Trust the Rev. Al Sharpton to go for the old bait-and-switch when he thinks he might have to answer for his positions.
Sharpton is now in Britain at the venerable Oxford Union for a Friday night debate on this proposition: This House believes the United States is institutionally Racist.
In some ways, his appearance there is fitting. This is the same place where British students in 1933 so infamously voted for the motion, This house will in no circumstances fight for its King and Country.
In accepting the invitation, Sharpton was to argue in favor of the proposition about US racism alongside Black Panther leader Aaron Dixon and liberal blogger Mychal Denzel Smith.
Lining up against the opposition will be Fox News and Breitbart contributor David Webb, conservative commentator Joe Hicks, who are also black, and BBC radio host Charlie Wolf.
But it turns out Sharpton doesnt want a real debate. So instead of taking his place in the traditional format, he has apparently persuaded the Oxford Union to let him give a 20-minute speech.
Though he must take some questions from the audience and the other panelists, it definitely wont be the full-throated debate Oxford is famous for.
Thats our Sharpton.
Once again, he gets it all on his terms. He upends the classic format of the Oxford debate, places himself on a different level from the other participants and minimizes the danger hell be exposed by the other debaters for the charlatan he is: someone who profits from portraying US race relations in the worst possible light.
Pity the Oxford Union went along with it.

The Rev. Al Sharpton not normally known for his support of conservatives and their causes made an exception for Ted Cruz and his well-reported State of the Union speech slip-up, telling the Texas senator not to worry, that it happens, he said.
Perhaps its because Mr. Sharpton has frequent teleprompter lapses during his own MSNBC televised remarks, Mediaite reported.
Regardless, Mr. Sharpton said: Dont worry, senator, trust me, it happens. We all know Ive had my share of teleprompter issues.
Mr. Cruz attempted to record some off-the-cuff responses to President Obamas State of the Union address, but stopped halfway through and asked for a redo. The version that contained his statement, meh, lemme start over was scrubbed from YouTube but only after it made a media splash.
