Ukraine, EU Elections, U.S. GDP, Pfizer: Week Ahead May 24-31

Ukraine holds its presidential election on May 25 after the ouster of Viktor Yanukovych in February, with polls showing Chocolate billionaire Petro Poroshenko as the front-runner.

Elections for the European Parliament will also take place and Egypt goes to the polls to pick a new president.

The U.S. economy probably shrank in the last quarter for the first time in three years, data in the coming week may show. Reports on home prices, consumer confidence, personal spending and durable goods orders will also be released.

Pfizer Inc. faces a deadline for its $117 billion bid for AstraZeneca Plc.

The French Open tennis tournament will begin and finals of Europes top club soccer and rugby tournaments take place.

-Nine-time European champion Real Madrid plays Atletico Madrid in Lisbon in the final of soccers Champions League. Its the first time two teams from the same city have appeared in the final. 20:45 local time (15:45 EDT).

-Defending champion Toulon of France plays Englands Saracens in Cardiff in the final of European rugbys Heineken Cup. Its the last edition of the tournament, which will be replaced by a new event next season. 17:00 local time (12:00 EDT).

-NBA playoffs. The Miami Heat play the Indiana Pacers in Game 3 of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals. 20:30 EDT.

-NHL playoffs. The Los Angeles Kings play the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of the best-of-seven Western Conference finals. 20:00 EDT.

-Ukrainian presidential election. The country will vote on a new leader after the ouster of Yanukovych in February. Chocolate billionaire Poroshenko has the support of 44.6 percent of those who say they will definitely vote, according to a poll conducted May 14-18. The poll of 2,011 respondents found that 51 percent of those in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions wont take part. Voting starts at 08:00 local time (01:00 EDT) and ends at 20:00.
