Delta Kicked Ann Coulter Out of Her Pre-Reserved Extra …

Delta came onboard Ann Coulters flight tonight and booted her from her pre-assigned extra legroom seat without explanation.

Just when you think it's safe to fly them again, the worst airline in America is STILL: @Delta

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

I suspect David Dao might disagree with that characterization. If she was talking merely about SkyMiles shed have a better case.

Does your union hate you, @Delta? Not really worth spending all that money on planes when @Delta gate staff give your seat away.

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

Apparently she was moved out of extra legroom seats. And shes tall.

She shared with us the flight attendant who insisted she move.

"Why are you taking me out of the extra room seat I specifically booked, @Delta?' Flight attendant: "I don't know. pic.twitter.com/a0M1faZXMu

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

Twitter then exploded with a discussion of whether the flight attendants race had anything to do with her objection to moving (as opposed to, you know, being given less leg room).

.@Delta didnt give my extra room seat to an air marshall or tall person. Heres the woman given my PRE-BOOKED seat: pic.twitter.com/iDNB8xXXOd

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

Ms. Coulter decided to shame the passenger who received her seat. Twitter exploded with a discussion of whether the passenger was a woman of color and that was the real reason Coulter objected to moving (as opposed to, you know, being given less leg room).

Hey @Delta, you mind telling me why it was an "emergency" to move someone else into the seat I had carefully chosen in advance and booked?

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

Ann is also frustrated with the results of her Speedtest App. She wishes that Delta would hurry up with its installs of Gogo 2Ku satellite internet.

Also, @Delta, your wifi doesn't work probably to prevent passengers from tweeting from the plane about how they're being treated.

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

.@JetBlue has free wifi and doesn't wantonly remove passengers from their assigned seats, booked in advance FOR A REASON. @Delta sucks.

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

In which Ann Coulter reveals she uses Seat Guru and Expertflyer Seat Alerts.

So glad I took time investigate the aircraft & PRE-BOOK a specific seat on @Delta, so some woman could waltz at the last min & take my seat.

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017

But at least @Delta was nice @ it, summarily snatching my ticket from my hand & ordering me to move w/o explanation, compensation or apology

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017

Suckiest @Delta moved me from my PRE-BOOKED SEAT & gave it to some woman, not elderly, child, or sick. I have pictures so dont lie, @Delta!

Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017

I understand how this must be extremely frustrating, Ann. I'd like to extend my sincere apology. (cont.) *HJB

After Ann Coulter controversy, UC Berkeley rolls out new policy for inviting speakers – The Mercury News

UC Berkeley has become a violent flashpoint for political demonstrators of all stripes in recent months as right-wing speakers like Ann Coulter have announced plans to speak on the famously left-leaning campus.

And the university has had enough. Buried in the debate has been the schools argument that it cant accommodate every speaker on the exact day student groups want, particularly when the requests come in late, because it has limited venues and security concerns. No more.

Now, Berkeley is rolling out a draft of a policy which when you cut through the wonkiness is an attempt to get ahead of possible disputes in the future and bring certain groups (ahem, Berkeley College Republicans) in line.

College Republicans recently invited the conservative speaker Ben Shapiro to campus in the fall and are framing the invite as yet another fight for free speech. This week, Berkeley told the student organization it hasnt been able to identify an available venue for the day and time the group requested, but still wants to work with students to bring Shapiro to campus while keeping everyone safe. In response, the club released a statement entitled Berkeley blocks Ben Shapiro.

It is important for policies to explicitly address procedures for responding to a new set of security concerns that have recently emerged, reads a note announcing the new draft policy.

From a PR perspective, its not a bad move. It gives the school a politically neutral policy to point at.

But if the draft holds, student groups will have some serious hoops to jump through. Groups will be asked to request space eight weeks or more prior to major events and submit publicity materials to an adviser for review at least five weeks before the event. If university police think an event requires substantial security, the student organization hosting it will have to meet with the UC police at least six weeks ahead of the event.

Of course, the draft doesnt say so, but the implication is clear: The school doesnt want Berkeley College Republicans, or any other group for that matter, springing an event on administrators at the last minute and spinning any issues into a broader controversy.

The policy is set to take effect in January after a period of public comment, which is sure to be contentious.

How Delta Airlines Wrecked American Health Care – Ann Coulter – Townhall

|

Posted: Jul 19, 2017 5:59 PM

I think I've found the core problem with health care in America. And guess what? It involves Delta Airlines!

