The response was beyond what we could have imagined, Art+Feminisms co-founders told Artsy collectively, via email. The call for participation went viral; people and organizations we had no direct relationship with were reaching out, asking to be a part of the project, they said. We thought we would have to guilt 10 friends into attending! We never expected to be working on the project years later.

Now, Art+Feminism has spread to more than 28 countries across six continents. Although their edit-a-thons are primarily planned to occur in March, to correspond with Womens History Month, they continue throughout the year. These events are planned and hosted by local arts organizations and major museums, like the Smithsonian American Art Museum in D.C. and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

In 2016 alone, participants in Art+Feminisms efforts added roughly 2,000 articles to Wikipedia and improved another 1,000. Artists newly represented on the site span Alice Boyd, a British pre-Raphaelite painter, Margret the Adroit, an early 13th-century Icelandic carver, and Xiao Lu, a contemporary Chinese installation and video artist.

The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City hosted an edit-a-thon on Saturday, March 18th. It was the schools first event with Art+Feminism, scheduled as part of a wider event series reacting to the election of President Donald Trump in November. We wanted to create something for our students so they could become politically active, or to show them ways in which they could effect change, explained Phoebe Stein, a digital service librarian at SVA who organized the edit-a-thon.

While en route to jail following his arrest for driving with a suspended license and no insurance, a Florida man declared, Thats the last time I listen to Wikipedia about driving. It said I would just get a ticket.

Justin Miret, 22, was nabbed Friday evening after a cop spotted him running a stop sign in Port St. Lucie. Subsequent checks revealed that Mirets drivers license was suspended last year and his auto insurance had been cancelled.

Miret began screaming at a patrolman, according to an arrest affidavit, and balled his fists up in an apparent attempt to intimidate the cop. Miret, seen above, was subsequently arrested and placed in the rear of a police cruiser, where he could be heard complaining about the faulty legal advice available on Wikipedia.

Charged with a pair of misdemeanors, Miret is scheduled for an April 11 arraignment hearing. He is free on $1125 bond.

After the site published a post about the "Jewess" and her candidacy, a reader posted Schrode's contact information in the comments section. Over the past 10 months, her email and social media accounts have been polluted with a torrent of slurs and disturbing images.

Her tormentors are faceless. They hide behind screen names, in the shadows.

Andrew Auernheimer ( http://apne.ws/2nwjwFA ) says he is not one of them, but he applauds their vitriolic spirit.

A notorious computer hacker and internet troll associated with The Daily Stormer, Auernheimer scoffs at the notion that anyone can be harmed by "mean words on the internet." For him, anonymous trolling is a modern form of a generations-old, "distinctly American" political tactic.

"Being offensive is a political act," he said. "If something pushes up against polite civilization, it's for a purpose."

Auernheimer, whose anti-Semitic rhetoric matches the swastika tattooed on his chest, chuckled at the mention of Schrode's name.

"Why should I have any empathy? What's she ever done for me?" he asked. "I don't feel any empathy for any Jew anywhere."

Trolling is a calling card of the "alt-right" an amorphous fringe movement that uses internet memes, message boards and social media to spread a hodgepodge of racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny and xenophobia.

Troll tactics edged into the mainstream with the 2014 birth of GamerGate, an online campaign against feminists in the video game industry. GamerGate arguably provided a blueprint for some white nationalists and other extremists who rallied around Donald Trump's presidential campaign, flooding the internet with "Pepe The Frog" cartoons and other hate symbols.

The Daily Stormer's founder, Andrew Anglin, published a primer in August that attempted to define the "alt-right" and explain its origins. At the core of the movement is a "trolling culture" bred on the 4chan.org website, he wrote.

Anglin's initial June 3 post on Schrode the first of at least six about her linked to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency report on her bid to become the youngest women ever elected to Congress. A commenter posted Schrode's cellphone number, email addresses and links to her social media accounts.

The initial post called her a "hissing weasel." Today, a photograph of Schrode is the first image returned by a Google search for that term.

