Republican Greg Abbott, the three-term attorney general, is a favorite over Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis of Fort Worth.
Their race, which has drawn national attention, has featured heated charges of unethical dealings and disputes on issues from spending to immigration. The race is the first in which no incumbent is running since 1990.
Lieutenant governor
Two state senators are competing for the right to preside over the chamber. Tea-party favorite Dan Patrick of Houston holds the edge, but Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio is aiming to drive up turnout among Hispanic voters and moderate women.
Attorney general
Republican Ken Paxton of McKinney is the likely winner, though hes been dogged by ethics charges. Democrat Sam Houston, an attorney from Houston, hopes to take advantage.
U.S. Senate
Incumbent Republican John Cornyn is all but certain to win a third term, and if Republicans win control of the Senate, hell be the No. 2 leader in the chamber. Democrat David Alameel, a Dallas dentist and investor, has focused his campaign on Democratic strongholds.
