Judge To Rule If Injured Police Officer Can Sue Black Lives Matter – LawOfficer.com

U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson said last week that he will rule within the coming days on whether Black Lives Matter is a movement or an organization, which would mean it can be sued in court, according to the Associated Press.

In November, an unnamed Baton Rouge police officer filed a lawsuit against Black Lives Matter and DeRay Mckesson, an affiliated Baltimore-based activist. The officer said he was badly injured when a thrown rock or piece of concrete hit him in the face at a protest after the death of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old Black man fatally shot by a white officer outside a convenience store in July 2016.

Mckesson was one of about 200 protesters arrested and the lawsuit claims the activist incited violence on behalf of Black Lives Matter at the July 9 protest it said he organized and was in charge of.

Mckessons lawyer, William Gibbens, asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit, argued during Wednesdays hearing that Black Lives Matter is not an organization.

Stevie Wonder: ‘You Cannot Say Black Lives Matter And Then Kill Yourselves’ – LawOfficer.com

Music legend Stevie Wonder took part in a north Minneapolis Conference on Peace on Saturday, focusing on ending youth gun violence.

Fox 9 reports that Wonder focused on the recent verdict of St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez, acquitted Friday in last summers killing of Philando Castile during a traffic stop. He urged the crowd to help bring peace to their communities.

It is in your hands to stop all the killing and all the shooting wherever it might be. Because you cannot say Black Lives Matter and then kill yourselves, Wonder said. Because you know, weve mattered long before it was said. But the way we show all the various of people color matter is by loving each other and doing something about it not just talking about it.

President Trump ‘wants to take down’ special counsel Mueller: top House Democrat – ABC News

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said President Trump wants to "take down" special counsel Robert Mueller who is conducting the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible ties to Trump associates.

The president wants to take down Bob Mueller. His lawyer wants to take down Bob Mueller," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told ABC News' "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz in an exclusive interview Sunday.

"The question is why," Schiff continued. I think the answer is they want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever Bob Mueller comes up with. Theyre essentially engaging in a scorched-earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor.

Schiff was responding to a question from Raddatz on whether Trumps defenders are right to raise concerns that lawyers hired by Mueller have contributed to Democratic political candidates.

Anyone who knows Bob Mueller knows he is choosing the best people to serve on this investigative team -- people that have experience in the issues that he wants to investigate and believes need to be investigated, Schiff said.

President Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration with the Russia investigation, including saying on Twitter on Thursday that the probe is the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!

Raddatz also asked Schiff whether he believed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should recuse himself from overseeing the special counsel investigation after Trump appeared on Friday to refer to Rosenstein in a tweet, which said, I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.

Rosenstein has privately discussed with colleagues the possibility of rescusal, as ABC News has reported.

Schiff said the deputy attorney general would not need to recuse himself unless Mueller concludes that Rod Rosensteins conduct may be culpable in some way, regarding the presidents firing of former FBI director James Comey. Im not saying this is the case But if [Mueller] should conclude that yes, Rod Rosenstein would need to recuse himself.
