FG cant account for $14.6bn oil money Aregbesola

Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday led a campaign rally in Akure tagged Walk for Change, but it was Governor Rauf Argbesola of Osun State who stole the show when he accused the Goodluck Jonathan-led government of failing to account for $14.6billion oil proceeds between July 2013 and July 2014.

The rally, which was organised by the Buhari-Osinbajo Campaign Organisation, was meant to sensitise Akure residents ahead of next months general elections.

Speaking at the rally, Aregbesola said the Federal Government had displayed incompetence in handling the funds that accrued to the country from oil exploration.

Aregbesola said the excuse of crude oil theft was assailable because President Jonathan as Commander in Chief of the armed forces had the requisite security apparatus to stop the stealing of crude oil.

$40m worth of crude oil is being stolen everyday amounting to $14.6bn since 2013 even when the contract to protect the oil pipelines has been given to ex-militant, Tompolo, he said.

The governor told the APC members who thronged the venue that the fund that had been stolen in the last one year was enough to pay allocation of all the states of the federation for four years.

He said, The amount that has been stolen in the last one year is N2.2 trillion when converted to the Naira, the money is enough to bring development to the states of the federation who are groaning under shortage of allocation to states.

He said the crude oil the federal government claimed was stolen, resulting in the shortage of allocation, was not actually lost but stolen by cronies of the Peoples Democratic Party-led federal government.

Aregbesola said Nigerians must vote for change so that public funds going into private pockets would be distributed to all Nigerians for development purposes.

Osinbajo in his remarks promised that the elderly and the poor would earn incomes when his party ascends the Presidency.

MEND carpets PDP, IYC, restates support for Buhari

January 8, 2015 by Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt 28 Comments

Despite the criticisms trailing its endorsement of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for the February 2015 election, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has insisted that it will support the APC flag bearer.

MEND had on Wednesday declared that it would support Buhari for presidential poll, alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan had not lived up to the expectation of Nigerians, a position that did not go down well with the Peoples Democratic Party and the Ijaw Youth Council.

The PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, queried APCs link with MEND, the IYC, through its Publicity Secretary, Eric Omare, reportedly described MEND as a ghost.

But MEND, in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, on Thursday via e-mail, described Metuhs position on its (MEND) support for Buhari as callous and irresponsible.

The Niger Delta militant group explained that the reaction of the PDP further confirmed its (MEND) views about Jonathans inept government.

MENDs statement read, The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta views the recent question and statement credited to the Peoples Democratic Partys National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, as very callous and irresponsible.

The question: Explain your connections with MEND, further confirms and vindicates our views about Goodluck Jonathan, his inept government and the PDP.

MEND, however, pointed out that its endorsement of Buhari did not mean that it had any link with the APC, adding that contrary to Metuhs view, it (MEND) had never been approached by the party.

It described Buhari as the man that would lead Nigeria out of its state of calamity in the hand of the current leadership.

REACTING to the criticism of its endorsement of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for the presidency in the 2015 elections, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has insisted that Buhari is the best candidate in the race.

MEND, the umbrella body for militancy in the oil-rich Niger-Delta, said it would support the APC candidate.

Candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, an Ijaw man from Bayelsa State, is also from the Niger Delta.

MEND had on Wednesday declared that it would support Buhari for the presidency, alleging that Jonathan had not performed up to the expectations of Nigerians, a position that did not go down well with the PDP and the Ijaw Youth Council.

Why the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, queried APCs link with MEND, the IYC through its Publicity Secretary, Eric Omare, reportedly described MEND as a ghost.

Jonathan, at the commencement of his campaign in Lagos on Thursday, also said he did not expect the groups support because some people procured MEND in 2010 to assassinate me and that the leader of the group, Henry Okah, is in jail in South Africa.

But MEND, in an electronic statement by its famous spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, on Thursday, described Metuhs position on its support for Buhari as callous and irresponsible.

The reaction of the PDP, the Niger Delta militant group explained, further confirmed its views about President Jonathans alleged inept government.

The statement read, The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta views the recent question and statement credited to the Peoples Democratic Party National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, as very callous and irresponsible.
