Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant has welcomed his second child, a son.

The actor took to Twitter to announce the news Saturday, after reporters had apparently gotten word of the birth and contacted Grant.

After receiving congratulations from well wishers, Grant added that the press somehow got [the] birth certificate and he hoped his family would be left in peace now that he had confirmed the birth.

Grant became a father for the first time in September 2011, with the birth of his daughter, Tabitha. Tinglan Hong, who is nineteen years younger than the 52-year-old Grant, is the mother of both of his children.

After becoming among the most vocal figures criticizing invasions of privacy against celebrities in Great Britain, he waged and won a legal battle to prevent U.K. paparazzi from camping outside Hong's home. Grant also will receive damages following the alleged News of the World phone hacking scandal.

In October 2012, News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch issued in apology to Grant, after insinuating in a tweet the actor had abandoned his daughter.

Grant most recently appeared on the big screen in last years Cloud Atlas. He is signed on to star alongside Marisa Tomei in an untitled romantic comedy from Marc Lawrence, which is eyeing an April start date. Grant is to play a washed-up screenwriter who moves to the East Coast to teach his craft at a small college.

The longest Tri-State Spelling Bee in collective memory ended Saturday afternoon in a spell-off between last years spelling champion and a fifth-grade challenger.

Aaron Manning won the bee with the word crocuses, which are bulbs, plants or blooms of a large genus of perennial herbs widely cultivated for their solitary long-tubed flowers.

Im a pretty good speller, Manning said, standing with his parents, siblings and friends in Vectren Auditorium at Ivy Tech Community College while holding his enormous first-place trophy with both hands.

This is the eighth-grade Plaza Park International Prep Academy students second consecutive year winning the Evansville Courier & Press Tri-State Bee; and it will be his second time representing the area in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

It was not an easy victory.

The spell-a-thon went 18 rounds, with the judges actually skipping five pages of the official bee word list to get to the more difficult options: raconteur, fraulein, gnathonic, mnemonic, pickelhaube, voortrekker.

I didnt know what the words meant, said second-place winner Charu Jain, a fifth grader at J.L. Buford Intermediate Educational Center in Mount Vernon, Ill. I always ask if theres an alternate pronunciation. Like, I thought patently was spelled pattonly at first, then I heard the other pronunciation.

She smiled, clutching her bright blue, second place trophy. She had spelled patently right, and several words after it, but was knocked out eventually by the word condescension.

Jain qualified for the Tri-State competition this year after she won her schools spelling bee, along with other 155 school spelling bee champions from 29 counties in the Tri-State area. Her goal was simply to qualify for the oral bee. (Students take a written spelling test Saturday morning to qualify for the afternoon event.)

Her competition was an eighth-grader, Jains father, Vipin Jain, said. We are very proud of her.

As early as 3.15pm, the group, from the Pas Pasir Gudang division, had gathered at the Masjid Jamek Taman Cendana grounds.

They raised banners condeming DAP, its national chairman Karpal Singh and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, as well as opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The banners were strongly worded with words such as "Mampus" and "Kurang Ajar" used against the opposition leaders.

Some were also seen stomping on the DAP's rocket party symbol in protest.

The group, led by Pas Pasir Gudang member Abd Razak Mansur, said that they were dissapointed with DAP, Karpal Singh, Lim and Anwar for their insistence in allowing non-Muslims to use the word "Allah".

"They seem insistent on not following the decision by the Pas Syura Council.

"However, all Pas leaders have been told to abide the council's decision, but it seems that only Pas leaders from the east coast states respect the decision. What about the rest?" he said when met after the demonstration.

As Pas members, Abd Razak said they want an explanation from the Pas Syura Council as will it be a sin if they assist the DAP and PKR in the coming General Elections.

"For more than 50 years Pas has stood on its own. It's no lost if Pas exits from the opposition coalition.
