‘Macron NEEDS Britain’ Migrant crisis may lead to Le Pen victory in the future, Hague says – Express.co.uk

GETTY

The former Tory leader claimed the EU may cease to exist if the crisis is not resolved, and that the UK will play a key role as the future migration crisis is the one that will break the Schengen zone, the EU, and the mainstream leadership of Europe" if it is left to develop.

With the population across the Middle East and Africa expected to double over the course of 30 years an increase of one billion people according to Sir William, he warned the crisis could overwhelm Europe and may lead to Ms Le Pen coming to power in years to come.

Geert Wilders wants to 'de-Islamicise' the Netherlands, hopes clashes between Turkish-Dutch protesters and the police, along with Ankara's accusations of Dutch 'fascism', will help bolster his chances of finishing first

Writing in the Telegraph, Sir Hague warned: "Those who imagine that the populist tide is now defeated will be in for a terrible shock unless people feel much better about the future in a few years time than they feel today."

He maintained that "populists, including Marine Le Pen, will be back with a vengeance", if Mr Macron refuses to take action.

Mr Macron, France's youngest ever president, is a strong supporter of the European Union.

The 39-year-old walked out to the EUs Anthem of Europe at his victory rally and used his first speech as president-elect to profess his support for the bloc.

Speaking to the public, he said: "I'll defend France, I'll defend Europe, and will strengthen links between Europe and its people."

Sir William was keen to highlight the initiatives Britain and France has previously embarked upon together to take in migrants from failed states, but that other Europeans need to do much more.

While there are no simple answers to the growing crisis, Mr Hague urged European countries to destroy people-smuggling operations and deter people from risking their lives in crowded boats that are not sea worthy.

GETTY

The former Tory leader downplayed Mr Macron's victory, claiming it was an unenthusiastic landslide because the independent candidate was elected for what he is not.

Sir William added: Rejection of established leaders and policies was the real story of this election, in a country with slow growth, high unemployment, excessive taxes, obstructive trade unions and growing cultural divisions."

Overcrowding dinghies

Up until 2014, people traffickers took migrants headed for Europe out into international waters on mother ships before transferring them to smaller boats.

But when Rome launched Mare Nostrum in late 2013, Italy began to catch smugglers in international waters, forcing the criminals to change tactics, stay in Libyan waters and put people out to sea in expendable rubber boats which easily sank.

Their business model changed too. In early 2015 many Syrians who had previously accounted for about 25 percent of passengers departing from Libya and could afford to pay more for the journey switched to the Balkan route.

To recover their loses in the central Mediterranean, traffickers upped the number of passengers per vessel. They also largely stopped issuing satellite phones, meaning those in trouble could not call for help.

In 2015 Italys coast guard registered 676 dinghies 80 percent of which had a satellite phone on board carrying an average of 103 people.

By 2016 the number of dinghies had risen to 1,094 with only 45 percent carrying a satellite phone, but each with an average of 122 passengers.

Mass departures stretched rescue resources to the limits: over 13,000 people were saved in five days at the end of May 2016, another 14,000 in four days in August including a record of 7,000 in one day and 10,800 at the start of October.

Tragedies bring rescuers

In 2014, about 70 percent of migrants were rescued by the Italian navy and coast guard, and 24 percent by commercial ships. But amid complaints it was serving as a bridge to Europe for migrants, Italy axed Mare Nostrum.

The safety line was cut, but departures continued, and after two shipwrecks killed 1,200 people in April 2015 the European Union beefed up its Frontex border controls Operation Triton and launched the Sophia anti-smuggling operation.

The tragedies also prompted the launch of privately-funded rescue vessels, with up to a dozen boats taking part at present.

The larger boats combined rescued 26 percent of migrants in 2016, while the smaller ones handed out life jackets and gave emergency care to those in distress while help from bigger vessels arrived.

Italys navy and coast guard still perform 40 percent of rescues, while the Sophia operation carries out 13 percent and Frontex 7.5 percent, according to the coast guard.

Despite their efforts, over 4,500 migrants died or were missing and feared drowned in 2016, and another 1,000 have met the same fate this year. Some succumb to the cold or dehydration, or are suffocated by fuel fumes, or trapped in overcrowded boats.

A profitable business

In total, nearly 550,000 migrants arrived in Italy between 2013 and 2016, and 37,000 have landed in the country so far this year.

According to Sophia, some Libyan coastal areas derive 50 percent of their income from smuggling migrants. A dinghy with 100 passengers can fetch up to 67,000 euros ($73,000), while a wooden boat with 400 people can earn up to 380,000 euros.

Frontex estimates the business has a turnover of between four and six billion euros.

EUs strategy

The European Union is in the process of training and equipping Libyan coast guards so they will be able to prevent departures or at least stop boats reaching international waters.

So far this year over 4,000 migrants have been intercepted, according to the International Organisation for Migration.

The idea is that they be escorted back to camps in Libya, and then returned to their home countries where possible.