The attacks weren't limited to emails or tweets. She said somebody hacked her campaign website on election day, changing her name throughout to Adolf Hitler. She also said she received a voicemail from someone making a hissing noise.

Forensic teams at work

Students from Newman Catholic College in Carlisle have been given an insight into the demanding work of a crime scene investigator through a collaboration with the University of Cumbria.

15 students in years 8,9,10 and 11 have already met Ashleigh Hunt, the universitys lecturer in forensic science, who demonstrated how science, English and maths all have a part to play in a modern investigation.

Tomorrow (Thursday 30 March) theyll see for themselves how a police inquiry unfolds when they visit a crime scene staged at the universitys crime house on the Brampton Road, Carlisle campus.

This is an amazing hands-on opportunity for young people to experience possible career paths in forensic science, Louise Tickell, head of English at Newman Catholic School, said. The project has enabled our students to broaden their horizons and realise that the world is their oyster if they choose it to be! Thank you to Nicola Jones, LRC assistant at Newman and to the team from the University of Cumbria.

Students and staff will meet at Brampton Road campus at 3:30pm where theyll be faced with a realistic crime scenario. Over the following weeks pupils will analyse the evidence that they have collected before law staff from the university will return to school to demonstrate how evidence would be presented in court at a mock trial.

Crime investigation demands skills from across the school curriculum and to be able to demonstrate practically how they all play a part in a successful investigation will we hope be inspiring, Ashleigh Hunt, lecturer in forensic science at the University of Cumbria, said. Conservative commentator Ann Coulter is set to appear at UC Berkeley on April 27, just months after a talk by disgraced Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos was cancelled amid fiery, violent protests.

Berkeley College Republicans, the campus group behind both speaking engagements, confirmed the visit to NBC Bay Area on Tuesday.

The Berkeley College Republicans have invited Ms. Coulter to speak at UC Berkeley because she has been one of the most vocal critics of illegal immigration in all its manifestations and was one of the earliest supporters of President Trump, from when he initially announced his candidacy down to the present day, said Naweed Tahmas, a spokesperson for the campus group.

Berkeley College Republicans is working with Young Americas Foundation, a conservative organization that regularly sponsors university appearances, to iron out the details, including a contract and scheduled appearance time. The group also plans to work with campus police to arrange security measures, Tahmas said.

University officials did not immediately return a request for comment.

Young Americas Foundation tweeted out its own unique confirmation of the Coulter event earlier on Tuesday, warning snowflakes a term used by the so-called alt-right, a populist fringe group made up of white nationalists, to describe liberals of the impending lecture.

Coulters visit will likely be seen as a test for UC Berkeley, historically known as the home of the free speech movement, which came under intense scrutiny in February after anti-Yiannopolous protesters smashed windows, started fistfights and set a lamppost ablaze with little interference from law enforcement.

The downtown riot made national news and prompted a response from President Donald Trump, who floated the idea of cutting federal funds from the university.

Coulter, who rose to fame in the 1990s as a political pundit on "Real Time With Bill Maher," is known for roiling those on the left with her inflammatory comments, particularly those about immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community and feminists.

Her most recent book, "In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!" is a New York Times-bestseller that effectively serves as an ode to Trump and a screed against the mainstream political establishment and minority groups.

In the same way any immigrant to Finland makes it less white, any immigrant to America makes it less honest, she opines in the book. In the past, she has also advocated for bringing back literacy tests for voting, called public schools "babysitting" programs for "hoodlums, and said that scaling back womens rights is a "personal fantasy."

UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said that the Berkeley College Republicans retain the right to invite to campus whomever they deem fit.

However, he said, the university's "administration wishes to make clear that an invitation of this sort in no way suggests our endorsement of a particular point of view, and we will continue to affirm our commitment to the values of diversity, equality, and tolerance that underlie the greatness of Berkeley and, indeed, of our nation."

Coulter is scheduled to speak in Modesto the day after the Berkeley engagement, courtesy of the Stanislaus GOP. Protest plans for that event have already spread on social media.
