Iran terrorist group announces support for IS

Tehran, Dec 29 (IANS): The anti-Iran terrorist group, Mujahedin-e Khalq Organisation (MKO), has openly expressed support for the Islamic State (IS) militants and their acts of terror in a clear indication of its wrath over Iran-Iraq cooperation against the group.

In a statement, the MKO said any measure against IS would be a blatant violation of the UN Security Council's agreements, a Press TV report Monday quoted Iran's official news agency, IRNA.

The terrorist organisation also called for an immediate end to the moves against the IS militants.

The statement, without making any reference to the all-out cooperation among Iraqi Sunnis, tribes and army in the anti-IS fight, claimed that cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in the battle against the IS terrorist group pursues anti-Sunni agendas.

The IS terrorists control some parts of Syria and Iraq. They are engaged in crimes against humanity.

Earlier this month, Press TV reported that Israel was training the MKO terrorists in Jordan along the border with Saudi Arabia in order to carry out acts of terror inside Iran and neighbouring Iraq.

"The MKO terrorists are undergoing training on how to conduct terrorist operations in Iran and Iraq and are also receiving technical as well as information technology (IT) training from Israeli agents, said a source on condition of anonymity.

The MKO fled Iran to Iraq in 1986, where it enjoyed the support of Iraq's executed dictator, Saddam Hussein, and set up its camp near the Iranian border.

The group is also known to have cooperated with Saddam Hussein in suppressing the 1991 uprisings in southern Iraq and carrying out the massacre of Iraqi Kurds, report said.

The MKO has carried out numerous acts of violence against Iranian civilians and government officials.

Iran tests suicide drone

TEHRAN, Iran Irans army said Saturday it has deployed a suicide drone for the first time in massive ongoing military drills near the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.

Gen. Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, the armys chief commander of ground forces, described the unmanned aircraft as a mobile bomb, according to state media, which said the aerial device is designed to strike air, ground, and naval targets.

He did not provide the name of the drone. The conservative Kayhan daily referred to it as the Yasir, while an online news website called it the Raad. Officials could not be reached for comment.

The Yasir drone, first unveiled last year, can fly for up to 10 hours and carry out 360-degree imaging, officials said at the time. Western military analysts say the Yasir is a modified version of the American ScanEagle drone. Iran said in December 2012 that it had seized at least three Boeing-designed ScanEagle drones after they allegedly violated its airspace over the Persian Gulf.

Iran is believed to have produced its own remotely piloted suicide drone, the Raad-85, which is designed to crash into targets and set off its warhead. (AP)

Iran's army testing suicide drone to be used as 'mobile bomb'

TEHRAN, Iran Iran's army said Saturday it has deployed a suicide drone for the first time in massive ongoing military drills near the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.

Iran is believed to have produced its own remotely piloted suicide drone, the Raad-85, which is designed to crash into targets and set off its warhead.

The six-day military exercise is being carried out over 527,000 square kilometers (850,000 square miles) near the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes.

Iran frequently touts advances in its homegrown aerospace industries. It says its most advanced drone, the Shahed-129, can reach much of the Middle East, including Israel. The drone is said to have a range of 1,050 miles and a 24-hour flight capability, and can carry eight bombs or missiles capable of hitting both stationary and moving targets.
