VIDEO: Mini USA Looks Beyond Social Metrics in Real-Time Marketing [#CZLNY]

In the second part of our video interview with Lee Nadler, marketing communications manager for Mini USA, he explains how the brand taps into social buzzwords and interacts with Mini owners in real time.

For Mini USA, real-time marketing is an important part of maintaining a relationship with its existing consumers, as well as an effective way to attract new followers on social.

Lee Nadler, Mini USA's marketing communcations manager, explained during an interview at ClickZ Live New York that in order to stay proactive, his team creates a monthly social marketing calendar to keep track of what's happening around the automotive industry in general, what's happening around the brand's history, and what might be happening in Mini owners' lives.

Prepared content aside, Mini is also looking for interesting social buzz that it could tap into in real time. For example, on the day #thedresswent viral, the brand posted two Mini Cooper images and asked its fans what color the car was in an effort to capitalize on the social conversation.

When it comes to measurement strategy, social comments and shares are important metrics to show if a brand's real-time tactic is effective, but marketers should look beyond those, Nadler noted.

"The big thing going forward is how can you actually listen to comments that are coming back from your followers and [product] owners," he said.

30 Terms Everyone Hiring An SEO Consultant Should Know

As you sit down with your new SEO consultant it starts out well, but soon he says Well need to implement a good 301 redirect plan so that you dont lose organic rankings and traffic. Then he says something about title tags, which youve heard of although youre not quite sure exactly what they are or what they do, or why its important to update them as your consultant is recommending, although it all sounds good. Then he starts using other jargon like indexing, link equity, and canonicalization, and with every word you feel your grasp on reality slipping and the need to take a nap. Its not that youre cluelessyou understand most of what your consultant is saying, but youre not sure what the words mean in this context, or when he uses two words together in a way youve never heard. You would ask what all these words and phrases mean, but you dont want to slow him down, and you dont want to appear ignorant. So you nod your head thoughtfully and hope that when your consultant starts sending you reports they make more sense, enough so that you can justify the benefits of all this to your management team.

If you have ever felt this way youre completely normal. When discussing digital marketing services like SEO, PPC management, content marketing, and conversion rate optimization, experts have to use technical terms and acronyms in order to communicate effectively. Sometimes they forget that not everyone they communicate with is familiar with these terms. Here is a list of 30 of the most commonly used terms in the SEO world. Learn these, and your communication with your SEO consultant will get much easier.

The Best SEO Tools 2015 Edition

In the blink of an eye, new tools come and go. There are a million out there, and most new and experienced SEOs are always asking - what are the best tools out there? Which tools are definite "must haves" and which should I shelve?

In 15 years as a digital marketer, Ive been particularly interested in searching for powerful tools that can go a long way. Ive always believed that by revealing the right data, a good tool can open doors. So without further ado, here is a list of some of the best tools Ive discovered, and why.

The first, and most powerful, way we use SEMrush is to determine if a site is healthy or not. Whenever we are doing outreach and working on link-building campaigns, we always check SEMrush to see how many keywords a site is ranking for in Google. When we find sites that have a high volume of inbound links and DA, but no keywords ranking in SEMrush, then its likely theyve been penalized. We also check their organic traffic to determine if theres a massive drop; if there is, we know to avoid reaching out to that site.

We also use SEMrush as part of our keyword research. We find the top sites ranking for a primary keyword, then see what keywords those sites are ranking for. When you combine the keyword list with a few sites in the industry, you end up with a pretty comprehensive keyword list.

Most dont think of BuzzSumo as an SEO tool, but as a social media tool. Yet as SEO and content marketing are becoming indelibly linked, BuzzSumo is now a powerful tool in an SEOs arsenal.

We use BuzzSumo when searching ideas for content - visual, social, and blog content. After creating a database of keywords, we then look for those keywords in BuzzSumo to brainstorm creative ways of crafting titles. When brainstorming for ideas for new infographics, BuzzSumo is usually our first stop. When figuring out popular ideas for Pinterest story boards, BuzzSumo data can be invaluable.

BuzzSumo is also powerful when searching for the most popular pages on a website. Again, this can help to create link-worthy assets.
