I am not a foreigner Buharis wife

Hajia Aisha Buhari, wife of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has said that she is not a foreigner as speculated in some quarters.

She spoke through Mrs. Deborah Iliya, a chieftain of APC in Kaduna State who represented her at the public presentation of a book, Wind of Change: 72 Leadership Qualities of Buhari, written by a civil rights activist and Executive Director of Gatekeepers Foundation, Mr. Blessing Agbomhere.

Comments

Abiodun Johnson: I am glad that Aisha Buhari will be Nigerias first lady. She is such a pleasant personality.

Wohenri Ifeayeni: I said it some days ago at a forum that the next thing would be that the Buharis are not Nigerians. Little did I know that some people were already speculating that.

Siim Chuck: Does it matter if she is a Nigerian? Every married woman automatically shares same heritage and identity with her husband. Where she comes from is not the issue. We should focus on Buhari and his credentials and leave his wife out of it. Is he qualified to contest the election or not? This is the relevant question.

Dave Jacob: I guess people are really scared of the Buhari factor in the coming election. That is why they have resorted to all kinds of propaganda about him. That is the reason behind all the talk about age, certificate, postponement and other things. If a PDP governor could say PDP members were the ones organising stone-throwing at Jonathan, it means the party knows its chances.

Uju: So, because Nigerians started questioning the whereabouts of this woman, the All Progressives Congress has now decided to make some noise about her. Who even cares about her origin? How is that important to those of us who want to move forward?

APC flays Fayose over arrests of students leaders

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has berated Governor Ayodele Fayose over the clampdown on students leaders in the state.

According to the opposition party, the National Vice-President, External, National Association of Nigerian Students, Tosin Ogunkuade, was arrested on the order of the Governor for addressing the crowd during the presidential campaign of the party in the state on Saturday.

A statement by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said Ogunkuades offence was that he highlighted the challenges facing Nigerian students, saying the present efforts by the government were not capable of redressing the hardships faced by the students in accessing quality education.

He said to the applause of hundreds of students in attendance that Buhari presented a better hope for students in their educational pursuits, Olatubosun said.

Olatubosun said thugs trailed Ogunkuade to Ikogosi-Ekiti just 24 hours after he spoke, where he and other students were attacked with deep machete cuts.

After these students were attacked at Ikogosi, they ran to Efon-Alaye Police Station to report the matter. To our surprise, the police detained them before they were transferred to Aramoko-Ekiti Police Station.

To our shock again, just this morning, one of their colleagues, Damilare Bewaji, who went to visit them at the Aramoko Police Station, was also arrested and detained by the police on the order of the governor, he added.

Olatunbosun described the arrest as one in the series of other attacks on the APC sympathisers and supporters after the weekend campaign.

However, Fayose, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, announced that four APC thugs had been arrested by the police.

The thugs were arrested with guns, axes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons while trying to escape through Efon-Alaaye at about 3am today.

Change is inevitable in Kaduna, says el-Rufai

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, said on Monday that with God on his side, change was inevitable in the state in February.

El-Rufai stated this in Zaria as he continued his governorship campaign in the state.

The APC candidate was warmly received by thousands of supporters at the Zazzau Emirate.

El-Rufai said the significance of the crowd that ushered him into Zaria, was a proof that change was inevitable, adding that a new dawn beckoned for rapid development and purposeful leadership in the state.

According to El-Rufai, who was accompanied by hundreds of APC leaders, the move for change is also justified by the failed leadership and myriads of challenges in all parts of the state by the People Democratic Party-led government.

He urged his teeming supporters to shun political violence, noting that only God gives power to whom he wants, adding that with God, change was possible in the state.

He said, It is Almighty God that gives power and we are seeking this power from Him and the people of Kaduna State. And so, dont fight anyone, dont abuse anyone, dont blackmail or insult people because of political differences.

Dont abuse peoples parents; instead, respect them because they are also our own parents and we hold them in high esteem.

Dont return violence for violence, dont destroy peoples posters, billboards and properties because they did same.

The former minister insisted that the state was in dire need of purposeful leadership to pilot the affairs of the state.

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has berated Governor Ayodele Fayose for the arrest of students leaders who participated in the campaign rally of the partys presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the state on Saturday.

According to the opposition party, the National Vice-President, External, National Association of Nigerian Students, Tosin Ogunkuade, has been arrested on the order of the governor for addressing the crowd during Buhari campaign in the state on Saturday.

A statement by the APC state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said Ogunkuades offence was that the student leader highlighted the challenges facing the Nigerian students, saying the present government was not capable of addressing the hardships being faced by the students in accessing quality education.

He said to the applause of hundreds of students in attendance that Buhari presented a better hope for students in their educational pursuits, Olatubosun said.

But Fayose said that those arrested were the APC thugs caught with dangerous weapons and recruited by one APC member in the House of Representatives to terrorise supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Erijiyan and Ikogosi-Ekiti.

Olatubosun said thugs trailed Ogunkuade to Ikogosi-Ekiti just 24 hours after he spoke, where he and other students were seriously injured after they were attacked with machet and other dangerous weapons.

Olatunbosun described the arrest as one in the series of other attacks on the APC sympathisers and supporters after Saturdays campaign.

PDPs rally, a celebration of failure Kwara APC

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Monday said the presidential rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ilorin was a celebration of failure.

The states APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, in a statement on Monday, also called on the people of Kwara State and Nigerians to vote out President Goodluck Jonathan on February 14 in order to salvage what he called profusely bleeding Nigeria.

He stated that Jonathan had nothing more to offer in his present capacity.

Buhari said, The presidential rally of the PDP in Ilorin was a celebration of failure.

We had expected the presidential candidate of the PDP, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to tell Kwarans why he deserves re-election and also offer solutions to the challenges before Nigeria but surprisingly, President Jonathan chose to waste the ample opportunity of the rally on political commentary.

Kwarans should note that since President Goodluck Jonathan failed to tell them why he deserves re-election during his scantily-populated presidential rally in Ilorin, Kwarans have the responsibility to massively vote him out of office.

Anyone who carefully listened to Mr. Presidents speech would mistake him for an inexperienced comedian who struggled in futility to impress his audience.

He added, Despite the disbursement of millions in Naira by President Jonathans foot-soldiers and Abuja politicians to induce Kwarans to attend the rally, the scantily populated rally shows that Kwara State is a no-go area for the PDP.

It is no longer news that President Jonathan has yet to fulfil any of the electoral promises he made to Kwarans in 2011. It is also apparent that Mr. President has no achievement whatsoever in Kwara State and we do not expect Mr. President to lay claim to false assertions or take credit for non-existing projects.

However, rather than his political commentary, it would have been of interest to the people of Kwara State if Mr. President had used the avenue of his presidential rally to tell them when he will refund the over N4bn the Kwara State Government used to execute and rehabilitate the Ilesha-Baruba-Chikanda international border road and federal road projects across the state.
