Abortion enthusiasts have been telling so many lies since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week, its hard to take them seriously.

Now President Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are salivating at the prospect that abortion is on the ballot, as opposed to inflation, crime, border security and all the issues that have the Democrats under water and without a viable policy.

But abortion may not be the electoral game-changer they hope for, and largely thats because the lies they tell themselves and their supporters have caused them to lose touch with the reality of America.

Women caring for their health is the presidents euphemism for abortion.

It was a sad day and a tragic error, said Biden, when the Supreme Court returned the issue to the voters and their elected state representatives to decide. He vowed to do everything in my power to preserve abortion.

Pelosi called the decision outrageous and criminalizing reproductive freedom, another euphemism which tries to hide the death element of abortion.

Like Biden, her unequivocal support for abortion is wildly at odds with Catholic teaching and her ostentatious religiosity.

Im very Catholic, devout, practicing, she has declared.

But San Franciscos Catholic archbishop, Salvatore J. Cordileone, last month rebuked Pelosi over her vocal support for abortion, and declared she would be denied Communion.

Biden has escaped accountability for his abortion advocacy. I guess we have to take his word for it that Pope Francis told him in April that he was a good Catholic and should continue receiving Communion.

But the Vatican is all for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, issuing a statement praising the decision last week, and the pope explicitly has called abortion murder, likening it to hiring a hit man.

Polls show almost nine in 10 Americans oppose Biden and Pelosis extreme position of abortion on demand until birth.

A Trafalgar Group poll last month showed less than 12% of Americans support abortions to birth, while 57% believe abortions should be banned once an unborn babys heartbeat can be detected at about six weeks. Even among Democrats, only 19% think that abortion should be legal until birth.

Scientific advances showing us detailed ultrasound photos inside the womb, and allowing premature babies to survive at 25 weeks, have changed the equation. Most Americans want reasonable restrictions with compassionate exceptions to safeguard the mothers life and in the cases of rape and incest which Planned Parenthoods own research arm, the Guttmacher Institute, says is less than 1% of abortions.

Whats more, a Rasmussen poll last month showed 48% of voters said they would approve of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, and 45% would disapprove. Among Democratic voters, 33% said they would approve.

And a Fox News poll found 54% of voters supported state laws banning abortion at 15 weeks, such as in Mississippi, where the Supreme Court case originated.

If they are so opposed to the Supreme Court decision, why dont Democrats simply pass a law to codify Roe v. Wade, since they control Washington?

Well, they tried it already with the Womens Health Protection Act, and failed. The Senate voted 49-51 against the bill, which would have overridden state abortion laws, well short of the 60 votes needed. The problem, as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez complains, is that members of their own party are pro-life.

Biden claims America has become an outlier, when actually it was an outlier under Roe, since only five other countries including China and North Korea allow abortion until the moment of birth.

The truth is Democrats strayed too far from public opinion. Where once the phrase safe, legal and rare summed up a palatable position for Democrats, they allowed extremists to push it to abortion any time for any reason, including for sex selection and to get rid of Down syndrome babies, which is opposed by 70% of Americans, according to a Knights of Columbus survey last year.

In Mississippi, it wasnt pro-life activists but an abortion clinic that went to court to overturn the state law banning abortions after 15 weeks, except in the case of a mothers life being threatened. Its their own fault, and Harry Reids filibuster reform also played a role.

Wrong. The Constitution mentions nothing about abortion. All the Supreme Court did was send abortion regulation back to the states, where it always belonged. Abortion remains available, but there are now 50 abortion laws. All 13 states with so-called trigger laws allow abortions to save the life of the mother.

As for the slippery slope which Pelosi & Co. are fearmongering about, Justice Samuel Alito explicitly wrote that nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion, such as contraception and gay marriage.

While Justice Clarence Thomas wrote separately that other substantive precedents decided by the court on due process should be re-examined, he just says they should be based on other constitutional provisions. In any case, no other justice agreed.

Hardly. They should offer similar lump sums to pregnant employees who keep their babies.

But let the woke corporates serve as an inspiration for Republicans to enact Hungarian-style policies, which reward mothers and fathers handsomely for having children and encourage them to have lots more.

