Republican leader falters Kelly McKamey/ Guest Letter RexburgStandardJournal.com
Editor,
The Idaho Republican Party has a new chairman Steve Yates. It appears in some respects that he wants to unite the Republican Liberty Caucus with the establishment wing of the party. He appears to have made a fatal mistake.
Yates has appointed former U.S. Senator Larry Craig as the finance chairman of the Idaho Republican party. Not only is Larry Craig a general embarrassment to the state of Idaho, but it has recently been ruled that he has misused over $200,000 in campaign funds, which he must repay, and pay a $45,000 fine as well. This is who Mr. Yates trusts to gather money for the Republican Party?
This is a ridiculous way to show that the Republican Party values integrity and wants to be seen as embracing the values of liberty-minded Republicans. The Republican Party leaders will not be able to recover from the injuries sustained by being deceitful and manipulative at the State Convention in Moscow by foisting the likes of Larry Craig as the fund-raising poster boy.
Larry Craig may be able to gather some funds from his acquaintances in various airports, but conservatives with moral values would shun this sort of fund-raising. Hopefully Mr. Yates will rethink this appointment.
