APC to probe irregularities in Ebonyi ward congresses

The All Progressives Congress on Sunday said it would investigate cases of irregularities recorded during Fridays ward congress across the 171 wards in Ebonyi.

This is contained in a release bySecretary to APC National Congress Committee in Ebonyi, Mr Sunny Onyeukwu.

Candidates, who may feel short-changed in the process, are urged to articulate their grievances and forward same to the Appeal Committee for adjudication and redress.

We are confident that those with genuine complaints will obtain justice as the party affirms its commitment to transparency and fair play during its congresses, the statement read.

The statement noted that the committee had commenced the collation of the ward congress results which would soon be made public.

We will be guided by the sacred principle of integrity, honour and respect for the popular vote, as the residence of ultimate sovereignty in a democracy, it stated.

It commended all those who participated in the exercise and hailed the healthy competitive spirit among the candidates, while saluting their unflinching faith in the party.

We enjoin those who may eventually emerge victorious in the congress to be magnanimous in victory and embrace their brothers and sisters who lost.

We should remember at all times that we are members of one family and as such embrace the enduring attributes of love, forgiveness and unanimity of purpose.

It would be recalled that violence marred the conduct of the congress in Ezza South and Onicha Local Government Area while Ezza North, Abakaliki, among others recorded peaceful conduct.

Stay away from NDelta, APC tells Jonathan

THE All Progressives Congress has called President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to stay away from the Niger Delta region ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The APC stated that the President and the PDP had no moral right to campaign for re-election in the Niger Delta due to their alleged neglect of the region.

Rivers State Interim Chairman of the party, Dr. Ikanya Davies, said in a statement Thursday that it was necessary for the President to avoid campaigning in the oil rich region since his kinsmen had rejected him for disappointing them.

The statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the state APC chairman, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, recalled that the former Bayelsa Governor, Mr. Timipreye Sylvas declaration that majority of Bayelsa people were not happy with Jonathan and wanted a change.

According to the statement, Even though they lack shame, President Jonathan and PDP should for once respect themselves and stay away from the Niger Delta since even his kinsmen in Bayelsa State have rejected him for disappointing them.

This fact was made clear by the immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, who during his solidarity visit to Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, declared that most Bayelsans were frustrated with the Jonathan administration and want change even though the President is from the state.

As Chief Sylva rightly said, Jonathans Presidency has brought nothing but shame and opened cracks in the unity of the people of the South-South geo-political zone.

Jonathans occupation of the Aso Presidential Villa has proved to be a curse rather than a blessing to the Niger Delta. The situation is so bad that the Jonathan Presidency has failed to reconstruct the East-West road, which links the South-South with the South-Western parts of the country.

Certainly, President Jonathan and the PDP have lost every moral right to come and ask the people of the Niger Delta for their votes in 2015 considering the wickedness they have exhibited towards the people of the region.

Commending Sylva for having the courage to speak the truth despite his blood relationship with President Jonathan, the state APC expressed its readiness to work with him and other progressives in Bayelsa to unseat the ruling party.

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Peoples Democratic Party as more democratic than other political parties in Nigeria.

Apparently referring to the opposition All Progressives Congress, Jonathan said the PDP was more democratic because it would not cancel ward congresses across the states without considering the wish of its members.

The President spoke at the South-East PDP rally held in Enugu, on Friday. The rally was tagged Unity Rally.

He said the party was not like another party, where a local government chairman can cancel a ward congress for no justifiable reason and without the peoples opinion.

Jonathan said the PDP is the only political platform in Nigeria where the voice of the people could count and decisions were taken based on the majority and popular vote.

We are not like one party in this country where one man or a group of people determine how the party is run, said the President.

He said, The national chairman of the PDP or any of its governors cant cancel a ward congress of the party just like that and with impunity. I, as the President, dont even have the powers to do so, but it is happening in a political party in this country.

According to him, he does not see anything progressive about some of the opposition political parties.

He said, One party tags itself as progressives but where are they progressing to. It is only in such progressive party that you find an ex-governor determining who gets what and how. Is that what you mean by progressives?

GDP rebasing: FG ridiculing itself, says APC

April 10, 2014 by Niyi Odebode and Everest Amaefule 4 Comments

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed Nigerias rebased Gross Domestic Product as a mindless public relations gimmick of the Federal Government.

The party, in a statement in Washington DC, United States, by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday said the Federal Government had only succeeded in ridiculing itself.

On its part, the APC noted that the GDP rebasing was done after a World Bank report declared Nigeria as one of the countries harbouring the largest population of poor people in the world.

The opposition party stated, The Federal Government has only succeeded in opening itself to ridicule. This is because if ever there was a clear play at oxymoron, this is it: The largest economy with the largest population of the poor; the largest economy with the largest population of unemployed; the largest economy with the largest population of citizens living in darkness, and the largest economy with the worst infrastructure.

The party said there was too much poverty in the midst of plenty, adding that the economic growth, which the government had been trumpeting, was not a result of any deliberate government policies.

The APC said the Federal Government carried its joke too far by giving the impression that the emergence of the Nigerian economy as the largest in Africa was a function of the economic policies under the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