They dont have to collude, they dont have to form a cartel, they dont have to be monopolists, Stanford University economist Roger Noll said about oil refiners in California a few years back. All they have to do is take advantage of the crazy rules.

The crazy rules are the environmental regulations and clean fuel mandates imposed by state and federal lawmakers. The regulations crowd out smaller competitors, drive consolidation, and keep out new entrants.

If that sounds bad to you, it sounds great to the large refiners. Make no mistake about it, said Thomas OMalley, a refinery executive who lobbied for stricter clean fuel rules. "The more stringent you make specifications, those become barriers to entry. Strong companies would have an advantage.

We are today reaping the bitter fruit of environmental regulations that have driven massive consolidation in the refining industry. President Joe Biden now claims to be upset about that.

The Biden administration scolded oil refiners. While mostly blaming Vladimir Putin for high gas prices, he said, Historically high refinery profit margins are worsening that pain.

Biden isnt wrong that refineries are a bottleneck on fuel production and that refinery capacity has been higher in the past.

Reduced refinery capacity, notes liberal journalist David Dayen at the American Prospect, in large part triggered by industry consolidation, has been a major factor in high gas prices.

But what is behind that industry consolidation? Barriers to entry, especially regulations that drive out small players and protect the large incumbents from competition. These are exactly the sort of barriers to entry that the Biden administration continues to support that Joe Biden has spent his career erecting.

One small example is the federal ethanol mandate. Although it allows exemptions for small oil refiners, the Biden administration regularly denies applications for such exemptions he denied 65 such petitions just this winter.

Had Biden set out explicitly to cause refinery consolidation, he probably wouldnt have governed any differently as a senator or as president. Now, hes pretending to be upset that this concentrated industry is protected from competition and has high costs and high profits.

She ispumping up Democrats for passing the financial aid package that kept many families afloat through the pandemic.

Calling herself a straight, white, Christian, married, suburban mom, McMorrow stoodinthe state Capitol and called out the GOP attack as absolute nonsense.

Speaking with fire in her voice, she said: I want every child in this state to feel seen, heard and supported, not marginalized and targeted because they are not straight, white and Christian.

This is the model for Clinton.

The U.S. needsleaders who endeavor to bring out the best in us, not the worst, who dont play to our fears, but help usaddress them,Clintonsaidin Britain.

In her Financial Times interview, Clinton specifically warned Democrats not to fall victim to Republicanclaims that Democrats wantto defund the police.

It doesnt even pass the common-sense politics test not to believe that[police are necessary,andshouldbe accountable], sheexplained, adding politics should be the art of addition not subtraction.

Connecticut Democrats are hoping anger over the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will translate into votes, but will the issue make a difference at the ballot box?

On Monday, Gov. Ned Lamont launched a campaign adpromising to keep abortion legal and accessible. He also took a swing at his Republican opponent, Bob Stefanowski.

"I think it's top of mind, said Lamont. People want to know where you stand. Are you going to call for restrictions on Roe v. Wade or not?"

Stefanowski says abortion is a non-issue in Connecticut because it's codified in state law although he does support adding a parental consent requirement for kids under 16.

"Democrats are going to want to do a lot of fear mongering on this issue in Connecticut. It's part of the law, it's not going to change, said Stefanowski. They don't want to talk about inflation, they don't want to talk about gas prices."

So are abortion rights really at risk in Connecticut?

In the General Assembly, many Republicans are pro-choice. In fact, Stefanowski's running mate, Rep. Laura Devlin, recently voted to expand abortion access. But the state Senate president has a warning.

"The Republican party itself is becoming more and more conservative, said state Sen. Martin Looney (D-New Haven). So I don't know whether all those more moderate Republicans are likely to continue in office."

This year's Republican primary for U.S. Senate could be a litmus test. Themis Klarides, who received the party endorsement, is vocally pro-choice. But her two opponents, Leora Levy and Peter Lumaj, oppose abortion.

But with the November elections four months away, will abortion still motivate voters? Some political analysts think inflation will remain the dominant focus.

