Mom stomped on girl to punish her, Hazelwood police say

HAZELWOODA mother upset over her teenage daughter's posting on a social networking site hit, kicked and stomped the girl to punish her, police said Friday.

The girl, 14, was taken to Christian Hospital to be treated for abrasions and blood found in her urine, which may be a sign of serious injury, authorities say. The mother is in jail.

Harmony M. Camden, 37, of the 100 block of Reasor Drive, was charged this week with child abuse. She is being held on $25,000 bail. Child abuse is a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Hazelwood Police Officer Josiah Peacock said in court papers that the attack happened Monday at their home. Camden hit her in the face and ear and kicked and stomped her back and side, Peacock said.

A police report says the fight started with a posting on a social networking site that the mother didn't appreciate. The dispute escalated over issues from previous arguments, police say.

An anonymous hotline call about abuse came to the state child-welfare agency, which notified police. Police took the girl into protective custody and then to the hospital.

Camden's next court date is set for May 28 in St. Louis County.

Police didn't say what exactly was said online that triggered the alleged attack, but on Camden's own Facebook page she has recent postings that appear to talk about the trouble.

"Because I put my foot in her (expletive) when she (expletive) up, doesn't make me a bad parent!" she wrote in one. "But, you think you can do a better job, fine, go for it."

Social networking spotlight on spot fixing

With most news breaking on social media, the IPL spot fixing scandal was no different. Reactions, both good and bad, flew fast and thick on social networking sites.

Literally within minutes, the Facebook timelines were flooded with shocked and angry statuses. Many of them berated the three Rajasthan Royal players, S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan for their alleged involvement; others expressed their indifference, stating that they were not surprised at what had transpired.

Memes likening the trio to Salman Butt and Mohammed Asif (who recently lost an appeal to overturn their ban from cricket after being implicated in a spot-fixing scandal) appeared. Photos of Batman villain, the Joker, inscribed with his quote, If youre good at something, never do it for free, was posted often, pointing out to Sreesanths poor form this season.

K Nihal, a cricket crazy software engineer, posted, And here we were thinking he was just out of form. Apparently that was not the case!

The Twitterati went to town: a constant flow of tweets from news agency handles and the public ensured that #spotfixing was the top trending hashtag in India.

Raj Kundra (@TheRajKundra) owner of RR tweeted, Just when IPL was going on so smoothly without controversies I woke up to the news of 3 RR players alleged spot fixing. Investigations r on [sic].

Others, like Anita Bhogle (@BhogleAnita) said, "'It is our choices, Harry that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities'. Wish our young cricketers had a Dumbledore."

Most sympathised with the captain of RR, Rahul Dravid, one of the most respected and admired players of the game. "Rahul Dravid, as much as the game of cricket, didnt need to see this from one of his boys. Not now. Not ever. #legend," said actor Siddharth (@Actor_Siddharth).

However, the wisecracks werent far behind, especially after Delhi Polices revelations about the towel being used as a signal. @_fakeiplplayer said, The biggest impact on cricket of this Sreesanth incident is that no bowler will ever bowl with a towel stuck in his pants. #spotfixing.

A widely re-tweeted one goes, A towel can change your life: one made Ranbir Kapoors career, and another finished Sreesanths. In all, it was a field day for all those who share their opinions online.
