They call themselves Generation Identity. Made up of mainly 20-something tech-savvy members, the Identitarian movement has been described as the hipster right. Fiercely anti-immigration and anti-Muslim, its aim is to stop mass migration to Europe.

G20 ‘honored’ Turkey’s role in managing migrant crisis, Merkel says – Daily Sabah

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed Saturday the gathering at the G20 summit "honored" Turkey's role in managing the migrant crisis driven by Syria's civil war and other conflicts, adding that President Recep Tayyip Erdoan had engaged in the talks.

"Turkey and President [Recep Tayyip] Erdooan showed a lot of commitment. He was very much engaged on the whole agenda of the summit and gave his contribution," Merkel told a news conference at the end of the two-day summit in Hamburg.

"We also paid tribute to Turkey's efforts for the refugees, and he also pointed out these efforts again during the discussion round on migration," she added.

Merkel recalled that she and Erdoan held a bilateral meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the summit, where they discussed recent political disagreements between the two countries.

"This meeting has shown that we have profound differences," she said, and stressed that they had openly discussed these differences, rather than "sweeping them under the carpet".

Relations between Turkey and Germany first became strained when local authorities canceled public appearances of Turkish ministers and government officials campaigning ahead of the April 16 referendum in several different German towns and cities. Officials based the cancellations on poor excuses such as inadequate parking lots and security concerns; however they allowed no-campaigners and PKK sympathizers to rally.

Other disputes center on Germany's decision to withdraw its troops from the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey and on German-Turkish journalist Deniz Ycel, who was imprisoned by Turkey on terror charges earlier this year.

Turkey did not allow German lawmakers to visit their soldiers stationed at Incirlik, due to controversial statements, mostly made by lawmakers from the socialist Die Linke party (The Left) who publicly announced their support to the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and the U.S.

Ahead of parliamentary elections in September, Angela Merkel's coalition partner, the Social Democratic Party (SPD), took a surprise decision and demanded withdrawing German soldiers from ncirlik, in protest to Turkey's stance.

The latest dispute came up when German opposed to Erdoan's official request to hold an event to address Turkish citizens living in Germany on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

Last Friday, Berlin officially banned representatives of foreign governments from campaigning on German soil within three months of polls in their county, dpa said.

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Martin Schaefer also announced that government representatives from within the European Union were excluded from the ban, and added that the new rule was communicated to all foreign embassies in Berlin.

On the eve of the summit, Erdoan warned that Germany was "committing political suicide", by refusing to let him address members of the large Turkish community in the country.

"Germany must correct this error," Erdoan said in an interview with weekly magazine Die Zeit, arguing that "he could not be silenced".

Caribbean Currents: Is taxing illegal immigrants before citizenship fair? – The Philadelphia Tribune

Were you aware that many illegal immigrants pay millions of dollars in taxes to our government each year through payroll deduction? According to a CNN report, out of the nearly 11.1 million undocumented immigrants estimated to be living in the U.S., the information that they gathered from Pew Research showed that there were about 8 million in the workforce in 2014. Nearly half, or 3.4 million, of those workers paid social security taxes, according to 2014 estimates from the Social Security Administration. And while the agency doesnt have a figure for how much this group paid in taxes that year, it said that unauthorized immigrant workers and their employers contributed $13 billion in payroll taxes in 2010, its most current estimate.

In a documentary hosted by Charles Barclay which aired on TNT cable network recently, he interviewed a Hispanic family where the father held down two full-time jobs for many years. Taxes were taken out of both of his paychecks just like any normal American; federal taxes like Social Security, state taxes, unemployment taxes, etc. The dad pointed out that he does not have a social security number but he was given a Tax Identification Number to pay his taxes. This same person cannot collect any benefits from the government without a social security number. I found that fact very interesting.

These immigrant families come to the United States because they are trying to escape political and economic oppression in their country. They want a better life for their family and will risk coming here as an illegal immigrant to do so. It costs money and takes years to apply for a green card to come to the United States, money that a lot of these people dont have to get through the process. And those who do save the money, get to a certain point in the process and are turned away only to have to save more money to re-apply. If you are from another country, you know it can be a vicious cycle.

These illegal immigrants pay into the system and they are helping to sustain Social Security. Some Americans are ready for them to be drop-kicked back into their country. Isnt it amazing that the government can somehow issue a Tax Identification Number for these people to pay their taxes but they cannot work with them to become naturalized citizens or permanent residents?

Michelle (who wishes to go only by her first name) is originally from Jamaica. She said illegal immigrants who pay into the system through their taxes should be giving back to the system. She explained that from her understanding of the process, the Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure that people including unauthorized immigrants pay taxes even if they do not have a social security number and regardless of their immigration status. ITINs allow the IRS to bring in billions of dollars the federal government otherwise would have no way of collecting.

Many people might question the fairness of an illegal immigrant paying taxes without being able to get the same benefits as a citizen or a permanent resident, she said. This becomes an interesting question to ponder. From my perspective it is fair. As the daughter of an immigrant that came to American legally, I know all of the sacrifices that they had to make to come into this country the correct way. While I dont agree with some of the deportation practices, I do think that withholding certain benefits until an immigrant has the correct legal status is fair. I certainly think having to pay taxes and not getting certain benefits is used as a deterrent for individuals to work toward becoming legal and not remain in this country as illegal immigrant workers. Bottom line is, if you come into this country legally, you should be entitled to receive more benefits than those who chose to enter illegally, she said.

Michelle makes some very good points but it still tears me up to hear these original Americans (who evidently do not have family members who were immigrants to this country) shouting, go back where you came from. If they go back through their family history, they more than likely will find an illegal immigrant or two or maybe even three. Why dont they go back where they came from?

Have a little compassion for your fellow man. You all would do the same thing. That is why people came up with the expression, walk a mile in my shoes.

Mike Pence mocked en masse as ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ photo from NASA …

Vice President Mike Pence broke the rules during a tour of NASAs Kennedy Space Center on Thursday and the internet isnt ignoring it.

Mr. Pence was touring the facility with Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican, when Reuters photographer Mike Brown captured the vice president blatantly disregarding a prominently displayed DO NOT TOUCH sign.

The image of Mr. Pence placing his hand on equipment labeled critical space flight hardware mere inches from the warning sign surfaced online late Thursday and instantly went viral.

The photograph exploded on internet forums like Reddit and 4Chan where visitors raced to make comical mock-ups of the image, and a tweet containing the original snapshot shared by Twitter user Mike Rundle on Thursday was retweeted nearly 9,000 times by Friday afternoon in addition to garnering hundreds of reactions.

New rule: you touch the spacecraft, you go with it, responded astrophysicist Katie Mack.

When youre a star they let you do it, tweeted space author Jason Major, a likely reference to Donald Trumps comment about grabbing womens genitals in a 2005 Access Hollywood tape that was leaked before last years presidential election.

Mr. Pence eventually joined in on the fun Friday afternoon, tweeting: Sorry @NASA@MarcoRubio dared me to do it!

It was OK to touch the surface, NASA responded moments later. Those are just day-to-day reminder signs. We were going to clean it anyway. It was an honor to host you!

Mr. Trump last week signed an executive order re-establishing the National Space Council and appointed Mr. Pence as its chairman.

Let us do what our nation has always done since its very founding and beyond: Weve pushed the boundaries on frontiers, not just of territory, but of knowledge, Mr. Pence told Kennedy Center employees Thursday, according to NASA. Weve blazed new trails, and weve astonished the world as weve boldly grasped our future without fear. From this Bridge to Space, our nation will return to the moon, and we will put American boots on the face of Mars.
