Hezbollah says future Israel war could draw fighters from Iran, Iraq, elsewhere – Reuters

BEIRUT Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that a future war waged by Israel against Syria or Lebanon could draw thousands of fighters from countries including Iran and Iraq.

His comments indicated that the same array of Iranian-backed Shi'ite militias - but not countries - currently fighting in Syria in support of President Bashar al-Assad could take part in any future conflict with Israel.

Tensions have risen between Hezbollah and its longtime foe Israel in recent months since Donald Trump became U.S. president with his tough talk against Iran. Israel's air force chief said his country would use all its strength from the start in any new war with Hezbollah.

"The Israeli enemy must know that if an Israeli war is launched against Syria or Lebanon, it is not known that the fighting will remain Lebanese-Israeli, or Syrian-Israeli," Nasrallah said in a televised speech.

"This doesn't mean there are states that might intervene directly. But this could open the way for thousands, even hundreds of thousands of fighters from all over the Arab and Islamic world to participate - from Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan," he said.

Nasrallah has repeatedly warned Israel against attacking Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Shi'ite group is based, and from where it sends fighters to support Assad against insurgents.

Experts on the group say the warnings are part of a policy of deterrence that has also included revealing some of its military capabilities.

Nasrallah said in recent months Hezbollah's rocket arsenal can hit any military target in Israel, which is Lebanon's southern neighbor.

He said any Israeli war with Lebanon or the Gaza Strip, which is run by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, would be "very costly" and that Israel would not be able to win.

Israel has targeted senior Hezbollah commanders in air raids on Syrian soil. But there has been no major confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon since a month-long war between the two sides in 2006.

East Libyan forces claim control of central Benghazi neighborhood – Reuters

BENGHAZI, Libya East Libyan forces said they had gained control on Saturday over one of two remaining districts of Benghazi where they faced armed resistance.

The advance in the central Souq al-Hout neighborhood was the latest step in the slow progress of the self-styled Libyan National Army commanded by Khalifa Haftar, which has been waging a campaign against Islamists and other opponents in Libya's second city for more than three years.

In unusually heavy fighting in Benghazi over the past two days at least 13 men from the LNA were killed and 37 wounded, a medical official said. Many of those who died were killed by land mines, a military source said.

Along with Sabri, Souq al-Hout was one of the final holdouts of the LNA's rivals.

Since 2014, shifting alliances have been battling for power. The LNA and an eastern-based government have rejected a U.N.-backed government that has been in the capital, Tripoli, since last year.

Saturday's advance came after the Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB), an anti-Haftar armed group that includes fighters who retreated from Benghazi and have since tried and failed to advance again toward the city, said it was prepared to disband and be integrated into national security forces.

Black Lives Matter movement failing? Insider calls the …

An activist inside the Black Lives Matter civil rights group called the movement tyrannical in an interview obtained by Buzzfeed and released on Thursday.

In a piece titled What Happened to Black Lives Matter?, an unnamed member of the movement claimed that theres a do what youre told mentality within the group, which can cause divisiveness within the group.

Theres a tyrannical element, the insider added, and seemed to insinuate that some of the groups unity is mostly for show, and issues are often suppressed in order for the movement to appear more sound.

The member, who spoke to Buzzfeed under the promise of anonymity, also claimed that if higher-ups within the movement knew who was spouting information about the groups precarious position, the result could be worse than the social setbacks currently facing the movement.

I think the fallout will be greater than the concerns that are troubling us, the insider admitted. Im surprised people even wanted to do a story like this.

The unnamed member claimed that the two major obstacles facing the BLM movement are a lack of funding as well as leadership support.

Noting that the group is somewhat forced to promote a sense of unity and belonging, the movement doesnt offer much in the way of support from local chapters.

Florida activist Donna Davis, who was willing to go on the record, added, Does the talent to meet those challenges exist in the Black Lives Matter organization? Absolutely it does. Problems that arise are an opportunity to get things right. But we cant pretend that were not plagued by some of the issues and concerns that have taken down the movements in the past. Were not immune to it.

Black Lives Matters Austin founder, Margaret Haule, added, A lot of us were looking for support, cues or direction, and we werent getting it. If emergencies came up, there would be conflicting messages. [We watched as] some chapters were given more attention than others.

Despite insiders giving a look into what allegations of what really goes on within the Black Lives Matter movement, Shanelle Matthews the Director of Communications for the Global Black Lives Matter Network told Buzzfeed, We are committed [to] keeping our people safe and building our power. We are also committed to building movements with more integrity, dignity, and inclusiveness than ever.

Music legend Stevie Wonder took part in a North Minneapolis peace summit over the weekend, focusing on ending youth gun violence.

According to Billboard, Wonder said it was contradictory for the African American community to say "Black Lives Matter" while black-on-black crime claims so many lives.

It is in your hands to stop all the killing and all the shooting wherever it might be. Because you cannot say 'Black Lives Matter' and then kill yourselves, Wonder told those gathered at the North Minneapolis Peace Conference.

Because you know weve mattered long before it was said, but the way we show that we matter, the way that we show all the various people of color matter, is by loving each other and doing something about it," Wonder continued. "Not just talking about it, not just waiting to see the media and press come when theres a horrible thing."

Wonder argued that the black community must start loving themselves and valuing each other's lives.

The first thing you must do is stop believing the fallacy of you not being important, Wonder said. Because it is completely unacceptable for one to hate themselves so much that anyone that looks like you, you want to kill.

After speaking, the 29-time Grammy Award-winning musician closed the event by performing his hits "Love's in Need of Love Today" and "Higher Ground."
