Emmanuel Macron’s plan to tackle migrant crisis crushed by his OWN government – Express.co.uk

GETTY

European Union leaders were left reeling when the French president unveiled designs to have France solve the mass migration issue between Libya and Italy.

Without consultation with Italy the main destination for African migrants - Mr Macron announced he would open refugee camps in migrant hotspots in Africa to try and allocate genuine refugees before they make the deadly journey across the Mediterranean.

He wanted to set up clean and safe camps abroad to end the burden on the EU as thousands arrive every week.

However, undermining Italy infuriated Rome after leaders spent months trying to arrange help and migrant sharing with other EU nations.

Now, the pioneering promise has been slapped down in Paris.

French Interior Minister Grard Collomb said such plans are extremely far off.

He said: That type of initiative cannot be currently considered in Libya, due to the countrys situation.

The minister said France will step up in the fight against migration through illegal channels.

Mr Collomb said instead the government would try to reconcile efficiency with generosity in dealing with asylum requests.

He wants to deal with immigration in a controlled way - taking more in, but slowly.

In 2018 a further 3,500 accommodation places will open for migrants and 4,000 in 2019.

However, Mr Collomb said the process should be managed and not as manic as it has been - despite the number of African migrants living on the streets of Paris.

Immigration laws are under review in France as Mr Collomb said those fleeing war and persecution are welcome in France, but it was time to shut down economic migration.

He said: Our current standards are not as high as what they should be in France.

Mr Collomb said there is a renewed pledge to cooperate with foreign governments to crack down on traffickers, although left out finer details.

Italy’s ultimatum to EU – Eastern Europe must take migrants or we’ll block their cash – Express.co.uk

GETTY

Matteo Renzi said he would use the iron fist to force countries in Eastern Europe to respect the rules as his country takes the brunt of the escalating migrant crisis.

He said: Those who cannot stay in Italy must be accepted in Europe, otherwise we will stop transferring money to countries that do not accept quotas.

The socialist chiefs furious rant comes as Eastern European nations, including Poland and Hungary, continue to refuse to take migrants from Italy under the European Unions migrant quota scheme.

Fed up of paying for members who lack solidarity, Mr Renzi vowed to punish them by cutting their cash.

They currently receive billions of pounds a year from Western nations in what are known as Cohesion Funds - a form of foreign aid designed to bring their economies up to scratch to adopt the euro.

Speaking to to local radio show Radio Anchio, Mr Renzi, who is hoping make a return as PM in the next election, said the migrant crisis "will last twenty years.

He added: But there are three essential things to do: first, to really help them in their countries of origin, which means, as we did, to increase investment in international cooperation; second, ius soli; and third, the limited number on the basis of integration capacity.

In mid-June, the European Commission brought a lawsuit against Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary for refusing to accept refugees and violating EU legislation.

In stark comparison, Italy is grappling with an influx, with UN figures revealing more than 94,000 people have crossed the Mediterranean into the nation so far this year.

And more than 2,300 have died while trying to attempt the perilous crossing.

At its shortest distance, the EU country is a mere 290 miles from the coast of Libya, a largely lawless country which has seen the number of people smugglers rocket.

Given the short distance to the EU from the North African coast, Italy, is dealing with a higher number of migrants on their shores when compared to other countries on the continent, particularly northern Europe.

Rome has pleaded with Brussels and its neighbours for help in dealing with the influx, with many politicians voicing their frustration over what they see as being abandoned to deal with the issue themselves.

Maryland city mulling over idea to let illegal immigrants vote – Fox News

A D.C. suburb in Maryland is considering a plan that would give undocumented immigrants the right to vote, making their city the largest in the Old Line State to do so.

The city, which is home of the University of Marylands main campus and nearly 30,000 residents, is weighing approval of the new measure to let noncitizens cast ballots for mayor and City Council, The Baltimore Sunreported Sunday.

Supporters of the measure say that local elections focus on issues like trash collection, and other municipal services and they are issues that affect residents of the city, regardless of their citizenship status.

These are folks who have a significant stake in our community, and who rely on the facilities in our city, College Park City Councilwoman Christine Nagle, who is sponsoring the measure, said to the newspaper. To me, it just made sense.

Others in the community say that immigrants should not have a say until they have completed the process of becoming a citizen.

