Paterside confident of APC victory in Rivers

December 21, 2014 by Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt 10 Comments

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, on Sunday expressed confidence that the party would win the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Peterside, who spoke during a non-denominational church service at Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt to dedicate his governorship candidacy to God, explained that in spite of the conditions he was facing, God chose him to be the governorship candidate of the APC.

He added that with the level of support the party was getting, it would be difficult for any political party to dislodge the APC from the State Government House.

The APC candidate, who is a member of the House of Representatives, said, That is the God who did not look at all the conditions surrounding me; he decided to set aside protocols. By dedicating our mandate, we are openly admitting that power belongs to Almighty God.

Whatever power we have today, and the power we are going to have in future, belong to God. The other thing why we are here is to hand over the mantle of leadership of Rivers State to God.

When God opens the doors to Government House for you; nobody can shut it and when God closes the door, no man can open it.

The presiding cleric, Apostle Israel Alubah, predicted that the APC would win the 2015 general elections in the state, just as he said that Peterside had been destined to perform higher than the incumbent governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

Dankwambos attack on APC despicable, barbaric -Party

The All Progressives Congress has strongly condemned the acts of intolerance by Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who has been working hard to obliterate the APC presence and also victimize the partys members in the state.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the Governors actions, when he visited Kashere, the hometown of his predecessor, Senator Danjuma Goje, on Thursday were despicable and barbaric, and should be condemned by all right thinking people.

During his visit, Dankwambo personally ordered the removal of all APC billboards and posters in the town, ordered the police and the army to break into Senator Gojes family house, where they broke down doors, teargassed and arrested his relations, including children.

The Governor also ordered the same security forces to break into the family house of Senator Gojes wife, where they similarly destroyed doors and teargassed the occupants, including the 90-year-old father of Senator Gojes wife and the Senators wifes 70-year-old stepmother, while all her sisters and brothers were arrested.

All those arrested, numbering over 50, are now being detained at the police headquarters in the state capital, Gombe, while the Governor has also ordered the arrest of anyone who tries to secure bail for those in detention. In Gombe town, the Governor has gone further to order the police to remove all APC billboards and posters in the town. In other words, as far as the Governor is concerned,it is a criminal offence for anyone to belong to the APC in his state.

This is intolerance of the highest order and negates the tenets of democracy. It is important for the Governors party, the PDP, which has been professing political tolerance, to call the emerging little dictator to order before he destroys the state in a fit of primaeval rage, it said.

The APC described as a cruel irony the fact that the PDP, which has been busy criticizing the APC for fielding an old man as a presidential candidate, is home to a man who was born in post-independent Nigeria but has chosen to behave like a 19th century emperor.

Ekiti APC lawmakers form parallel assembly

Embattled Speaker of the Ekiti State Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin,

The 19 All Progressives Congress members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Friday formed a parallel assembly at a secret location and suspended factional Speaker Dele Olugbemi and the six lawmakers loyal to him.

The APC lawmakers accused the seven Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers of violating Section 96 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.

Those suspended apart from Olugbemi are Mrs. Abeni Olayinka , Adeyinka Adeloye, Alexander Adeojo, Mr. Olowo Ajiboye, Mr. Dele Ajibola and Mrs. Ayo Olajide-Fatunbi

Olugbemi and the six lawmakers had purportedly impeached the state House of Assembly Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, and his deputy, Taiwo Orisalade, on November 20, 2014.

At the plenary held at a secret location in Ado-Ekiti and presided over by Omirin, the APC lawmakers also nullified all legislative actions purportedly carried out by the Olugbemi-led Assembly.

The actions include the receipt and consideration of the 2015 budget; the dissolution and reconstitution of the caretaker committee members for the 16 local government areas and the confirmation of three commissioner-nominees and special advisers.

The plenary concluded that the purported impeachment of Omirin and the election of Olugbemi as House Speaker portrayed the Assembly in bad light, hence the need to suspend the seven lawmakers to save the integrity of the legislative chamber.

The Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe, who moved the motion, claimed that the PDP lawmakers had consistently violated Section 96(1) of 1999 Constitution and House Standing Order in the last one month.

He alleged that the seven lawmakers gave false information to the public by accusing the 19 APC legislators of receiving bribes to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.
