Reverend Al Sharpton called for an emergency meeting of his diversity task force Thursday after the Academy Awards nominated only white actors.

The lack of diversity in todays Oscar nominations is appalling, and while it is good that Selma was nominated for Best Picture, its ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations, Sharpton said in a statement. With all of the talent in 'Selma' and other Black movies this year, it is hard to believe that we have less diversity in the nominations today than in recent history.

The outspoken Sharpton said he will meet next week with allies to discuss "potential actions" ahead or during the Feb. 22 award show.

The Academy's female African American president Cheryl Isaac Burke said she does not believe there is a diversity problem at the Oscars.

"No, not at all," she told Vulture when asked about this year's list of nominees. "The good news is that the wealth of talent is there, and it's being discussed, and it's helpful so much for talent whether in front of the camera or behind the camera to have this recognition, to have this period of time where there is a lot of publicity, a lot of chitter-chatter."

According to the LA Times, of the 6,028 Academy Award voters 93 percent are white and76 male are male. Halle Berry is the only African American female to win Best Actress. Four African American male actors have taken home an Oscar.T.J. Martin is the only African American to win Best Director.

"I think it's ridiculous, it's absurd, it's appalling that not only African Americans, Hispanic Americans and the whole artistic creative community wouldn't be represented at the Oscars," The Blaze's Amy Holmes told FOX News, noting that women were also shut out of the director and screenwriter categories.

But Democratic Party political pollster Bernard Whitman told FOX News that he does not think the lack of African American nominees means Academy members are racist.

"The Academy membership could be a little bit out of touch with what is current and popular in today's society, but having said that I think the fact that there are no African Americans nominated...is more of an anomaly than a type of systemic racism on the part of the Academy," Whitman said.

The Rev. Al Sharpton announced he was holding an emergency meeting to discuss Hollywoods all-white list of Oscar nominees and talk about possible action against the Academy Awards powers-who-be.

The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, he said in a statement reported by Business Insider. The higher you get, the whiter it gets. I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards.

The awards ceremony has only nominated an all-white list of names for best actor, best actress and best director only once before in the last 20 years, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Mr. Sharpton gave kudos to the judges for nominating Selma for best picture, but then he decried the lack of diversity in the other categories.

The two most grating voices in the dispute over NYPD policies are feeling the wrath of voters.

The Rev. Al Sharpton and police union leader Patrick Lynch got hammered Thursday in the first poll on police-community relations since the murder of two cops last month.

The Quinnipiac University poll found only 29 percent of voters view Sharpton favorably, while 53 percent give him a thumbs-down.

It was Sharptons worst showing in the poll in 18 months.

And for the first time, a solid majority of voters said the rabble-rousing rev was a mostly negative force in the city.

Lynch, president of the Patromens Benevolent Association, fared even worse, with only 18 percent of voters giving him a positive score, while 39 percent rated him negatively.

Voters by large margins said it was wrong for cops to turn their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio. Lynch had refused to condemn the act.

They also criticized Lynch for saying the mayor had blood on his hands in the Dec. 20 shooting deaths of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

Its an incongruous pairing, but Lynch and Rev. Al Sharpton, the outspoken police critic, share in the negative judgments of New Yorkers, said pollster Maurice Carroll.

Despite their feelings about the leaders at the forefront of tensions over NYPD policies, voters expressed strong support for the cops themselves especially those who patrol their own neighborhoods.

In response to the whitest Oscar nominations in 17 years, Al Sharpton has issued a statement expressing his disappointment in the nominations and calling for a meeting to address the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

The lack of diversity in todays Oscar nominations is appalling, and while it is good that Selma was nominated for Best Picture, its ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations, Sharpton said in a statement. With all of the talent in Selma and other Black movies this year, it is hard to believe that we have less diversity in the nominations today than in recent history.

Repeating a line he delivered to a TMZ reporter last month, Sharpton added, The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets.

Sharpton also said he has called an emergency meeting with his task force in Hollywood early next week to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards.

The MSNBC host and head of the National Action Network convened similar meetings in December to address racially-charged comments made by Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin in leaked emails.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Sharpton invoked the killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner to emphasize why he felt the lack of nominations for black actors was so outrageous.

In the time of Staten Island and Ferguson, to have one of the most shutout Oscar nights in recent memory is something that is incongruous, he said. The only category were well represented is in the best picture nomination and its a movie about blacks being shut out of society. And now were shut out of Hollywood.

Selma received nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Song, but director Ava DuVernay and actor David Oyelowo were both snubbed by the Academy.
