Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, said Tuesday that he plans to vote against a government spending measure if it provides funding for President Obamas plan to grant temporary legal status for more than 4 million illegal immigrants in the country.

I wont vote for the spending bill if it includes money for the executive amnesty, he told radio host Laura Ingraham.

Some conservatives, such as GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rep. Steve King of Iowa in the House, have called on Republicans to use the power of the purse to curb Mr. Obamas ability to carry out the recently-announced actions on immigration.

Other GOP leaders are trying to coalesce around a plan that would fund most of the federal government through next fall and Homeland Security for a few months, when a new Republican majority in the U.S. Senate could revisit the issue.

Mr. Paul, a possible 2016 presidential contender, also criticized the short time frame surrounding consideration of the measure to fund the government past Thursday, calling for passage of individual appropriations bills in the future and also saying that every facet of government from top to bottom should be reformed through the spending process.

Ayinde congratulates Ambode, pledges support

One of the candidates in the just conducted All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Lagos state, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, has attributed the victory of the eventual winner of the election, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to aggressive campaign and intra-party popularity.

Ayinde, therefore, congratulated Ambode and pledged to support him as the party prepared for the February 2015 governorship polls.

His position was contained in a statement credited to his campaign organisations director of media and publicity, Peter Ajayi.

The statement read partly, As one of the contestants in the just conducted All Progressives Congress primary, I, Tayo Akinmade Ayinde, wish to congratulate Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his victory at the party primary.

His rigorous campaign activities, hard work and popularity within the party have been rewarded with a landslide victory.

As a loyalist of the APC, the victory of one of us, is victory for all. I shall continue to work for the interest of our party.

Ayinde was also reported to have thanked the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, for providing what he described as an enabling environment and level playing ground for all of us.

He said, You (Tinubu) are a mentor and father of all. We shall continue to work with you for the interest and development of our great party and Nigeria.

While commending all the delegates who participated in the primary, Ayinde urged for unity in preparation for the February 2015 election.

He said, To all the members of the APC, the work has just started. What we just witnessed was an election within the party. The hurdle ahead is to win all elective positions in February, 2015. To achieve this, all hands must be on deck. All campaign structures should be collapsed into a more formidable one.

Enugu APC accuses PDP of destruction

The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of wilfully destroying the campaign posters and billboards of the APC candidates in the state.

The state chairman of the APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who made the allegation at a news conference, said the party had already petitioned the security agencies over the development.

Nwoye said the destruction of APC billboards had intensified since the party elected Okey Ezea as its governorship candidate.

Nwoye said, Before the primary people were wondering if the PDP candidates were the only candidates in Enugu, but immediately after Okey Ezea emerged, we kicked off our publicity by mounting billboards.

The billboards were to advertise our candidate and to tell the world that here is our candidate.

Unfortunately, those who are interested in ensuring that there will be no democracy in Enugu and who have indeed found their own safe haven in PDP, who have perfected these acts of evil from 1999 to present, resurrected last night and went on a rampage and destroyed billboards mounted by us at Nsukka.

They also went to Obba and destroyed billboards mounted by our candidate for Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.

The APC chairman also alleged that the partys candidates and their supporters had been receiving death threats from an alleged PDP killer squad in the state.

He said, Before now, we get a lot of calls by members in Nsukka area, supporters of Okey Ezea, supporters of APC, have been receiving threats by the killer squad who have been groomed and put in place by the PDP leadership since 16 years ago.

They have perfected the act of intimidation and murderous movement.
