Obama's 5 Best Jokes about Hillary, Biden and the GOP

When President Obama trots out his comedy chops, both Republicans and Democrats beware.

Speaking at the Gridiron Clubs annual dinner, a white-tie affair that includes skits, songs, and a whole lot of schmoozing, Obama let loose over the weekend, predicting his audience (mostly journalists, lawmakers, and public officials) would laugh harder than ever.

Im not saying Im any funnier -- Im saying weed is now legal in DC, the president quipped at this weekends event in Washington, D.C.

Obama, who last week poked fun at Hillary Clinton on Jimmy Kimmel Live, didnt shy away from further digs at his former Secretary of State, currently under fire for using a private email address and server.

Think about how things have changed since 2008. Back then, I was the young, tech-savvy candidate of the future. Now Im yesterdays news and Hillary has got a server in her house, he joked.

I think 2016 will come down to the issues. For example, equal pay. Did you know that the average male presidential candidate earns $150,000 less per speech than a woman doing the same job? he continued, an apparent jab at Clintons high-dollar speaking fees.

Its terrible. We got to fix that, he added.

Obama also ribbed his own VP, who was criticized for getting a little too cozy with the Defense Secretarys wife, Stephanie Carter, last month.

Joe rubs my shoulders, too, the president said. I just wanted everybody to know, he does. Its not bad, it feels pretty good. I dont let him give me a pedicure, but ...

The president also couldnt resist few shots at Republicans naturally, including Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the GOPs official speaker for the evening and a potential 2016 presidential candidate.

Obama's 7 best jokes at D.C. dinner

But when he does, he goes all out, taking jabs at himself, the Republicans (unofficially) running for president, and even Hillary Clinton.

Here are the top seven moments from Obama's joke-filled address to the crowd of insiders:

That's because Obama was placing his trust in something he had quite a bit of experience with in his teens.

"I'm not saying I'm any funnier. I'm saying weed is now legal in D.C."

"You start getting crankier as you get older. Next week, I'm signing an executive order to get off my lawn," Obama joked, making light of the controversy over his use of executive actions.

Pointing out that "getting older changes you," the President, who's known for drinking tea, explained that "coffee really disagrees with me these days."

"Which is why John Boehner just invited coffee to address the joint House," Obama joked, less than two weeks after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Congress at Boehner's invitation.

"Just a few years ago, I could never imagine ever being in my fifties. And when it comes to my approval ratings, I still can't."

"Think about how things have changed since 2008. Back then, I was the young tech-savvy candidate of the future," Obama said. "Now I'm yesterday's news and Hillary has got a server in her house."

"I didn't even know you could have one of those in your house," he continued. "I am so far behind. Did you know that? I would have gotten one."

Obama Says He's Prepared to Fight GOP Over Education

Pointing to increased high school graduation rates, President Barack Obama said Monday he's prepared to fight with Republicans for school funding and his education priorities rather than risk going backward.

The president said he hopes that Republican lawmakers focus on educating every child and not shifting money away from needy districts. He's also calling for a focus on low-performing schools, annual assessments and investments in special education and English-language learners.

Obama said if the Republican budget doesn't reflect those priorities, they will have "a major debate."

"We are making too much progress now in terms of graduation rates, improved reading scores, improved math scores, increasing standards, increasing access to the resources the kids need, for us to be going backwards now. And this is something worth fighting for," Obama said at a White House meeting with urban school leaders.

The Education Department said Monday that high school graduation rates for all racial groups have increased, according to data from the 2012-2013 school year. But black, Hispanic, and American Indian students still significantly lag behind their white and Asian/Pacific Islander counterparts.

Previously, the department said the graduation rate had reached a high of 81.4 percent. That means 1 in 5 students overall leaves high school without a diploma.

Among black students, the rate reported was 70.7 percent up from 69 percent a year earlier.

Hispanic students had a rate of 75.2 percent, which was up from 73 percent a year earlier.

American Indian students had a rate of 69.7 percent up from 67 percent.

Asian/Pacific Islander students had a rate of 88.7 percent, which was up from 88 percent.

Obama, California school officials talk education goals

WASHINGTON President Barack Obama on Monday found an ally in Fresno Unified School District Superintendent Michael Hanson.

During an hour-long meeting, Obama pitched his education priorities to Hanson and other superintendents. For the school leaders and administration officials now facing some high-stakes legislative struggles, the White House session came at a key time.

We were reinforcing to him the importance of his continued support, Hanson said, adding that Obamas articulated vision for what goes on in public schools gives us the room to do this very difficult work.

Hanson is a member of the executive committee of the Council of Great City Schools, which represents 67 districts serving cities that include Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The late morning meeting in the White Houses Roosevelt Room came as part of the Councils annual legislative conference, a four-day program that features speeches, receptions and briefings. Politically, the timing was apt, as the Republican-controlled Congress and the Democratic White House are now maneuvering for position across several fronts.

This is a pretty polarized city, Hanson said, standing on the driveway outside the West Wing of the White House. You can feel it when you come here.

This week, the polarization will intensify when House and Senate budget committees unveil budget resolutions that spell out Republican priorities on everything from education to defense. The House committee members include Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., a staunch conservative whose district stretches from Fresno County in the south to Amador County in the north.

Separately, House GOP leaders have been struggling to pass a bill reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The bill, dubbed the No Child Left Behind Act during the George W. Bush administration, has roiled conservatives critical of the federal governments role in education, but it has also worried educators who fear funds will be diverted away from the neediest.

After failing to rally a majority on Feb. 27, Republican leaders pulled the bill from the House floor and have not yet rescheduled a vote. The Obama administration has warned that the president would veto the bill, now renamed the Student Success Act.

We are making too much progress now in terms of graduation rates, improved reading scores, improved math scores, increasing standards, increasing access to the resources the kids need for us to be going backwards now, Obama said following the meeting with superintendents.