A few weeks ago, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow was going on and on about a "single insurance provider" that pays for 49 percent of all births, as well as full health care costs of almost 40 percent of all children in the United States. This single "insurer," Maddow said, was the biggest "health insurance provider in the country by a mile."

Maddow was talking about Medicaid, which, of course, is not "insurance" but "welfare."

When we're allowed to call things whatever we want in order to win an argument, there is a total breakdown in democratic politics, fair commerce and social interaction.

Thus, for example, until we get our terms straight, Americans will be forced to keep paying through the nose whenever they try to buy actual health insurance -- because they aren't buying health insurance; they're paying for other people's welfare. Washington will never be able to make it legal to sell real health insurance -- because, if they try, the welfare recipients will mob congressional offices claiming that Republicans are murdering them.

There is no truth in any discussion of Obamacare. Currently, the most persistent lie is the claim that -- according to scoring by the CBO! -- 22 million Americans would "lose" their health insurance under the Senate health care bill. Turn on the TV right now and you'll hear someone saying this.

"A new (CBO) budget score said 22 million more Americans would lose health coverage under this plan ..."

-- Poppy Harlow, CNN, June 27, 2017

"A score from the Congressional Budget Office ... said the Republican bill to kill Obamacare would kick 22 million Americans off their health insurance."

-- Rachel Maddow, June 27, 2017

"The clock is ticking on the Senate health care bill as the CBO estimates 22 million people will lose their insurance."

-- Chris Hayes, June 26, 2017

HELLO? REPUBLICANS? ANY OF YOU GUYS WANT TO REBUT THAT? IT'S PRETTY EASY TO DO!

The actual CBO report says nothing of the sort. People citing the "22 million" figure didn't read past the CBO's headline-grabbing paragraph at the top of the "Summary" page.

In fact, the CBO merely estimates that -- in the year 2026 -- 22 million Americans who otherwise would have been forced by the Obamacare penalty to buy health insurance will choose not to buy insurance once the penalty is gone. By "people thrown off their health insurance," liberals mean: "people who voluntarily decide not to have health insurance." (More accurately, "people who choose not to prove to the government that they have health insurance.")

To use the word "lose" here is absurd. It would be like saying that Nixon ending the draft meant that 50,000 American men would "lose" their military service. The poor lads would be forced to volunteer.

Last year, I chose to end my New York Times subscription. I wasn't "thrown off" the Times' subscriber list. In full possession of the facts, I made an informed decision that I no longer wanted to receive the Times -- just as 22 million Americans (the CBO guesses) will make an informed decision in the year 2026 not to have health insurance, if given that option.

Redefining words like "insurance" and "lose" to mean whatever the speaker wants them to mean makes human conversation impossible. We can still grunt, howl and shiver when it's cold, but we will no longer have the ability to communicate slightly more complex thoughts to one another.

The only solution is for the rest of us to impose a broken windows policy on the truth, demanding it in every walk of life. If liars continually get away with it, their lies will only become more preposterous and more enraging.

Illegal aliens are not "undocumented immigrants." They're not "immigrants" at all. Immigrants wait in line and jump through hoops to be here. They are invited, by us, to come. Illegals cut to the head of the line whenever the mood strikes them, without waiting for an invitation.

When you have a "reserved seat" on Delta, it means you expect to be given that seat and not have your ticket snatched from your hand, then moved to a worse seat -- only to get abused on social media by an imperious corporation for talking about it on Twitter.

(Idea for new Delta motto: "If you like your seat, you can keep your seat!")

This is why the "Seinfeld" exchange with a car rental company struck such a chord. It was about the infuriating result when words like "reservation" have no meaning:

Jerry: I don't understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?

Rental car agent: Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we ran out of cars.

Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation.

Rental car agent: I know why we have reservations.

Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them.

If we're going to have any kind of civil society, we need to insist that words mean what they say.

"Health insurance": A group of people pooling their money every month, in the event that one of them ends up with an expensive medical problem.

"Wall": Wall.

"Republican": Does not raise taxes, propose amnesty or appoint David Hackett Souter to the Supreme Court.

"Seat 3A": The seat you were promised.

Unless the rest of us demand truth, the liars will be emboldened, their lies will snowball and nothing will ever work.

Hot mic catches Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu bashing European Union – Vox

Well, this is embarrassing.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was caught on a hot mic Wednesday morning trashing European Union policies toward Israel during a closed-door meeting with the leaders of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia.

