2013 financial year completed in line with adjusted expectations / revenue up 16.0 percent to EUR 105.2 million / EBIT margin reaches 4.4 percent / dividend 20 cents per share / drive to increase revenue share from outside printing industry making good progress

Sassenberg, March 11, 2014 The revenue total for the technotrans Group reached EUR 105.2 million in the past financial year, representing growth of 16.0 percent compared with the previous year (EUR 90.7 million). This increase was driven first and foremost by the takeover of KLH Kltetechnik GmbH and its Asian sister companies. The printing industry, on the other hand - still technotrans' most important sales market - again performed more weakly than expected in the past financial year. In consequence, revenue of EUR 105.2 million ultimately came in merely at the bottom end of the target range for the year as a whole (EUR 110 million, +/- 5 percent). Overall, EBIT for the 2013 financial year reached EUR 4.6 million, compared with EUR 5.4 million in the previous year (-13.6 percent); that equates to an EBIT margin of 4.4 percent. As a result, the earnings target for 2013 (EBIT margin of 6 to 7 percent) defined at the start of the financial year was not achieved.

"Developments in the 2013 financial year confirmed our resolve to maintain our assertive pursuit of a course of strategic reorientation. The process of tapping new sales markets with the goal of actively taking control of organic growth again made good progress in 2013. It is merely that it is taking longer than we anticipated to realise the revenue potential of a number of projects. We therefore view the 2013 financial year as a year of transition and will continue following our chosen course", explained Henry Brickenkamp, Board of Management Spokesman of technotrans AG. "In the 2013 financial year we achieved our goal of increasing our revenue share from outside the printing industry to 30 percent. Following the takeover of Termotek AG in 2011, we have thus added considerable breadth to our presence in the growing market of the laser industry with the acquisition of KLH."

The net profit for the 2013 financial year is EUR 3.0 million, equivalent to a rate of return of 2.9 percent (previous year 3.4 percent). Earnings per share outstanding consequently came to EUR 0.47. The Board of Management and Supervisory Board will propose to the Shareholders' Meeting in May 2014 that a dividend of EUR 0.20 per share outstanding be distributed. "This brings us much closer to our future goal of distributing 50 percent of the consolidated net profit, provided no current investment requirements or major acquisitions stand in the way of using financial resources in this way," declared Dirk Engel, Finance Director of technotrans AG.

The number of employees in the technotrans Group increased from 662 to 777 in the course of 2013.

Kansas City-area spelling bee finally ends

By BILL DRAPER Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A marathon spelling bee between two Kansas City-area students who exhausted the initial word list last month ended after 29 more rounds Saturday when the eventual runner-up stumbled over the word "stifling."

For more than an hour, seventh-grader Kush Sharma and fifth-grader Sophia Hoffman went toe-to-toe in the continuation of the Jackson County Spelling Bee, which began two weeks ago but had to be extended after the two breezed through the word list provided by the Scripps National Spelling Bee, then 20 more words picked out of the dictionary.

The contestants had no problem correctly spelling words like "boodle" and "slobber," often asking the moderator for a word's origin, definition or part of speech. But at the end of the 28th round, Sophia appeared puzzled when attempting to spell "stifling," and even more so when the bell rang to indicate she had gotten it wrong.

Following a lengthy break to listen to audio of the round to make sure Sophia had heard the word correctly, the judges ruled that she had misspelled it, meaning Kush could claim the title if he correctly spelled his word in the 29th round.

After being given his final word, "definition," Kush drew chuckles from spectators watching from a different room in the Kansas City Public Library when he asked for the definition. He promptly spelled it correctly and won the bee.

The end of the match brought to a close a whirlwind two weeks for Kush, a student at Frontier School of Innovation in Kansas City, and Sophia, a Highland Park Elementary School student in the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit.

Three days after they finished in a tie on Feb. 22, both of their families were flown to New York to make appearances on CNN and "Good Morning America." The two said they had become close friends because of the experience.

"I was pretty sad when she got that word incorrect," said Kush, who now moves on to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May. "That's the game, you know? It's going to come down to one person, whether you're friends or not."

Sophia said she was excited that she made it so far in the bee and that she planned to compete again next year. Kush said he, too, would be back, and he wouldn't be surprised if the two dueled even longer next year.

AP Exclusive: Man denies he's bitcoin creator

LOS ANGELES (AP) Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto said Thursday that he is not the creator of bitcoin, adding further mystery to the story of how the world's most popular digital currency came to be.

The denial came after Newsweek published a 4,500-word cover story claiming Nakamoto is the person who wrote the computer code underpinnings of bitcoin.

In an exclusive two-hour interview with The Associated Press, Nakamoto, 64, denied he had anything to do with it and said he had never heard of bitcoin until his son told him he had been contacted by a Newsweek reporter three weeks ago.

Nakamoto acknowledged that many of the details in Newsweek's report are correct, including that he once worked for a defense contractor, and that his given name at birth was Satoshi. But he strongly disputed the magazine's assertion that he is "the face behind bitcoin."

"I got nothing to do with it," he said, repeatedly.

Newsweek stands by its story, which kicked off the relaunch of its print edition after 15 months and reorganization under new ownership.

Since bitcoin's birth in 2009, the currency's creator has remained a mystery. The person or people behind the digital currency's inception have been known only as "Satoshi Nakamoto," which many observers believed to be a pseudonym.

Bitcoin has become increasingly popular among tech enthusiasts, libertarians and risk-seeking investors because it allows people to make one-to-one transactions, buy goods and services and exchange money across borders without involving banks, credit card issuers or other third parties. Criminals like bitcoin for the same reasons.

For various technical reasons, it's hard to know just how many people worldwide own bitcoins, but the currency attracted outsize media attention and the fascination of millions as an increasing number of large retailers such as Overstock.com began to accept it.

Speculative investors have jumped into the bitcoin fray, too, sending the currency's value fluctuating wildly in recent months. In December, the value of a single bitcoin hit an all-time high of $1,200. It was around $665 on Thursday, according to the website bitcoincharts.com. Bloggers have speculated that bitcoin's creator is worth hundreds of millions of dollars in bitcoin.

Charges have been dropped against three football fans who were facing prosecution for using the y-word.

Gary Whybrow, 31, Sam Parsons, 24, and Peter Ditchman, 52, were all hauled before magistrates after allegedly using the language at Tottenham matches last autumn.

However the Crown Prosecution Service said the words could not legally be counted as "threatening, abusive or insulting" in the circumstances.

Baljit Ubhey from the CPS said: "In accordance with our duty to keep all cases under review we have conducted a senior level review of this case.

"It has now been concluded that, according to the Code for Crown Prosecutors, there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, and that the cases against Peter Ditchman, Gary Whybrow and Sam Parsons should be discontinued.

"In considering whether a criminal offense could be proved we have to look objectively at the words used, and the context in which they were used.
