PDP is dead in Enugu APC

The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday said the protracted crisis in the Enugu State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party means that the ruling party will not be able to present a candidate in the state in 2015.

The chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said this at a news conference where he rejoiced over what he described as the death of the PDP in the state.

A bitter struggle between two factions, loyal to Governor Sullivan Chime and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, respectively, over the control of the party structure, has grounded the PDP in Enugu State, a few months to the polls.

The Chime camp, which insists that Chief Ikeje Asogwa is the chairman of the party, and the Ekweremadu faction, led by Elder David Aja, who was endorsed by the National Working Committee as acting chairman, have both gone to court to obtain court orders restraining each other from acting as the leadership of the PDP in the state.

Currently, there are strong indications that the Chime faction, which also obtained a court order that stopped the national secretariat of the party from acting on the delegates list presented by the Ekweremadu group, is shopping for an alternative political party platform to realise their aspirations in 2015.

There were unconfirmed reports that the Chime camp met on Tuesday to deliberate over a possible move to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Addressing journalists against the backdrop of the unfolding developments, as well as the controversy over the N11bn loan approved for Chime by the state house of assembly, Nwoye declared that the Enugu State PDP would not recover from the crisis.

The Enugu APC chairman noted that a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who was endorsed by Chime as the PDP consensus candidate, is making moves to join another political party in order to realise his gubernatorial hopes.

It is believed that the Ekweremadu faction, which is currently in charge of the party machinery, was not favorably disposed to Ugwuanyis ambition.

APC is mourning the PDP in Enugu State, PDP as a political party in Enugu State is gone.

Progressives, post-election disaster, insist Democrats need to be more liberal

Key progressive-minded people say they know the reason for the Election Day tally that handed control of the Senate to the Republicans: Democrats didnt go liberal enough, they said.

The reason Democrats lost in 2014 was that there was not a united and bold Democratic economic vision, it was very much an election about nothing, in some cases, small-bore or conservative ideas, said Adam Green, the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, to The Hill.

Mr. Green said Democrats need to swing farther to the left and paint a picture in peoples minds of what a bold, populist Democratic governing agenda looks like, he said, The Hill reported.

He said in an op-ed with his committee co-founder Stephanie Taylor that the party ought to rally behind some select issues: Reining in Wall Street, trimming college costs and expanding Medicare and Social Security, The Hill reported.

And hes not alone in that view.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont whos frequently described himself as a Socialist, said America is begging for a more progressive bend.

The irony of our time is that on virtually all of the important issues, the American people want government to act on their behalf and are progressive, he said, during an interview with Thom Hartmann on The Big Picture radio show.

APC Pledges Transparency, Urges Nigerians To Vote Out PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged that when it seizes power at the federal level next year, it will govern Nigeria with openness and transparency, with every kobo belonging to the public judiciously utilized and meticulouslyaccounted for. All Progressives Congress logo

We will call corruption by its name and fight it with the vehemence it deserves, its National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, pledged during a press briefing on Thursday. We will restore the faith of the public in thenecessity forleaders to live honestly and lead withvision, competence and compassion.

Chief Oyegun stated that the APC willcollaborate and cooperate with the states in the true practice of a federal relationship, running anall-inclusive government and seeking the views of all segments including thepositiveideas of opposition parties in the formulation and execution ofgovernment policies.

Two days ago, you heard PresidentGoodluckJonathan announce himself as the candidate of the PDP and asked Nigerians for another four years as President, he said.

You heard a lot of claims, misrepresentationsandvoodoostatistics, none of which can stand the barest scrutiny. Disregard them! You heard excuses for failure to fix basic infrastructure, arrest unprecedented levels of corruption and halt the march of terrorists daily inching nearer all of us. You heard promises that sound familiar because you have heard them all beforesince his six (6) years as President. Do not give the party that hassavagedNigeria in the last 16 yearsan opportunity to finally finish off our dear nation. The PDP cannot deliver on any of the same promises it has failed tohonourinover a decade and a half in power.

He pointed out that the 2015 election will be decided on the characterand leadership qualitiesof the Nigerian President, stressing that the Commander-in-Chief shouldalso beConsoler-in-Chiefwho brings comfort and succor to Nigerians in time of grief and distress.

You heard two days ago President Jonathan sayingthat good leaders do not walk away from the people, sadly though the statement is true, our President who wants another four years does not show evidence of sympathy for hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens who are nowInternally Displaced Persons(IDP)as a result of the occupation of their land byBokoHaram. He brings no relief or comfort to those living under the reign of terror. About 50 young Nigerian School Children were killed and several others injuredinPotiskumjust a few days beforetheextravaganzashow of his declaration. Yet we do not hear of a Presidential visit to thefamilies of thevictims, a pattern that has become usual. Our President lives in his comfort zone, content toutterwords, and minutes of silencethat have no meaning tothevictims.

President Jonathan, he underlined, has abandonedthe Nigerian people, and the APC chairman called on Nigerians to end their journey with him andelect a leader in 2015 who will be part of their lives and lead with courage and empathy.

To that end, he appealed to all Nigerians toendeavourto collect their Permanent Voters Cards, and usethemto vote out the PDP and vote in the brighter, safer and more prosperous future, which the APC represents.

He also called on the electoral commission, the security agencies and other institutions of government to discharge their responsibilitiescourageously, fairly and firmly, stressing that their prime responsibility is to Nigeria.