The European Union is the only association of countries in the world that conditions the relations with Israel, that produces technology and every area, on political conditions. The only ones! Nobody does it, Netanyahu ranted to the other leaders.

Hed evidently assumed the conversation was off the record, but it was instead being broadcast, through headphones, to waiting reporters. It was first reported by the Israeli press.

Its crazy. Its actually crazy, he added, apparently referring to EU policies that try to place economic pressure on Israel to leave the occupied Palestinian territories and restart the moribund peace process.

It was a particularly mortifying moment for a leader under fire at home in Israel for allegations of corruption and for cozying up to the increasingly authoritarian, and nativist, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn, who has himself been accused of ignoring a growing anti-Semitism problem in Hungary. Netanyahu was widely criticized in the Israeli press for visiting Hungary on this trip to Europe. He is the first Israeli prime minister to do so since 1989.

Its not about my interest. Im talking about Europes interest, Netanyahu continued. He went on to describe why he saw the need for a change of tack on Israel policy in Europe:

I think Europe has to decide if it wants to live and thrive or if it wants to shrivel and disappear. I am not very politically correct. I know thats a shock to some of you. Its a joke. But the truth is the truth. Both about Europes security and Europes economic future. Both of these concerns mandate a different policy toward Israel.

We are part of the European culture. Europe ends in Israel. East of Israel, there is no more Europe. We have no greater friends than the Christians who support Israel around the world. Not only the evangelists. If I go to Brazil, I'll be greeted there with more enthusiasm than at the Likud party center.

In the few minutes of talk caught by reporters before someone mercifully stopped the transmission, Netanyahu also candidly spoke of Israels shifting US relationship: We had a big problem in the United States, he said, speaking of the Obama administration. I think its different now. Vis--vis Iran, there is a stronger position. The US is more engaged in the region and conducting more bombings [in Syria]. It is a positive thing. I think were okay on ISIS. Were not okay on Iran.

Netanyahu also admitted that Israeli airstrikes have targeted Hezbollah-bound convoys traveling through Syria "dozens and dozens of times."

The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz has helpfully uploaded a chunk of the audio to YouTube, for your listening pleasure:

Its common knowledge that leaders chat more freely behind closed doors than they do before the press. Indeed, such backroom camaraderie can be helpful in building coalitions and addressing world problems. Its unusual, however, to hear a world leader so blatantly seeking to sow divisiveness in a crowd of new friends. Perhaps President Donald Trumps more freewheeling, aggressive approach to foreign policy is rubbing off on his friend Netanyahu.

EU reinforces its strong partnership with Colombia, focussing on rural reforms – EU News

At the heart of this partnership stands the EU's commitment to support the implementation of the Colombian peace agreement, with a particular emphasis on comprehensive rural reforms.

In this context, Commissioner Mimica said: "Restoring rural areas that were affected by the prolonged armed conflict is at the heart of Colombia's peace agreement, and an important priority for our development cooperation with the country. Together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, we will support Colombia's efforts to build lasting peace by strengthening rural communities and agricultural productivity".

Commissioner Mimica, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, will launch a joint initiative for Colombia. Through this initiative, the EU will support the Colombian government institutions that are involved in food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture by means of targeted policy assistance and capacity building. These actions will help to implement the comprehensive rural reform, which is one of the priorities of the Peace Agreement signed in November 2016. The initiative can be considered a significant step forward towards achieving sustainable development in the country, as it focuses in particular on improving the situation of the poor in rural areas; the capacity of the State in conflictaffected areas, and rural development.

Commissioner Mimica will also participate in the fair AgroExpo in Bogota.

Background

The European Union and its Member States have supported peace process in Colombia since the very beginning. Over the last 17 years, the European Union and its Member States have together supported peacebuilding activities in Colombia with over 1.5 billion.

In 2016 upon the signing of the peace agreement between the Colombian authorities and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), EU has reconfirmed its support to peace building through the overall support package of almost 600 million for short- and long term measures. An EU Trust Fund for Colombia was set up to a value of 95 million, with a special focus on economic development and agricultural productivity. So far, 19 EU Member States have contributed to the fund.

Colombia is a key partner for the European Union in Latin America. The EU's relations with Colombia are based on political dialogue, trade cooperation, joint efforts to achieve sustainable development and support to peace-building. Colombia is the EU's fourth most important economic partner in the region and the European Union is Colombia's second biggest trading partner.