"You know, there's only so much voters can do, said Dr. Jonathan Wharton with Southern Connecticut State University. Because this is really a Supreme Court decision that was handed down, so it's not like the voters can decide on the judges."

(The Hill) Justice Clarence Thomas concurrent opinion calling on the Supreme Court to reconsider landmark cases protecting access to contraceptives and LGBTQ rights is striking fear among Democrats, with many worried about how far the conservative court will go after it took the extraordinary step of reversing Roe v. Wade.

In his concurring opinion to Fridays ruling, Thomas wrote that in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Courts substantive due process precedents, arguing that the Constitutions Due Process Clause did not secure a right to abortion or any other substantive rights.

Fridays majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito said Roe should be reversed because the right to an abortion is not protected by the Due Process Clause in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

Thomas made it crystal clear exactly what rights he was considering by naming cases explicitly, listing Griswold v. Connecticut, the 1965 decision that allowed married couples to access contraceptives; Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 case that barred states from outlawing consensual gay sex, and Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 ruling that made same-sex marriage a constitutional right.

Alito, writing for the courts majority, wrote that in overturning Roe v. Wade, the court was not advocating for changing those other rulings.

But critics of the court on the left have noted that few thought Roe v. Wade itself was in jeopardy five years ago and suggest it is unclear how a future conservative court will move forward.

Democrats have highlighted the Thomas concurrent opinion, arguing it makes clear his own plans.

If you read what is very clear one of the Justices had his own statement: its about contraception, in vitro fertilization, family planning, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said at a Friday press availability where she denounced the ruling. That is all what will spring from their decision that they made today.

The courts liberal justices offered a similar warning.

No one should be confident that this majority is done with its work, Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan wrote in a joint dissent.

The rightRoeandCaseyrecognized does not stand alone. To the contrary, the Court has linked it for decades to other settled freedoms involving bodily integrity, familial relationships, and procreation, they added.

The swift changes to American life from Fridays decision have been stunning to many.

As of Friday, nine states had banned abortion, according to theGuttmacher Institute.

On Sunday, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, said she would move to ban abortion pills delivered online. Other states are expected to make similar moves.

Thomas, who was nominated by President George H. W. Bush more than 30 years ago and isconsideredby some to be the most conservative justice on the bench, in his concurrent said the court must correct the error of the three landmark cases he mentioned.

Because any substantive due process decision is demonstrably erroneous, we have a duty to correct the error established in those precedents, he wrote.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), chairman of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, said the current moment is a dangerous time for individuals who hold human rights and civil liberties in high regard.

They are taking away rights that people in this country enjoyed. And I think anyone who cares about any marginalized community, like the LGBTQ community, has to be alarmed at both the Supreme Courts willingness to complete[ly] disrupt, disregard precedent, and secondly, to remove basic fundamental rights that citizens of this country have enjoyed for decades, he said. So this is a very dangerous time for people who care about human rights and civil liberties.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), in an interview withMSNBCoutside the Supreme Court on Saturday, said the ruling overturning Roe is part of extremist Republicans long-term agenda.

This is part of a long-term agenda of the far-right extremist Republicans to begin to erode our democratic rights starting with, of course, our right to reproductive freedom and our personal liberties, Lee, a vice chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, said.

Theyre not gonna stop there, whats next? Same-sex marriage. Whats next? Voting rights, could be, banning interracial marriages. Who knows where theyre going, she added.

Democrats have hoped that outrage with the decision on Roe v. Wade and fear of rights the court might go after next could energize their voters ahead of this falls midterm elections.

Republicans, who have been feeling confident about winning back the House majority and quite possibly the Senate, believe the focus of voters will remain on inflation and high gas prices.

But there have been statements from the right indicating a wariness of how the courts direction might reverberate.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday said Alito had set the right tone, implicitly pushing back at the message from. Thomas.

He said nothing in this decision puts those cases at risk, Graham said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, referring to the cases mentioned by Thomas.

The reason he decided that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided is because it deals with the potential for life, the senator said.

These other privacy issues like contraception do not deal with the potential for life, the senator said. He made a distinction between same-sex marriage and contraception, which I think will win the day over time.
