CHICAGO, July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Google AdWords expert Perry Marshall offers a free tool that judges the viability of advertising on Google's search engine vs. millions of websites in Google's Display Network. The tool asks ten simple questions and immediately returns an instant result. It requires no contact information. Scores vary widely:
-A local plumber mostly gets calls when there's an emergency; interrupting people at other times seldom works. His score: Search = 9, Display = 3.4
-Home school parents do not actively search for home school management software, but like it when they see it. For that product, Display Network is much more effective than search. Score: Search = 4.8, Display = 8.7.
The tool adds a comment: "Search is likely to be number four, five or six in your list of traffic sources." This indicates that advertising channels outside of Google, such as email, are likely to be even better.
-Many people actively search for Nutritional supplements, but "interrupt" driven advertising works almost equally well. Score: Search = 7.2, Display = 6.8.
The tool also generates a Competition Index, gauging the intensity of rival sites and difficulty of differentiating from competitors. Users can also request an in depth report detailing their score. It explains specific success factors in Pay Per Click advertising. The custom report is also free.