But human rights organisations have said the chaotic situation in crisis-hit Libya makes it impossible to declare it a safe place to return migrants, while many of those fleeing war or persecution cannot be simply returned home.

Trump’s illegal immigration pledge kept GOP in power don’t forget it – The Hill (blog)

President Trump ultimately won in November in large part because he campaigned aggressively on cracking down on illegal immigration. He vowed to make America safe again by building a wall to secure our borders and defunding sanctuary cities that shelter illegal criminals.

If you turn on the TV or listen to the Democrats talking points, they try to instill fear by painting those who believe in immigration laws as hateful human beings who lack compassion and want all immigrants deported.

People are drinking the Kool-Aid theyre pouring. After the election I remember people telling me they were scared that someone they know who is here legally might get deported.

President Trump never advocated deporting legal immigrants, and he never advocated turning our country into a police state. Thats just fear mongering.

The agents knocked down the door and went in military guns locked and loaded. The iconic picture of an agent pointing one of those giant guns directly at the terrified little boy and his uncle is one many of us will never forget.

How ironic. Elians mother gave her life to ensure his freedom, and it was a free country that took him from his law-abiding family with totalitarian force.

Thats real fear. Enforcing laws that prohibit people from entering this country until we can verify that they dont have a criminal history, and they arent here to terrorize us thats called protecting my kids and yours.

Not only did President Trumps message of law and order resonate with the American people last November, it apparently resonated with illegal immigrants.

Even before construction on the wall has started, the number of people crossing the border illegally has drastically decreased since the inauguration. Former Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar said that compared with 2016, apprehensions on the southwest border are down 67 percent through March. That is even higher than the 61 percent decline touted by President Trump.

The Democrats and their friends in the media use examples of displaced refugees to show youre heartless if you dont support an open border free-for-all. What they dont talk about are the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants convicted of crimes, including homicide, manslaughter, and kidnapping who were released back into communities during the Obama administration.

Those arent the stories that make the cut for primetime news.

Innocent refugees, unfortunately, arent always the reality of an immigration system in chaos. Just ask Kate Steinles parents.

Many people remember that she was allegedly killed in 2015 by an illegal immigrant with seven felony convictions. He was deported five times, but snuck back over the border and sought refuge in San Francisco, a sanctuary city.

While he was apprehended on drug charges another crime ICE issued a detainer request for him. Instead of turning him over to authorities, as the law requires, they let him walk because it's a sanctuary city, and illegal felons dont have to follow law, apparently. Shortly after, he shot and killed Kate Steinle.

The city of San Francisco has her blood on its hands.

President Trump recently signed an executive order, making good on his promise to cut off funding to sanctuary cities who harbor illegal criminals, only to have it blocked by a judge who appears to be anything but impartial.

The executive order essentially enforced existing law. The Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 requires states to cooperate with authorities on immigration requests. State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual. (8 U.S. Code, section 1373)

Judge William Orrick, who blocked the order, was nominated by President Obama, and was a major fundraiser and donor to the former president, raising $200,000 for him and donating $30,800 to committees supporting him. He contributed large amounts of money to a man who supported harboring illegal criminals, and then issued a ruling telling President Trump he cant enforce existing law that prevents harboring illegal criminals. I think its fair to say judicial integrity took another serious hit on his watch.

If we decide to stop paying taxes because we dont like the law, will local governments protect us from the IRS under the guise of a sanctuary city? Or if a city decides to declare itself a sanctuary for the Second Amendment, can everyone carry guns openly, shielded from federal and state gun laws? How should we know which laws are serious and which are simply suggestions?

According to a Rasmussen poll, 81 percent of voters favor the mandatory deportation of illegal immigrants convicted of a crime, and 50 percent of voters in November said the U.S. should take legal action against sanctuary cities that harbor illegal immigrants.

The American people voted decisively for President Trump in November, and they allowed Republicans to keep their majorities in both the House and Senate, because they believed these Republicans would work to help the president carryout his agenda.

Late last month Congress passed a short-term budget that looks more like the Democrats agenda than the presidents. It doesnt include money to fund the border wall or cut funding for sanctuary cities.

The presidents priorities are what the American people voted for, and his priorities are the reason many of the Republicans in Congress lived to see another term.

They would be wise to remember that.

It seems to me that theadvice, when youre in a hole, you should stop digging, should also apply to our budgets. An example is our school budgets that are so bad that the quality of education in our schools is in real trouble and getting worse. Yet we have a very high percentage of undocumented immigrant children in our schools who are costing us a fortune to educate and feed.

Then stupidity seems to take full control as our politicians (including Gov. Brown) shove sanctuary state down our throats.

The illegal immigrants seem to be outsmarting us in many ways. But I guess if were stupid enough to legalize marijuana for the taxes, we cant expect much common sense to be very active in politics. So the illegal drug problems that will follow the legalization of marijuana will become a nightmare that will no doubt eat up more taxes than the legalization of marijuana brings in.

Our enemies dont need to work at destroying us were on the road to doing that ourselves.

Illegal drugs, illegal immigration and our politicians are out of control.
