for the word "God" from any other language.

How Smart Companies Use PR to Get the Word Out

What you need to know to market your new business idea, without spending much (or at all).

Even the world's most brilliant idea doesn't mean much if no one knows about it. It needs marketing, promotion, advertising--a viral wildfire that sweeps across the nation, and even oceans.

Companies with plenty of cash can launch real marketing campaigns, and hope they go viral. But what do you do when you don't have that much money? It's called PR. Public Relations. A powerful tool that can make you the talk of the town without spending a lot. But only if it's done well.

I have used PR as a very effective marketing and advertising tool for many years, for all of my companies. And in that time I learned some very valuable lessons.

1. No one cares about your story.

From your perspective, your company is interesting, and your products are the best around. But every entrepreneur believes the same thing. And the reporter you are sending your press release or calling to pitch has heard the same spiel from every company that contacted her this week.

No one cares that you launched a new company. No one cares that another set of products has been unleashed upon the world.

Media is interested in one thing:the effect of your product. The lives that have been changed or made better by your company and your product.

Mum's the word for excited Rochelle

Mum's the word for excited Rochelle

3:40pm Thursday 24th January 2013 in National Entertainment News Press Association 2013

Rochelle Humes has confessed she struggled to keep her pregnancy a secret from her Saturdays bandmates.

The 23-year-old and her husband, JLS singer Marvin, announced in November that they are expecting their first baby together, but had to keep the good news quiet at first.

Rochelle - who has been busy filming her E! Entertainment reality show Chasing The Saturdays in Los Angeles - said: "Oh yeah, it's the hardest secret to keep anyway, because you have to wait to the sort of safe point and being away from home it was definitely strange.

"The girls would be saying, 'Let's go out for sushi tonight' and I'm like the biggest leader for that, I'm always saying, 'Let's do something' but I'd go and disappear into my room."

She added: "They all had the chat without me and outed me, they were like, 'Are you pregnant?'"

The mum-to-be also said she was coping well with the girlband's hectic schedule.

"I don't know any different. It's my first experience of being pregnant. There's definitely a lot going on. We're the busiest we've ever been in our whole career. But it's kicking and it's going for it in there."

And Rochelle insisted she won't be letting the TV cameras into the delivery room.
