Afghanistan attack: Gunmen killed

New Delhi, May 23 : All the four gunmen, who attacked the Indian Consulate in in Afghanistan's Herat city with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, were killed on Friday.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin informed that no diplomatic staff was injured in the attack that began at 3.25 am.
"Update! 4 attackers killed. Staff at r Consulate in Herat #Afghanistan safe. Morale high," Akbaruddin posted in Twitter.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai had a telephonic conversation regarding the attack.
"PM designate @narendramodi & Prez Karzai of #Afghanistan have a telephone conversation regarding attack on #India's Consulate in Herat," Akbaruddin tweeted.
Modi thanked the Afghanistan President for his support.
"PM desig @narendramodi thanks Prez Karzai of #Afghanistan for efforts of Afghan forces in thwarting attack on #India's Consulate in Herat," Akhbaruddin tweeted.
"Prez Karzai of #Afghanistan calls PM designate @narendramodi assures that #Afghanistan will do all to protect #India's Missions there," he said.
Modi also called India's Ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha and condemned the attack.