"On a personal level, I do not agree that noncitizens should be voting," College Park City Councilwoman Mary C. Cook said before adding that she will listen to her constituents before making a decision.

Jeff Werner, an advocate for tighter immigration restrictions with the advocacy group Help Save Maryland told the newspaper that he felt even more strongly about undocumented immigrants going to the voting booth.

What gives them that privilege? He asked.

A total of 10 municipalities across two counties allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. Voters in Takoma Park, a liberal enclave in Montgomery County, narrowly approved a referendum in making the town one of the first to allow the practice in Maryland.

It was preceded by Barnesville a small town near Sugarloaf Mountain in Montgomery County has allowed noncitizens to vote since 1918 and Somerset, which approved noncitizen voting in 1976.

The number of communities in Maryland adopting the measure has surged in recent months. Hyattsville in Prince Georges County approved immigrant voting just last year, followed by Mount Rainier, also in Prince Georges County.

The College Park proposal like the other municipalities, does not distinguish between legal permanent residents and undocumented immigrants.

Those in favor of the policy say thats by design.

We very intentionally made it so that we did not have questions about citizenship status, said Patrick Paschall, a former member of the Hyattsville council who championed the legislation there said to the Sun. It undermines the premise of noncitizen voting to try to draw a distinction.

Pomona College Offers Free Rides To Illegal Immigrants Paid For By Students – The Daily Caller

The student government of Californias pricey Pomona College announced this weekend that the mandatory $355 annual fee that every student pays will go towards funding a free ridesharing service for illegal immigrants and students from non-traditional households.

Most students who attend the private liberal arts college will not be able to enjoy the benefits of paying the tax, The Claremont Independentfirst reportedon Sunday.

In a newly introduced airport rideshare program for freshmen and transfer students, students who enter the country illegally and those shielded under Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program will be able to enjoy free rides from LAX and Ontario Airport to the campus.

The Associated Students of Pomona College also stated on Facebook that the exclusive service will prioritize students from low-income, first-generation, DACA/undocumented, mixed (immigration) status family, and/or non-traditional family structure backgrounds.

Students who enter through the EB-5 Immigration Investment Program are more well-off than most Americans, as they must first invest $1 million to finance a business in the United States. The move to provide them with a free service has raised questions about the exclusive nature of the program.

The program will also give free rides to students from non-traditional family structure backgrounds, as if having two dads is a disability worthy of special treatment. The term is often used to describe gay or lesbian couples.

Please respect this and your future classmates needs and experiences, the post concluded, adding that future rideshares will be open to all students in the future. The student government did not respond to requests for clarification from students on Facebook.

Pomona College students responding to the news informed The Claremont Independent that they did not understand why certain groups of people were given priority with the ridesharing service over others, as they were in no way financially incapable of paying for it like everyone else.

The application form for free rideshares was first posted to the colleges Class of 2012 Facebook page before it was removed. Pomona Colleges ASPC President Maria Vides did not respond to questions from the publication.

Pomona College is a founding member of the consortium of Claremont Colleges with yearly fees of$67,225.

Mike Pence Considering Running for President in 1820 – The New Yorker (satire)

WASHINGTON ( The Borowitz Report )Vice-President Mike Pence is seriously considering running for President in 1820, various sources confirmed over the weekend.

According to several prominent Republican donors, Pence is already laying the groundwork for such a campaign, outlining what he believes are the most serious challenges facing 1820 America.

In a conference call with donors last week, Pence reportedly said that, as President, his No. 1 priority would be to repeal and replace the Bill of Rights.

He offered a sneak preview of a potential 1820 stump speech, in which he unleashed a brutal attack on the Bill of Rights author, James Madison, and called for the development of the telegraph key.

According to Harland Dorrinson, a donor who was on the conference call, Mike believes hes the right man to bring America into the nineteenth century, just like he did for Indiana.

But minutes after the rumors were reported, the Vice-President pushed back, putting quill to parchment to call the reports bunkum and balderdash.

America already has the perfect man to lead it in 1820, and that man is Donald J. Trump, Pence wrote.

In Washington, some political insiders also threw cold water on the Pence-in-1820 talk, arguing that the timing was not right. Pences best shot was 1620, one said.
