Black Lives Matter Memphis Want Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich To Resign – Local Memphis

MEMPHIS, TENN (localmemphis.com) - Members of Black Lives Matter Memphis responded to Tuesday's verdict by calling for Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich to resign.

Emotions ran high after the judge sentenced Treveno Campbell to forty years in prison.

"I feel like the real killer is in the building and not behind bars," said Trina Campbell, Campbell's mother.

"We stand in solidarity with Treveno Campbell's family, and we offer our deepest condolences to the Martoiya Lang family. But what happened here today is an injustice," said Pamela Moses, a spokesperson for Black Lives Matter Memphis.

An injustice Moses claims rests almost entirely on Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich.

"Trevino is losing his life is because of an overzealous DistrictAttorney who manipulated the grand jury process by over charging him with first-degree murder," Moses said.

Moses claims Weirich should have offered Campbell a plea deal.

"It's also clear that the no deals DistrictAttorneycuts deals for people, but those who are innocent like Treveno don't get a break because she likes the hype," Moses said.

Last week, Weirich announced she was privately reprimanded in another case by the state board that oversees attorneys in part for not turning over evidence to the defense.

Weirich is traveling out of town and has not responded to our request for comment.

Black Lives Matter Memphis is expected to hold another news conference later this week
