The merry month of May has lots to offer at The Discovery Center.
Fairie Tea Party
Hear ye, hear ye! An invitation is extended to all fairies and elves to don their party attire and attend an Enchanted Tea Party at the Royal Court of the Fairies on Saturday at The Discovery Center.
Their royal majesties will receive guests from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Reservations required. A fairy feast, entertainment, activities and, of course, pixie dust will be provided. All fairy children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $10 per person; to reserve a spot, call 773-8661 x201.
Golf tournament
The 14th annual Discovery Center Cup Captain and Crew Golf Tournament will be held on May 20 at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott.
Registration (with breakfast pizza) begins at 7:30 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Join us for a fun and great day of golf play where the PGA Champions play!
The cost is $125 per person, which includes greens fees, cart, breakfast pizza and after-tournament lunch. First-place Discovery Cup Trophy awarded to the winning team. Prizes also awarded for second place, third place, longest drive and closest to the pin prizes. Win a car in the hole-in-one contest sponsored by Miller Auto Team. Exhibit openings
On May 20, the sound of bagpipes will fill the air during the grand opening and ribbon-cutting for the newly remodeled Engine No. 5 Firehouse.
The Binghamton Fire Department and the Watson School of Engineering at Binghamton University have teamed up to help us revamp our No. 5 fire engine and firehouse. Engine No. 5 will have upgraded components with new technology, and the station house has been remodeled to reflect the old station that once housed the museums fire engine, which was built in 1897 and , now houses Number 5 Restaurant.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at noon, where you can greet a fireman, visit with the newly graduated student engineers and even meet Marshall of PAW Patrol.
At the same time, right next door to our firehouse in our AB & C Bank, will be another grand opening of our Global Currency exhibit thanks to the efforts of Lockheed Martin and the Watson School of Engineering at Binghamton University. The newly installed interactive display will showcase currencies used around the world and trivia from these countries.

Summer camps
Our Power of Play summer camp program blends the arts and sciences into activities that will spark creative inquiry and have your child focused on the fun!
We are excited to present our summer camp series using the STEM to STEAM approach to learning. Play-based camp themes that infuse science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics are offered in morning and afternoon camp programs sure to have your child both physically and mentally supercharged.
This camp is for every child interested in making friends, playing collaborative games, experiencing new things and diving into the creative process through exploration and invention. Join us as we take children full speed ahead from July 10 to Aug. 25.
Camper ages: 5-6 (5-year-olds must be registered for fall kindergarten), 7-8 and 9-12.
Hours: Half-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. with the option for a full day of fun with our back-to-back camps just bring a lunch! Supervised lunch with exploration of our interactive exhibits is offered from 12 to 1 p.m. for campers registered for both morning and afternoon sessions.
Early dropoff (includes Breakfast Club) and late pick-up available. Children registered for early dropoff will enjoy a nutritious breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. at $22 per camp session, and late pick-up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. is $22 per camp session. (Parents must sign up for extended camp hours at time of registration.)
Camp fees: All camp fees are due at time of registration, including before-and after-care fees. Members are $75 and not-yet members are $80 per weekly half-day session. Truck Day
Its Truck Day at The Discovery Center on June 3. Put on your hard hat and plan to spend the day as we get ready to explore big trucks, small trucks, digger trucks, construction vehicles and more.
