Memories of tea time

For the third year the Tomah Lioness Club has held a tea party at the Tomah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The Lionesses hold the tea to bring back fond memories from the TNRC residents past, said Lioness member Edd Crowder.

It brings a beautiful memory back to the residents of the teas they had as young people and shared with moms and grandmas, Crowder said. Its not something thats done in the world we live in. But its a pleasant memory that brings smiles to their faces.

The now three-year-old tea began after Crowder heard stories from residents about teas they had in the past as little girls while she, along with other Lioness Club members, gave manicures to TNRC residents.

She then asked the ladies if they would like to have a tea party, and they said they would. Crowder said they were excited at the prospect of having a tea party.

I then approached (The Lioness Club) and asked if they would sponsor it, Crowder said. They did.

She and the club were expecting the first tea to have about 10 to 15 people they had over 40 people participate.

They loved it, She said. They loved it so much we decided to do another and now its our third year.

While fewer residents attended this year, Crowder said they still had a good turnout.

I think it (went) well, Crowder said. We dont have as many residents here in the room but we do go to each room and ask them if theyd like to have a hat.
